killing me is easy enough as-is, without the need for advanced technology. Literally any cop can bash my head in. Further arms race when nuclear weapons are present is pointless, as any conflict with nuclear power is likely to end in nuclear exchange, and is acceptable only if you are a psycho that thinks megadeaths is just a number upon which strategy can be built.

arpa··on Ask HN: How to make more than $1mn+/yr as a software engineer? (2022 Edition)
Well, the best way is to inherit it.
arpa··on Twitter Home made me miserable
the whole concept of fitting meaningful and thought-out things in 1xx characters is miserable imho.
arpa··on Expose server behind NAT with Tor
hasn't Tor performance improved over the years? i mean, it still doesn't make sense to use torrents over it, but for ssh and maybe some light file transfer it should be enough, no?
arpa··on Ask HN: What do you think of the Wordle guy not monetizing it?
ripped from the void, forced to be employed.
arpa··on Dark Web – Justice League
half-assed reference to https://images.app.goo.gl/VMZSnawQ81nboSLx8, implying unpleasant stimulating effect.

not everyone is crazy for indica, my dude. Some of us would love that good old sativa that doesn't bring out the bees in the teeth.
arpa··on $2,500 Ethernet Switch Effectively Isolates Audiophiles from Cash
Hell, even if the switch was incompliant and noisy af, if tcp/ip packets got through, it would not affect audio quality.
arpa··on Crowded dorms,no flush toilets and food crawling with worms at iPhone plant
That actually might be a good idea.
arpa··on A realization of why email is critical infrastructure for the Internet
Protocols over something, i forget.
arpa··on Anti-mimetic tactics for living a counter-cultural life
Being anti-mimetic and following lists is kind of... mimetic, ain't it?
arpa··on Show HN: I'm building a non-profit search engine
see, that's the problem with engineers today. AltaVista ran on 3x300MHz 64bit processors with 512M of RAM back in 1995. Resources cost peanuts these days. It's just that we're so used to bloat and digital inflation, we can't even start considering unbloated implementations as we perceive them as "not modern". Apparently we are also stuck in the centralized/ownership mentality. If you crowdsource search indexing and processing, it scales alongwith amount of users. Oh and also another bane of the internet is the need to monetize. FFS, if email would be invented today, we probably would have to buy NFT poststamps.
arpa··on Ask HN: Intercepting HTTPS – How can we trust anything?

arpa··on Omicron variant was 73% of U.S. covid cases last week
Well, it does mess with angiotensin receptors, which are all over, controlling the blood flow pretty much everywhere. That's why there's loss of smell, "covid toes", and multiple organs affected in high viral load cases, especially those with high blood flow... Brain is one of these organs, and neurological damage has been documented.

Covid? nein, danke. Vaccines, yes, please.

arpa··on Ask HN: Simple HTTP server for local dev and testing?
Nginx only supports fastCGI.
arpa··on Unix Shell Programming: The Next 50 Years
I am a bash expert as well then, and probably the only person insane enough to have a web framework, complete with http server written in bash.
arpa··on Unix Shell Programming: The Next 50 Years
what makes one a bash expert? genuinely curious if i could call myself one.

it once was like this already. You can spin up your site anytime. You can use tor hidden services to make yourself uncensorable. No need for crypto, pay in knowledge only. And that's why web 1.0 was superior.

edit, ok, tor appeared with web2.0, but still it is more of a web 1.3.

arpa··on BusKill – A USB kill cord for laptops
this is a real problem, yes; i find encrypted volume in swap partition actually provides better plausible deniability. "I was told it should be 2x the size of RAM," - says a guy with 512G of ram and swapoff.
arpa··on BusKill – A USB kill cord for laptops
not an expert, yet you set up an encrypted partition?
arpa··on BusKill – A USB kill cord for laptops
It all boils down to whether your adversary is mossad or not mossad [1].

arpa··on BusKill – A USB kill cord for laptops
this is why you should actually have "signs of life" and something _slightly_ illegal on your plausible deniability partition. Just enough dirt to get you into trouble, but not too much trouble. If you're squeeky clean, you get the rubber hose cryptography treatment.
arpa··on HTTP/3 Is Fast
