arondeparon··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (April 2026)
I am working on several things at the same time right now:

- https://usewarpgate.com: a MCP for MCPs, basically. Aiming to streamline all the pain points that I experienced with MCP in there. Centralised authentication, auditing, tool control, automatic MCPs through OpenAPI specs, accessing private servers, etc.

- https://focusjar.app: a little app I built because my own focus was super wrecked lately. Basically a distraction blocker that is _really_ hard to bypass and makes you pay actual $$$ if you cancel a session early.

- https://mergehelper.com: another little app that I built for myself that brings together all my pull- and merge requests from Github and Gitlab into a single compact menu bar.

- https://sift.works: still very early days, but building a tool that can connect to any database, helps you query it (with AI if so-desired), allows you to create dashboards, and exposes everything through an MCP

Very constructive comment, the “grow up already” really was the cherry on top.

(Yes, this is sarcasm)

arondeparon··on Show HN: BankToBudget – Instantly turn your bank exports into a monthly budget
The backend uses Laravel to parse and clean raw exports before sending structured data to GPT-5 for categorization. Nothing fancy; just a pragmatic way to turn raw bank data into something understandable.
arondeparon··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (October 2025)
I am working on Tailstream (https://tailstream.io/), turning logs into task time visual data streams. Built the web application, web site and a Go CLI agent (open source) and am now slightly pivoting into making it more log-focused.

Working on faceted search for logs and CLI client now and trying to share my progress on X.

arondeparon··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2025)
It's been a while since I've used CloudWatch myself. How would you expect this? IE would you lean more towards having a lambda/firehose that forwards events to to the API (which is [public](https://tailstream.io/docs/api) by the way!) or would you expect some kind of agent / connector to run that automatically pulls the logs from CloudWatch?
arondeparon··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2025)
Working on real-time log visualization platform with wallboard/tv support, initially inspired by Logstalgia:

https://tailstream.io

Launched the initial version a couple of weeks ago and making good progress, trying to share as much of the process as I can on X.

Backend API can be used by any client, but I also built an open source agent in Go that makes setup really easy.

Currently working on a proper log viewer, alerts and visualization improvements.

arondeparon··on Laser for control of mosquitos, weeds and pests
All I could think of when seeing this was the Star Wars Mosquito Defense System parody from 2007.

Nice! Had fun playing with this. Gave me a retro vibe :-)

arondeparon··on Pure CSS – Lace
Wow, this is amazing.

I would love to watch something like this being live-coded. Heck, I assume people would probably even pay for watching it.

arondeparon··on Broken
Perhaps a silly question, but if it is so broken, then why do you keep working there? Is it purely a money-thing? Is there still hope that things can improve?

Not judging, but I am genuinely curious about what drives engineers to stay.

arondeparon··on Introducing Backup and Sync for Google Photos and Google Drive
Does it have the ability to 'unsync' a file? IE: if a large file is on iCloud drive, will I be able to remove it from my local disk?
arondeparon··on Introducing Backup and Sync for Google Photos and Google Drive
Looks interesting! Any pointers on how one could actually get it though? :)

At this moment it seems only available for business users who opt in for the early adopter program.

arondeparon··on Introducing Backup and Sync for Google Photos and Google Drive
What surprises me most is the fact that there seems to be very little interest in meta syncing. I have far more files to store than there is capacity on my SSD, and yet, most of the cloud storage providers seem to offer only full or selective sync capabilities.

What I would like to have is the ability to browse my entire file repository and "pin" certain files to make sure I can have the most critical stuff offline, while other files would be streamed when I need them.

I kind of hoped that SpaceMonkey (now Vivint Smart Drive) would be the answer for me and have one sitting right here. It's a a pretty cool device in theory, but in practice, it is extremely slow, backed by a company that could not care less about the product it has acquired.

Then there is Dropbox Smart Sync. This seems promising, but only is available for business users. I don't have any experiences with it.

Still looking for one single product to this right. Am I the only one frustrated with this?

arondeparon··on Google Cloud Vision API enters Beta
Hi, noticed your comment and just wanted to let you know that, during the alpha testing phase, I actually made this. It's somewhat rough and unreleased now, but I am wondering what you would expect from such a plugin. Could you answer some of these questions?

- Would you primarily use the plugin to auto-tag uploads in the admin area? - Would you have problems with getting your own Google API key (and thus billing via Google), or would you expect the plugin to take care of this as well? - Any other expectations?

As said, what I have now is not really release-worthy, but I can get it to that point in a matter of days.

Thanks.

arondeparon··on Touch Pianist – Tap in Rhythm and Perform Your Favourite Music
Very cool, well done! I just showed it to my wife and 3 year old and both spent 45 minutes playing with it.

Some suggestions:

- the ads on iPad are really obtrusive. Please remove them. I'd gladly pay for the app or the individual packages. ( I deleted the app within 5 minutes)

- a "buy everything" option would be nice

- I think a two handed mode would be really great: perhaps you could consider generating two timelines with separate even handlers so that you can play multiple rhythms at the same time. Would be a nice "advanced mode".

- eventually , an option to include scoring would be nice. You could compare the actual rhythm offset with the"ideal" rhythm to train user rhythm. The current "sandbox" mode really should stay, though, since I really enjoyed watching my kid playing with it :-)

Other than that, great work!

arondeparon··on I've been tracking everything about myself
I think the site is absolutely beautiful.

What I am wondering, though is: how are the vitamin/mineral stats on http://aprilzero.com/sport/ generated? Is there a way to self-measure these stats without blood tests?

arondeparon··on I've been tracking everything about myself
For what it's worth: he's 24 (see http://aprilzero.com/sport/).
arondeparon··on Instagram says it now has the right to sell your photos
What I am trying to figure out is: does this apply to 'private' accounts as well? I see no statement that seems to exempt private accounts from these new policies, but would definitely like to hear a conclusive statement regarding this.
arondeparon··on New PHP Vulnerability:?-s may expose source code for mod_cgi
Dutch ISP KPN actually has a hosting service that runs PHP primarily in CGI mode: https://www.google.com/#hl=en&output=search&sclient=... yields a massive amount of vulnerable sites.
arondeparon··on Softlaunch of buddhalists, not just another todo list app.
Apart from having a name and style that tries to invoke 'zenlike' feelings, what does the app actually do that makes it stand out? There are 1000+1 todo apps, many of which focussing on the 'less is more' principle. I don't see how this app is different, apart from charging a really soothing $10 per month....
arondeparon··on Notice: Experimenting with HN
I think using green usernames for 'noobstories' is wrong. Green is usually linked to positive behaviour, earned reputation/karma or a special (empowered) user status; not for indicating that a user is new.

Wether this is an april fools joke or not: I think it's a smart move either way. A post like this is ought to get some attention :)
arondeparon··on Should Tumblr care? David Karp tells users who complain to "go away"
I don't think anyone is saying David chuckles in the sight of recent outages. The email which was sent does not seem to be a personal attack on David's character and - apart from some random comments - nobody seems to speak bad of David himself.

I'm a Tumblr user and will keep using it for the very reason that the service is simply growing too fast for them to keep up at the moment, but in the end I believe it will stabilize.

That being said, a response like that is just utter crap. (Sidenote: so far, I have seen a copy/paste of the entire message (?) that was supposably sent to Tumblr, but only excerpts of the reply that was received)

Replying in a normal manner to someone that sends a normal e-mail is not something that is left to be done for PR teams and customer service departments.

It really is not that hard. We all say stuff that comes out wrong and there is no need to blow it out of proportion. Seeing that is has already done that, it would probably be a good display of character to set things straight, even if there seems to be nothing to gain from it.

As far as the article is concerned: I believe it could have been written a lot better. Catchphrases like "Could David Karp be the downfall of Tumblr?" are inappropriate and belong in gossip-magazines. The number of claims and experiences on which this article is based (or at least, references) is too low to make it believable and the tone of the article ("Tumblr has been ignoring complaints routinely for the past year whilst Karp apparently indulges in the money he gains from funding") does not really stand out as objective to me.

arondeparon··on Google Debuts Fashion Shopping Site (Boutiques.com)
What amazes me the most is the fact that Google decided to brand this as a product of it's own. Nothing on the website seems to indicate this is a Google product.

This seems to be quite a step utilizing the aquisition of Like.com (and Riya with it). Very interested in seeing how this develops and why Google is taking this approach.
