arkitaip··on Product placements may soon be added to classic films
Oh man, The Critic was amazing!
arkitaip··on Show HN: Keptab – Powerful Tabs Manager
lazy link: http://keptab.com/

The mobile design (Firefox Android) needs some margins/paddings.

arkitaip··on Product placements may soon be added to classic films
Can't wait for Rosebud to be the latest Ford EV Truck.
arkitaip··on One week of Libera Chat
Is there any policy in place that prevents another freenode incident from happening again? i.e. IPs being sold off in a hostile takeover?
arkitaip··on Flat rates sell better than pay-per-use
Great article and expertly written. I'm thinking if you do offer per usage pricing and flat pricing, make sure customers automatically switch over to the cheapest so they don't have to feel like they got cheated on a technicality. I'm sure it also builds you brand's trustworthiness when customers realize you have their backs, that you favor long term relationships over short-term profits.
arkitaip··on Ask HN: Why HN discussions are almost always on a tangent?
This has always been an issue. The very design with nested threads practically encourages tangents. You also have a community of opinionated people who consider HN to be their main outlet for intellectual discussions.
arkitaip··on Freenode ops take control of 700 channels
It's sad that he destroyed the very thing he cherished above everything else. That is, if he is telling the truth.
arkitaip··on Online video platform Vimeo plunges on Nasdaq debut following spin-off
Or don't because Vimeo has little growth potential and a product that has gone stale. Also, imagine just how trivial it would be for YT to copy paste Vimeo's offering (long videos, no ads, etc) rn. My guess is that Vimeo is such a non-entity to YT that they haven't even bothered gobbling up the tiny niche.
arkitaip··on Insurance firm LEMONADE gets backlash for suggesting visual AI can detect fraud
I bet the AI part is actually marketing bullshit that is now backfiring, that the real insurance work will be done by actual human beings and not rely on something as unreliable as detecting fraud by interpreting body language. It's just that AI woo is Lemonade's entire competitive advantage so they have no choice but stick with the marketing bullshit.
arkitaip··on Ask HN: Would you introduce someone to programing
Sure, I would introduce people to coding in some form. Probably start with basic HTML, then CSS and finally JavaScript. Anyone who understands the basics of web dev can easily go on to creating mobile apps, doing back-end, etc.
arkitaip··on Stripe Payment Links
I like this offering by Stripe but it won't attract any Shopify customers except the tiniest ones who are basically one product shops. Even then you want lots of features that Stripe Payment Links simply doesn't offer.

Now, if Stripe could offer their own hosted ecom solution... Hey, Stripe, get on this, it makes all the sense.

arkitaip··on Stripe Payment Links
This IS terrific news if you are using Stripe and want to stick with them as your one payment solution.
arkitaip··on The Study Web: Gen Z’s Ambitious Pursuit of Straight A’s
So many of these channels are nothing more than distraction from anxiety. Study web seems like a subset of the more general inspiration/self-help movement that sells the idea of change and progress instead of you doing the actual, often boring, work.
arkitaip··on Complexities of e-mail validation logic
It's cute but doomed to fail because it goes against everything most people understand about email addresses.
arkitaip··on Complexities of e-mail validation logic
Someone found a sleeper regexp on Stack Overflow...
arkitaip··on Complexities of e-mail validation logic
Most of these are just overcomplicating validation. What really matters is account verification, i.e. sending an email to the specified email address in order to verify its authenticity before sending any kind of email (transactional, marketing) to the account.

At this point, not doing email verification should be considered a dark pattern because it causes so much trouble when people's email addresses are used without their permission.

arkitaip··on Show HN: FuckYourUsers, the easiest way to make using your site a living hell
Joke is on you because I can make my sites a living hell by following modern web dev practices.
arkitaip··on Fisker Set to Make First All-Electric Papal Transport
Title really should specify (PDF).
arkitaip··on Show HN: Unattach – free up your Google storage by removing Gmail attachments
I really cleaned out Gmail a couple of months ago and all I had to do was to filter for attachments over a specific size. How much different is your app?
arkitaip··on Show HN: Find Meme Coins Going Through a Price Surge (Rails and React)
How could there be an end when new coins pop up daily?
arkitaip··on Aukey kicked off Amazon following fake reviews allegations
Yup, the Swedish ecom market is too sophisticated for there to be any low hanging fruit for Amazon to pick. There are actors like Apotea.se (pharmacy) that have very low prices with next day delivery for free. And their UI is second to none.
arkitaip··on Aukey kicked off Amazon following fake reviews allegations
I hate the keyword stuffing but also discovered that when you are shopping and only have a faint understanding of what keywords to search for, the stuffing often helps...
arkitaip··on Aukey kicked off Amazon following fake reviews allegations
Of course the company knew about the fraud. The fact they outsourced the actual work to a third party just means they can claim plausible deniability.
arkitaip··on Aukey kicked off Amazon following fake reviews allegations
You should see the state of Amazon.se. It launched earlier this year in absolute shambles: product descriptions were whacked; many listed products couldn't even be purchased; the product reviews were imported from other Amazon sites which made them look suspicious; the pricing wasn't even competitive when factoring in shipping to Sweden, etc, etc. They have made some improvements but still haven't taken off and it's crazy they don't value quality that much on a new market. The bargain bin junk store feel is all over the place.
arkitaip··on Ask HN: Best top level domains for a personal blog?
1. .com if you can get it.

2. Every other TLD.

arkitaip··on Show HN: I hate adding updating to my apps, so I created Pakkly
The mobile design: layout and margins look out of place on Firefox Android. The lists with red crosses look disjointed.

Header: why do the Sign In and Get Started links point to the same URL? Do you need a Home link for what's essentially a single page site?

The Steps section: could probably be better presented by a video above fold in the future to take far less space.

The Newsletter section: the white background and wide margins makes the section seem like it belongs to the previous section (Step 3).

I think you could use a WP performance/caching plugin to easily improve site performance. My favorite combo right now is Breeze and Cloudflare.

arkitaip··on Show HN: Good Plates – A minimalist recipe website
Some of these photos make the dishes look really unappetizing. Other than that, I like how every page is visible in just one viewpoint.
arkitaip··on Ask HN: What are these strange files that appeared on a WordPress website?
Install Wordfence and see what it discovers.
arkitaip··on How to get rich without being lucky (2019)
That's naval's entire thing. Just trite thinking packaged to inflate his own ego as a "thought leader".
arkitaip··on Unexpected 'Black Swan' defect discovered in soft matter for first time
You've just summarized the beauty that is n-gate.
