arcza··on TSA lines are so out of control that travelers are hiring line-sitters
Doesn't this guy's server just DDoS some dude's blog with your own browser? Didn't click.
arcza··on I built a free tool to beat ATS after getting auto-rejected 48 times
The testimonials look so fake and remove all credibility in what may be an interesting product.

Nice you want to level the playing field for candidates, but first impressions != authentic

Good spot lol
arcza··on Reddit Ads Is a Scam
Your post was very unconvincing to read and riddled with errors. Rage bait to prop up the Userpath thingy?
arcza··on Show HN: Legal Eyes – Turn casual text into legalese with one click
One further point. In the UK - there's an active campaign to use clear plain English in contracts. I don't think making things harder to understand is a good idea, but not saying you're doing this either.
arcza··on Show HN: Legal Eyes – Turn casual text into legalese with one click
Hi. Why is a UK website (assuming based on the domain) pricing in USD for a UK viewer? Thanks.
arcza··on CGNAT frustrates all IP address-based technologies (2019)
"CGNAT providers" is like saying "DHCP providers" or "PPPoE providers". I've never heard of a "WSP". What if I send an email on port 25 (not web) via my "WSP"? LOL.
arcza··on CGNAT frustrates all IP address-based technologies (2019)
This sounds like incompetence. You can procure IPv4 addresses in days as a monthly rental (go speak to Cogent etc), or even buy outright with little delay. Going rate is currently $34/address at the /24 level and cheaper for larger blocks.
arcza··on Filtering spam with GPT4o-mini for $0.00008 per email
Highlighting some of the cool work RSpamD has done to integrate OpenAI's API into spam filtering. Makes a lot of the big guys look less relevant esp. at the price points being charged for spam filtering nowadays, typically paid handsomely by large enterprises with on-prem mail.

Be careful with the above. I thought it was unusual when I landed here via DuckDuckGo. This is clearly an attempt at something bad. I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this?
arcza··on TfL Cyber Security Incident
> We are currently dealing with an ongoing cyber security incident. At present, there is no evidence that any customer data has been compromised and there has been no impact on TfL services.

> The security of our systems and customer data is very important to us, and we have taken immediate action to prevent any further access to our systems.

I guess time will tell what this was.

arcza··on I'm blocking connections from AWS to my on-prem services
Due to firewall logs showing DNS amplification attack attempts
arcza··on I'm blocking connections from AWS to my on-prem services
The author has said for a long time they have had a "no crawl" policy anyways, I don't think the author cares and with the enshittification of Google they are probably in the right anyways.
arcza··on I'm blocking connections from AWS to my on-prem services
Meaningless low-value and non-human traffic wasting resources and/or training models. Their blog is for real humans per the author's writing, which is a valid stance to take.
arcza··on I'm blocking connections from AWS to my on-prem services
I've been blocking Hetzner, Digital Ocean, Linode, OVH and Contabo for a while. You can do this with pfBlocker NG by blocking ASNs, or UFW rules (https://blog.abctaylor.com/ufw-and-firewalld-rules-to-block-...)
arcza··on [dead]
What is also suspicious is 5/8ths of the user's past submissions (all on his own blog) have been deleted. Is this some sort of AI-generated traffic farming / engagement gimmick? I don't randomly delete my past submissions to HN from my WordPress.
arcza··on [dead]
Today we have an actual stand up comedian trolling HN.
arcza··on Continuously shorting IT stocks overnight and buying back at market open
Correct but respectfully I think you didn't read the post fully. I mentioned within I'd hedge by buying an equal dollar amount of NDX futures which makes it a bit more beta neutral. If those stocks rise, so does the NDX, and my losses on the shorts are offset. But the whole thing won't work anyways due to high trading costs. Unless somehow you can make markets very well at huge scale.
arcza··on Continuously shorting IT stocks overnight and buying back at market open
Yeah you're right. Although, how bad would "S3 is deleted worldwide" be? Or "RDS is down for the foreseeable future"? So IDK... The other problem with them is how big they are, so you can't take proportional weights in them, which messes with risk a bit. I think this is a crap strategy but an interesting idea. As others said, the sentiment scanning probably has a better shot, and you pay the huge spread trading outside RTH.
arcza··on Continuously shorting IT stocks overnight and buying back at market open
Yep. As a retail guy though, I get no rebate however on that cash. I just pay the 25bps pa AFAICT.
arcza··on Continuously shorting IT stocks overnight and buying back at market open
I rushed my post and skipped QA, went straight to production. (fixed, thanks)
arcza··on Ask HN: How to handle user file uploads?
Kinda incredible how nearly every comment here mentions S3. Cloud storage is not the only backend in existence :)
arcza··on Thoughts on low latency trading if exchanges went full cloud
> Instead of a guy on the floor taking dollars from you, you have a bot taking pennies.

^ excellent way to put it

arcza··on Thoughts on low latency trading if exchanges went full cloud
Thank you. I'm only happy to hear this was helpful. I'd also love comments from any HDL quants about how portable FPGA code would be to virtualized environments and what other languages might stand out particularly well for a VM stack.

arcza··on $8,99 per Direct Message – my new project
I have another idea. A proof of work mechanism whereby to send the DM you need to run some expensive WebGL task for ten minutes. Removes the payment barrier and also spam.
