aranw··on Remove TypeScript
I just can’t imagine an organisation taking a project that has DHH part of it seriously. You’d never know whether something you’ve vested engineering time into might just all of sudden just do a huge 180 and decide the tool your using should completely change
aranw··on Remove TypeScript
Talk about move fast and break things!
aranw··on Beaver Notes: A Privacy-Focused Open-Source Note-Taking App
Your GitHub link in the footer doesn't appear to be linking to anything
aranw··on Bun v0.7.0
Is it only me that finds it strange that engineers working in a particular language will get another language to solve issues with said language? e.g. Javascript using C, C++, Zig, Rust, etc. Ruby and Python is also similar situation there are tools, libraries and such built in other languages
aranw··on Lit: Simple, fast web components
Lit looks really cool it would be great to see some more examples and starter kits. Perhaps an example of how to build web components for use with other projects that are not Javascript based as well. Bundle up components into individual deployable files for example
aranw··on Lit: Simple, fast web components
v3 appears to be pre-release version? Surely that makes sense to not default to pre-release code for the docs?
aranw··on Prepare for the multi-cloud with Cilium on Kubernetes [video]
I haven't actually tried using Cilium myself but this video and the website has really got me interested in trying it out
aranw··on Bevy 0.11: ECS-driven game engine built in Rust
What are your favourite games currently published that are built using Bevy? Any available on Steam?
aranw··on Alphabet selling Google Domains assets to Squarespace
I absolutely hate AWS with a passion but I might actually have to transfer my domains to them now
aranw··on Alphabet selling Google Domains assets to Squarespace
Does anyone know why they wouldn't just merge this into the GCP offering? It makes perfect sense for domains.google to be a GCP product
aranw··on OpenAPI v4 (aka Moonwalk) Proposal
My biggest pain point is the fact that OpenAPI uses YAML. They always demo it with the simple short examples but soon as you go above a handful of endpoints the YAML will be just horrible to maintain. This is not my only pain point with OpenAPI but it's definitely my biggest. I'd rather use something else and then generate out OpenAPI specs
aranw··on Implementing a distributed key-value store on top of implementing Raft in Go
I often find when you are given questions like that no matter how you probe you get a really defensive interviewer who doesn’t want to give away the answer they are expecting. I’ve been in very similar situations with vague questions and I’ve tried to probe for more details and just been met with defensiveness with an attitude that says they expect me to know exactly what they mean
aranw··on Incident with Issues and Pull Requests
Lots of copilot generated code failing
aranw··on Tell HN: Unpaid home assignments are not ok
I've had this before from a big company in the Go space. They constantly still sent me job ads and requested for me to interview and repeatably ghosted me. Wasn't until I direct messaged the CTO on a public Slack community to find out that I had not passed and that was why they wouldn't consider me and why I had been repeatably ghosted. No feedback as to why I failed the test or anything
aranw··on Passage: A fork of password-store that uses age instead of GnuPG
Why stick with GnuPG?

I'm also interested in trying to understand why use age instead of GnuPG?

aranw··on Docker Desktop no longer free for large companies
Does this work with Docker compose files? For local development at the moment I mostly use docker-compose and for production using AWS Fargate so the kubernetes functionality is a bit wasted on me really
aranw··on SARS-CoV-2 Gamma variant infected 16 fully Pfizer vaccinated Guiana gold miners
> imperfect vaccines can cause selective pressure which enhances the fitness of highly virulent pathogens

I've wondered this ever since the UK changed it's approach and now that we've got to a state where there is pretty much no restrictions. I think scientists around the world also have this concern with the UK's approach

aranw··on Tesla’s new patent involves using table salt to mine lithium
> Hydrogen fuel cells are a fine technology, but it has no momentum. It has a chance to win long-distance trucking, but I doubt it will be the future of personal transportation.

Yeah I'm betting on anything bigger than van will become hydrogen, anything that needs long distance or perhaps remote environments will be hydrogen based. Smaller city based vehicles likely to be battery based

aranw··on Tesla’s new patent involves using table salt to mine lithium
Right now a Vauxhall Corsa starts at £17k the exact same car but powered by batteries costs £26k. So will the batteries become cheap enough that the battery powered cars match the same as combustion engine car?
aranw··on Tesla’s new patent involves using table salt to mine lithium
I'm betting for anything bigger than a family vehicle to end up being hydrogen just cause the recharge times, weight restrictions, and other factors such as costs
aranw··on Tesla’s new patent involves using table salt to mine lithium
I'm still sceptical of batteries being the future of transportation. I believe Hydrogen is a much safer bet. It seems like battery production and materials is not getting much cheaper and only getting more expensive. The equivalent combustion engine cars versus a battery powered car is a lot cheaper
aranw··on Tesla’s new patent involves using table salt to mine lithium
Is it just me or is everything that Tesla, SpaceX, <name of musk business>... is doing something that is "game changing" feel like everyone massively over hypes what there doing
aranw··on Substack's UI and 1Password temporarily cost me $2k
This is why I don't have my credit cards stored for "easy" input and submission and instead always enter them manually

I really wish Dashlane would let me disable the reminded to save my credit card details as this is a feature I do not care for

aranw··on The Two Classes of Software Engineer
I tend to understand a lot of this stuff but the issue I struggle with the most is remembering it all off the top of my head which is what usually is my biggest weakness when entering technical interviews and when I start getting asked questions about this stuff. I hate studying before such events to make it look like I do remember or know this stuff I'd rather be up front and honest and say I got a high level overview of this or I haven't studied that in awhile but I know X, Y and Z about it. I really hate this idea that everyone should just know all this stuff and study on it all the time
aranw··on ESP32-C3 WiFi and BLE RISC-V processor is pin-to-pin compatible with ESP8266
I was wondering with these RISC-V processors is a minimum set of features required for Go code to work with them? Is there an easy way to determine if a RISC-V processor will run Go code?
aranw··on A new and improved Twitter API
I got banned cause they didn't agree with what I wanted to go and I couldn't email/message/discuss with anyone why my use was not approved and allowed. I couldn't resubmit with changes to the plan and I had a proper business plan and it all went in the bin as I couldn't get API access. Shouldn't of created it all on my personal account I guess but it was an important lesson on not relying on external services
aranw··on A new and improved Twitter API
I'd care more if I could actually appeal my dev account being perma banned for real reason other than I failed to clearly express what I wanted to do with a app

aranw··on Show HN: Givemeguid.com – CLI/curl friendly GUIDs
Nice! I think this will still have a use and is a nice addition to add another alternative way to generate uuids

I use the following alias to generate uuids

   function uuid() { uuidgen | tr "[:upper:]" "[:lower:]" | tr -d "\n\r" }
I then pair it with pbcopy on the mac

   uuidgen | pbcopy
aranw··on Show HN: Givemeguid.com – CLI/curl friendly GUIDs
