I.e. https://food.ec.europa.eu/food-safety/eu-agri-food-fraud-net... found widespread fraud and put measures in place to prevent it, but it continues to be challenging.
Having lots of kids with different women is very common, especially in the lower classes, and not much of an achievement.
My dad has lots of half-siblings from three different mothers in total, and accordingly grew up without a father, and I very much did not want that for my own kids. Not even if it carried wealth and fame. I think you'll find if you ever have your own kids, two present parents cannot be wholly replaced with money.
A third approach is using a word that means something and thus is not unique at all.
Unique strings for usernames means lots of accurate hits. If you google mine, there will be lots of hits but none are me.
Are there any other countries that enforce a daily time limit on an activity, whether for children or adults?
It seems either an activity (like smoking) is typically banned entirely or allowed; having it be partially allowed like this is difficult to enforce and consequently invites weird and invasive measures like these.
I can't help but feel that this belief is understandably motivated by a desire to see oneself as belonging to the bottom 80%, rather than belong to the bottom 20%, or worse.
> This is why my kid isn't going to watch YouTube. If and when we decide to show her any children's show, it'll be from a manually curated set of videos downloaded and streamed from a NAS.
Until what age? I doubt this resolve will last until 18, particularly when they become old enough to know what their friends are watching. The vast majority of video content isn't legally downloadable, and even illegal downloading is a bit difficult because children's shows aren't as widely shared as content aimed at adults. (Even really popular shows like Paw Patrol have surprisingly limited availability.)
If you want to limit ad exposure, using subscription services like Netflix is more practical, as does purchasing shows on a per show basis on YouTube (which granted gets very expensive). Public broadcasting is also typically ad free; in the UK we have iplayer which has ad-free children's programming available for streaming.
I too have nostalgia for the old days of the internet where there were lots of niche sites about specialist interests and things were easier to find, but I don't think the internet was ever really an idyllic garden of rational discourse. It was from nearly the beginning a manifestation of humanity's id.
I happen to be sympathetic with a lot of their viewpoints, but it is in fact very axe-grindy. Reason magazine comes off as a lot more reasonable to me than Quillette, despite not being a libertarian, because it's less reactionary.
There is also some question whether some things we don't consider intersex are actually a form of intersex, such as homosexuality. A lot points to homosexuality being innate, not learned, and I personally think this points to it being a form of intersex that affects the brain, not the genitals.
Some disorders can cause both. For example, females with Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) can have ambiguous genitals and also are more likely to be lesbian.
Just because someone else could have stopped it, doesn't mean he didn't stop it. That's... just a fact...
This was a hypothesis about his removal when he was initially was removed, and has since been refuted by multiple sources.
You can see that there's a set of traits that are common among all animals, a smaller set common among mammals, an even small set common amongst primates, etc. And then each species has its own set of unique trait.
Rodents aren't like humans and humans aren't like rodents, rodents and human share traits that are likely common among many mammals.
120 F isn't that hot, it only hurts after a while, and the mouse can take its tail out at any time. That's how they were able to detect the effect; the mice that saw the other mice do the test took their tails out faster because they knew it'd eventually hurt based on the prior mouse's reaction.
For instance, I learned that in every society where it was tested, men are more violent than women. But interestingly, the society itself was important as well; for instance, American society is overall more violent than Icelandic culture, and accordingly American women commit more violent crimes than Icelandic men. So there are differences in between the sexes, but the culture is a very important input if we look at how extreme the trait is.
For instance, just see the period panties thread. Men don't have the perspective necessary to even comprehend the idea of period panties, let alone build one.
Not everything in tech is that obvious, of course. But it's worth thinking about non-obvious ways in which it might.
I think what these women are saying is, "I personally find wearing a pad disgusting" and not "Women who wear pads are disgusting." I definitely would call pads gross or disgusting, and when I say that, I mean that is my experience with wearing them in comparison to tampons.
With tampons, the blood doesn't make it to the vulva, in general. So the vulva stays a lot cleaner. If you wear pads, the blood flows out, so it dies and cakes on your pubic hair, labia, and anus. In addition, you can feel the blood once it exits, so there's a continual "gooey" feel, squelching when you sit down, etc. I honestly don't know why women who wear pads prefer it.
To be clear, I don't have any hygienic concerns with pads, nor with women who wear them. It's just that both the mess and the felling caused from wearing pads vs tampons I personally find gross.
1. "Expensive underwear are bad because I gain sexual gratification from new underwear and money spent on expensive period underpants take money away from that." Could you be more self-involved? How about respecting women to know what products they want, considering they are the one actually having periods? But no, it's all about keeping your dick hard. Okay.
2. Yes. Women who use tampons carry tampons around with them. However, the way you know when your period starts is when you find blood in your panties. At which point there is already blood in your panties. You shouldn't put a tampon in prior to your period arriving as that is a) extremely uncomfortable and b) risks TSS, but wearing special underwear as a precaution seems reasonable. Also, when the tampon is full, it will leak. This can be pre-empted, but not 100% of the time, as flow varies. This is why many women wear panty liners in conjunction with tampon use. And yes, it is fucking annoying to make sure you always have a tampon with you 100% of the time, and isn't 100% successful, thanks for your concern.
3. Again, your ignorance astounds me here. For one, spotting is common with continual use of birth control. So actually these panties would be pretty helpful with that as spotting is completely unpredictable, unlike actual periods. Secondly, did you seriously just suggest that every woman who menstruates go on continual hormonal birth control as an alternative to expensive panties? You do realize that BC a)has side effects and b) costs money?
4. No, that's not the real goal. They're making a product. For people to buy. Which should be obvious. The charitable link-in is a common marketing technique.
It's not really about gender, but rather a confrontational style of communication that can sometimes be not very productive.
I have a tendency towards this style of communication myself, but I've worked towards communicating in a more effective way and it's improved my life (and the lives of the people I interact with).
If you don't believe it, just see how my comment history has changed over the years... haha.
If I expand an article no one seems to notice.
There's no evidence that women are less sexist than men. In fact, all the evidences is that women and men discriminate equally against women:
http://ideas.time.com/2012/10/04/womens-inhumanity-to-women/
Of course, this does show the flaw of trying to judge the gender of a person by how they present themselves online; while on average men and women may show small differences in communication, there are of course many women that communicate in a "men's" manner and v.v.
