aquadoctorbob··on PHP to deprecate MySQL extension
Trick question; you've specified the `ipsum` column twice anyway. ;)

aquadoctorbob··on What’s Next for Delicious?
My favorite version comes from Douglas Adams, though he probably didn't coin the original:

> Nothing travels faster than the speed of light with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws. The Hingefreel people of Arkintoofle Minor did try to build spaceships that were powered by bad news but they didn't work particularly well and were so extremely unwelcome whenever they arrived anywhere that there wasn't really any point in being there.

Is it down? I tried Google, Reddit, and Twitter and got an empty palette back.
aquadoctorbob··on Hotmail development team on Reddit
Really? I thought that one was the most human of their responses because it is so obviously tongue-in-cheek.
aquadoctorbob··on Ask HN: Did anyone else get a Google Chrome Laptop yet?
I got a knock on my door a few minutes after reading this post. Signed up via the QR code during the presentation.

Also, it seems to be working with my Apps account. Yesssss.

Terrible redaction job by the editor, too... that blur might as well not be there.

LHC@home seems to be the closest thing, but Wikipedia notes:

> BOINC users who are considering joining this project should know that it only occasionally has work; the project is used for design and repair considerations related to the LHC. There are currently no plans to use the project to do computation on the data that will be collected by the LHC.

You're missing a U at the beginning of the string.
aquadoctorbob··on What's special about this number? (0-9999)
Well, in writing -- Internet discourse in particular -- multiple exclamation marks are occasionally (ab)used to indicate absurd levels of emotional intensity on the part of the speaker. The factorial operation is also denoted by an exclamation mark; to someone unfamiliar with that fact, or someone capable of intentionally conflating the two usages, it appears that the statement "9945 = 17!!!!" represents someone excitedly asserting a falsehood (i.e. "9945 = 17") or possibly suggesting that shouting a number somehow increases its value.

Each line on the linked article is a more-or-less stoic mathematical fact, and the humor comes from the subversion of this expectation when the entry for 9945 is misinterpreted as I described.

Okay, I've had my surreal moment for the day. I was not expecting to see a thread I made four years ago when I clicked that link.
aquadoctorbob··on Ask HN: git-svn resources?
I think you've misinterpreted the OP or the purpose of svn-git -- that programming language metaphor doesn't work at all.

Rather, everybody at his job uses Notepad and he'd like to use vim. It improves his performance and affects nobody else.

Bug report: when reading a website, I typically click the middle mouse button once in some whitespace, then gesture around to scroll slowly. The polling mechanism used here seems to dismiss the autoscroller. Firefox 3.6 / Windows XP.
aquadoctorbob··on My English sucks. How much does it devalue my message?
I'm a native speaker of American English. It was certainly readable, but some of the sentence constructions were stilted enough to distract me. Here's my extremely pedantic edit, which also changes the tone to be more conversational:

aquadoctorbob··on Motorola Droid's next update to be Android 2.1, includes multitouch browser
You ought to give CyanogenMod a try; it's breathed new life into my G1. I installed it yesterday after my home screen's several-second rendering time pushed me over the tipping point.

It's easier to install than it seems, noticeably faster/smoother, and the Browser and Gallery apps both support multitouch.
