apunic··on Get that job at Facebook (2012)
Is there anything like HN for tech entrepreneurs only, maybe a subreddit somewhere? I see here regularly posts regarding jobs/interviews/etc. which are all great ressources but since they got so many upvotes -- this one is on #1 right now -- I wonder sometimes how many on HN are full-time (tech) entrepreneurs and how many are employed/freelance coders.

Just great
apunic··on Here is today
I always wonder how scientists do know that something was 25, 540 million or 2.560 billion years ago.
apunic··on Ask HN: What web development language do you prefer?
Node + Express
apunic··on Ask HN: Best alternative to Heroku?
If on Node Nodejitsu is highly recommended.
apunic··on Facebook Home And The Promise Of Android
Me neither. But look at the mainstream, the youth. Mobile, FB and picture sharing is the new mass media.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is FB's first step into building an own mobile OS (or own distribution) since the main task of a mobile device is still communication with close contacts -- and that's all Facebook is about.

apunic··on Facebook Home And The Promise Of Android
Disregarding if Facebook Home is a good: Android is rapidly evolving into directions no one would have imagined 12 months ago.

Nobody has to ask Google for permission what they are gonna do with Android -- no one had to ask what they are doing with the web, either.

apunic··on Web Framework Benchmarks Round 2
Why are there no DB tests with Go?
apunic··on Web Framework Benchmarks Round 2
Sequelize (used for the node-mysql tests) is the slowest ORM out for Node, others are much faster (i.e. the node-mysql module).

And I would love to see node-mongodb tests with the native Mongo driver and not with Mongoose (which is slower).

apunic··on We are Switching to Dart
I like your post since it's a refreshing take on today's language and framework decisions. Usually people go for Coffee, Node, Go, Clojure or ClojureScript nowadays (I mixed FE and BE tech deliberately).

What I am interested in: Why did you go for Dart? What was the trigger? When I look at Google Trends Dart seems to have a very hard time compared to other current technologies regarding search popularity.

And what's your backend based on? Could I go for Dart with Node?

apunic··on JavaScript is Not Web Assembly
> JavaScript is not the Assembly of the Web. It’s the C of the web. The to-JS languages are lining up to become the C++ of the web.

Point well made.

When I checked hstore's functionality the last time (~6 months ago) it was rather limited compared to Mongo's full-blown API. Any new observations?
apunic··on Rust 0.6 RC is out
Just googled for some benchmarks but wasn't successful. Anyone has some benchmarks on Rust 0.6 or older versions?

apunic··on My Interview Questions for Potential Employers
"Do you have any questions for me?" is usually asked by the potential employer in order to politely signal the end the interview and not because he's interested in your questions.

apunic··on Happily upgrading Ruby on Rails at production scale
"8000 requests per minute" sounds quite a lot for a RoR system.

Would you mind to elaborate on

- how many of those requests are responded from cache

- the underlaying deployment architecture (type & number of servers and/or VMs)

- and you average server response time (uncached)

Thanks

EDIT: Why the downvote?

apunic··on Show HN: Pantastic
Amazing: a landing page full of information but not one single picture of the final product.
apunic··on The Matrix in JavaScript in less than 600 bytes
When my eyes follow the raindrops it's impossible to see the Chinese characters. I have really to force myself to stare at one spot to see the characters. Interesting phenomena.
apunic··on Sails.js: Realtime MVC framework for Node.js
Totally agree with you.
apunic··on Sails.js: Realtime MVC framework for Node.js
The whole point of Node/npm/Express (as a popular module) is its modularity. Node is not just about JS on the server, it reflects a paradigm shift -- a movement away from too much abstraction and magic back to lean and simple systems. And it's unbelievable fast.

Sorry to say but such frameworks and ideas are from the last decade (Rails was the main reason why I switched to Node).

Anyone did it in JS?
apunic··on Show HN: Delver, a natural language interface to your app
As useful this by the new Facebook Graph Search inspired service my sound, I doubt the usefulness. I just prefer to have a expressive non-natural language to specify my needs (especially when retrieving data). This could be useful for the mainstream querying drunk female friends nearby but again this is solved by FB already.

However, I would love to have seen some demo.

apunic··on Building something cool on your own? I want to interview you
Very nice brand/domain and style. I also like the idea and I thought about doing this many times but I didn't because there was just too much similar stuff on the net.

However, the brand would suit well nightly hackathons.
