aprdm··on Canada's population is booming – access to family doctors hasn't kept pace
Optometrist is a grey area as it isn't really covered by MSP, like dental. Unless it is a medical emergency. So your mother told you the right thing, because it's true
aprdm··on Canada's population is booming – access to family doctors hasn't kept pace
It's a very diverse place - you have people from basically everywhere.
aprdm··on Canada's population is booming – access to family doctors hasn't kept pace
People live in Texas and it /actually/ took out their power grid..

You might want to take off your foil hat. I am also very curious on you breaking down your claims as they don't make any sense on money spent and what happened. Regardless it seems like you had a bad experience (like others do - all around the world in every medical system) and that sucks. We can definitely do better

Why do you lie and spread fud ? I have been in Vancouver/BC for close to 10y and have never heard of anyone paying for care in any form. The virtual ones are all covered by MSP, access to doctors via the virtual calls and walk ins isn't perfect but isn't what you're describing
aprdm··on Ask HN: Is the job market dead or something?
How are they counted ? I don’t assume the government has metrics on clicks per person on website’s looking for job section with a timestamp
aprdm··on Why I Like Obsidian
I guess it depends the person, dealing with sqlite + python doesn't need dependencies or custom drivers and is easy to do/easier to manage for me than bash scripts
aprdm··on Why I Like Obsidian
I tried both and am using Joplin. Has less fuss around it and I focus more on simply taking notes .. the syncing is also cheaper and you can use for work
aprdm··on Why I Like Obsidian
Hm really ? It easily exports to markdown, and scripting against sqlite is very straightforward too
aprdm··on Why I Like Obsidian
Can you expand how you refactor ?
aprdm··on Ask HN: Why are resumes longer than one page frowned upon?
No one will read a multi-page CV for an interview. It will be a conversation and some set of questions from both sides.
aprdm··on Ask HN: Why are resumes longer than one page frowned upon?
I get hundreds to thousands of CVs for an opening. I spend 5-10s on each one. That's why. Your resume should basically tell me that I should talk more to you and why.. doing it on one page or two pages max is how you optimize for it. I cannot spend more than 5-10s on each one or I would never finish
aprdm··on Show HN: I made a tool to compare time zones
this is great, will definitely be using it
aprdm··on Ask HN: Go to tech stack for building small SaaS in 2024?
50 customers ? You can build it with Django and sqlite with zero dependencies and deploy via scp, run it on the cheapest DO and call it a day. Easy to scale later too and you will be developing/deploying the business logic from day 1
aprdm··on Ask HN: How do you review your Zettelkasten notes?
Remarkable can be a good compromise
aprdm··on More product, fewer product managers
The assertiveness of your replies implies to me that you never worked in big companies
aprdm··on More product, fewer product managers
The PMs I’ve worked with have had many decades of experience in the area of their product and knew much more than our dev team about the business domain
aprdm··on The Final Speech from The Great Dictator (1940)
Isn’t that a definition of success in our current society ?
aprdm··on The Final Speech from The Great Dictator (1940)
Yeah this is so unfortunate, we need to reverse this trend as a civilization
aprdm··on The Final Speech from The Great Dictator (1940)
Yet Jeff Bezos in his podcast appearance yesterday which was a 2h talk said that when data and anecdote disagree to trust the anecdote and gut feeling
aprdm··on Ask HN: How to get started with practical hardware?
Buy an fpga
aprdm··on Ask HN: Anyone using Bazel at startups? or migrated to/away from Bazel?
Poetry?
aprdm··on Ask HN: How many of you feel lonely in a crowd?
I would suggest doing activities outside the computer as the only real way of fighting lone-less- I have recently changed cities and went to the facebook group of the city.

There I used the search function to find groups of people playing Tennis and Soccer. I then showed up and started making friends/plans/hikings/coffees.

I also found out how I could mentor people in tech and grabbed a coffee with a few people who were late in their careers and trying to change jobs [it isn't a tech city, so people work more like "IT work"].

Also simply going for walks and coffees on the same places ensures you see familiar faces and start conversations!

Making contact with real people is the way - staying in online forums like this and Reddit is the opposite of what you want

aprdm··on Ask HN: Is anyone else bearish on OpenAI?
Yeah I think the people who haven't found value are people who either don't have strong communication skills hence cannot articulate what they need OR work in very speciailized fields - either way they're clearly the minority seeing how many paying users chatgtp has and how fast they got there
aprdm··on Ask HN: Is anyone else bearish on OpenAI?
Yeah definitely. But the tooling is very diverse in big companies. They might use every database under the sun, one day you might be doing React another one AngularJS, one day Django another day FastAPI, one day k8s, other day terraform.. at least my brain is very limited and it can be helpful
aprdm··on Ask HN: What are you reading these days?
It is amazing ! I didn't like the 2nd book tho, didn't keep me interested
aprdm··on Ask HN: What are you reading these days?
The handmaid's tale
aprdm··on Ask HN: Is anyone else bearish on OpenAI?
I don't know how to tell how off the mark you're. Perhaps try studying a subject on a language you aren't fluent in and compare the experience using chatgtp vs traditional methods ? I don't know what else to tell you, it has been life changing to my wife on a way that dictionaries haven't been
aprdm··on Ask HN: Is anyone else bearish on OpenAI?
bing chat actually lists the sources
aprdm··on Ask HN: Is anyone else bearish on OpenAI?
Probably because you're deep specialized in something or have stagnated on a company for a long time ? I cannot imagine knowing everything about what I am working on, that has changed dramatically every 3-4 months even within the same company
