The slavish US backing is the same slavish backing we give to Egypt, both consequent on Camp David. It is very obvious - simple arithmetic - that Israel would have a much bigger and chearper arsenal if they traded arms with China, India, Russia etc. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just jewpilled.

It is impossible to affect the Persian empire by such means. They might as well have tried to take the Soviet Union or China by like means. There is no such thing as 'flattening' China or Iran

Sanskrit is no older than Kurdish; English Greek etc have the same relation to it as to Kurdish — they are all alike of Indo European descent.

Like Greek and Latin, Sanskrit is an anciently written language associated with major states and ‘civilizations’ - and, crucially, is like Greek and Latin in that it is still remembered if only by some thin intellectual or priestly stratum of societies.

So by use of those three, Indo European unity could be especially well validated by pure textual scholarship (especially if the scholar was British or German and thus on another branch). It is surprising as the result is intuitively scientific — how could I arrive at it if all I do is read and write?! - and was indeed of massive importance to the framing of Darwin’s quite different scientific enterprise, which needed different evidence .

The claim that the speech was somehow supporting open weights was pure Western imposition. China does not support open weights generally, and Xi makes plain that some systems of weights - perhaps still future - would have inherent risks, same as Amodei says of Mythos, whether or not he is bull_ing about it.
applicative··on DeepSeek-V4-Flash Update
Bytedance models completely pervade business use across China. It is the OpenAI of China, whether you think its a good model or not.
applicative··on DeepSeek-V4-Flash Update
The Chinese equivalent of the expression 'open weights' appears nowhere in this talk. You believed the Western press. Chinese AIs are not typically open. The most important by far is Bytedance.
applicative··on DeepSeek-V4-Flash Update
"Dangers" may indeed be hyped up for marketing purposes or domestic regulatory-capture motives. But as Xi stated, they will become real.

It is just a question of being unaffected by the motives of the speakers, which is what adults learn to do.

applicative··on DeepSeek-V4-Flash Update
Fine, you believe Anthropic was lying about Mythos. In fact no view of the matter is needed to formulate the proposition above. It is clear China will soon have a model with the powers imputed to Mythos but which you deny of actual Mythos. It is a trial to deal with this level of ideological blindness; 'ideology has no outside'. If someone says 'when they get Mythos...', declare the possibility of Mythos to be the real lie. But it is quite possible and will be coming in months.
applicative··on DeepSeek-V4-Flash Update
> Maybe once Chinese models have speed, cost, and intelligence beat but right now they don't.

Yes this is why I referred to 'months' and was downvoted by people who can't distinguish their politics from reality. You are restating exactly the text you are criticizing.

This is the nature of mechanical parrotlike repetition of propaganda:

a) You can have 'frontier' models with closed weights. Your sentence is basically a contraction within itself, again, the weight of ideology.

b) No one actually knows whether or not the closed weights of Bytedance are beyond all existing frontiers. Again the weight of ideology blinds you to the fact that the real 800 lb gorilla of Chinese Ai is more closed than Anthropic.

Xi actually said that models of the strength to pose security issues will be permanent state secrets -- in the same speech that the first western takes translated as actually using the words 'open weights' which of course nowhere appeared. Now: when will "models of the strength to pose security issues" appear? Maybe my inference 'months' is wrong, but they seem to be advancing rapidly.

The administration blather about banning open weights is characteristically confused. Xi has already stated (what is obvious) that he will ban security-endangering weights and keep them a state secret.

applicative··on DeepSeek-V4-Flash Update
I'm a) quoting Xi's speech and b) projecting rapid China development to Mythos level. Either you think China will never get to 'Mythos level' because you think China bad; or you think they will release the weights, because you think China bad. Its incredible the weight of ideology over facts in this discourse
applicative··on DeepSeek-V4-Flash Update
No, reading Xi's speech. They aren't going to give their Mythos - presumably a few months away - to the Sinaloa cartel or Uighur hackers or the US military or etc etc
applicative··on DeepSeek-V4-Flash Update
Even Xi's speech was as paranoid as Dario Amodei about the possibility of Chinese AI achieving something at the level of say Mythos. If you seriously believe such a thing will be on Hugging Face I really don't know what to say.
applicative··on DeepSeek-V4-Flash Update
No in that very speech Xi stated explicitly what amounted to: 'of course when we get a Mythos, it will be a state secret'.

In fact the overwhelming weight of AI use in China, the chatgpt so to say, is Bytedance's AI which is absolutely closed and uniquely opaque.

The press treatment of these matters was no good and they are slowly walking it back, e.g. NYT yesterday finally actually read the speech.

applicative··on DeepSeek-V4-Flash Update
How one is affected psychologically by LLMs 'hallucinating' presumably closely tracks how one is affected by pathological liars. Most of the things pathological liars say is true and if you can put up with it, one can work with them and learn from them. But some respond with extreme hatred and avoidance. This seems like one of the responses that is reasonable ... as is acceptance and instrumentalization of the individual.
applicative··on DeepSeek-V4-Flash Update
Xi going to shut down open-weighting of them in a matter of months. No one seriously doubts this. They will be too powerful and they will be gone.
applicative··on Kimi K3-256k
Yes, something I read just before it was released suggested that, because of the unique features of the model, there was a back and forth of Hugging Face, Moonshot and providers like Together AI and Fireworks AI. This also explained why it took much less than a day for Together, Fireworks etc to appear. Whatever they are doing is what Moonshot wants, I think.

applicative··on Open-weight AI is having its Kubernetes moment
The headline from 7 years ago has not borne out; Africa is a minor supplier.

The point is quite different: that everyone is harmed by advanced open weight agentic models even as we are benefited by them. This holds of African states as of any other. Many of them, by the way, are under attack from well-funded moderately insane groups like JNIM. Also by the way, groups like this are famously really good at recruiting the specific psychical type of the engineer.

It is not possible that releasing open weights will continue forever, or probably even to the end of the year.

applicative··on Open-weight AI is having its Kubernetes moment
China has no end of money to support these companies. The reason this equilibrium is unstable is that the autonomous agentic coding aspect of the models has been so successfully improved that it will soon be a threat to China state security.
applicative··on Open-weight AI is having its Kubernetes moment
Everyone just keeps assuming, as if it were the law of gravity, that China will continue in perpetuity to deliver the weights of its 'frontier' models to Hugging Face. Its Mythos moment is a few months away and there is plenty of reporting suggesting their response will be similar, which is anyway obvious.

It baffles me that anyone can seriously believe that China is going to put its Mythos successor on Hugging Face and let us all strip the guardrails etc.

Things just didn't turn out the way OpenAI and Anthropic thought; nor did they turn out the way China thought.

applicative··on Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta warn against overregulating open-weight models
Everyone keeps assuming that China will forever be publishing these models, but it is clear as a bell that that day is over. In the end every model will be buried under state control for the simple reason that they will soon be really dangerous, as China understands better than anyone. They will give Kimi K3 to the Sinaloa cartel and the US military, but that's about the end of it.

Perfecting these autonomous agential coding AIs just moved way way faster than anyone expected. People are desperately trying to save their principles from six months ago but it's a different world. They can work out their issues with Trump, Dario and Sam, but it is Xi who will shut all this down.

applicative··on Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta warn against overregulating open-weight models
China will be dropping the open models blather any day now. The autonomous agential coding Ai just turned out to be way too easy to perfect. They will give Kimi K3 to the Sinaloa cartel on Monday, but that's going to be the end of it.
