aphroz··on Everything with a battery should have an off switch
Maybe that's a security feature, as you probably don't want the lithium battery to explode near your head.
aphroz··on Flash Boys 2: Frontrunning, transaction reordering, consensus instability (2019)
Interesting coincidence, I was reading this paper after seeing it being quoted here: https://www.paradigm.xyz/2020/08/ethereum-is-a-dark-forest
aphroz··on Exposure to 835MHz RF-EMF induces hyperactivity and demyelination in mice (2017)
I used to see the SAR in phone specs, but not anymore. I guess our phone is less stuck to our head since the smartphones?
aphroz··on The bottom is dropping out of Netflix
In France the dubbing is very well done and some movies are even better when dubbed. I still watch movies in the original language with subtitles but some 90's movies like Back to the Future are even better dubbed in French. There are even YouTube channels dedicated to dubbed movies where they invite dubbing actors, etc.
aphroz··on DOS Nostalgia: On using a modern DOS workstation
Strangely I have lived almost exactly the same thing as the author (I had to check it wasn't me). The difference was that I bought the C64. I spent an unreasonable time connecting it to the wifi and I still haven't figured out the best way to SSH to my desktop.
aphroz··on What Le Corbusier got right about office space
That's not the best picture of it. There are better pictures here: https://www.archdaily.com/940878/le-corbusiers-cite-fruges-l...

And this was built more than 100 years ago.

aphroz··on Etsy Strike
Bringing customers to your own website is very costly and difficult. You will need to spend a lot in ads and convince your customers that you are legit.
aphroz··on Jokes that have made people laugh for thousands of years
Remember that there is a bias as this has been written by people knowing how to write. So it might not have captured the funniest jokes. P.s.: People who start a joke and don't finish it are the worst
aphroz··on Celebrate tiny learning milestones
> The reason I still haven’t learned C isn’t that I suck or that C is impossible to learn

But also:

> I’m comfortable writing very basic C programs as long as they don’t have to do anything fancy like “memory management”

So when do you consider you learn something? Aren't we always learning?

aphroz··on Russia opens criminal investigation of Meta over death calls on Facebook
Meta decides what violence is acceptable or not. If you are still on Facebook, you can decide if this is acceptable for you. I would be surprised if they are still here in 10 years. They will probably burn all their money developing the metaverse anyway.
aphroz··on Francis Ford Coppola’s $100M Dollar Bet
He seems to have bet his whole life and at the end he seems to have won. I wonder why he doesn't do a crowd funding, I am sure he would raise the money easily and not have producers on his back.
aphroz··on Acute aerobic exercise to recover from mental exhaustion
The idea that "breakfast was the most important meal" was created by cereals manufacturers: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/nov/28/breakfa...
aphroz··on The Big Mac index: Our interactive currency comparison tool
It's maybe 20% more expensive in Switzerland but it tastes better.
aphroz··on CyberChef – The Cyber Swiss Army Knife
I always wondered if any of the online tools like JSONlint or any other tools that manipulate data would save it or try to extract data as it is often used to indent or decode potentially sensitive data.
aphroz··on Euler’s 243-Year-Old ‘Impossible’ Puzzle Gets a Quantum Solution
>"Two coins can be maximally entangled, and so can three, but not four"

How can 3 coins be maximally entangled? Is there also a quantum solution to entanglement monogamy?

aphroz··on Keyboard lets people type so fast it’s banned from typing competitions
I can't stand software autocorrect, so hardware autocorrect would be a nightmare for me. This works only when you type regular text in one language.
aphroz··on Companies that had successful pivots
Samsung was exporting dried Korean fish
aphroz··on Ansiwave BBS, a modern BBS with ANSI art and MIDI music
Opening this website crashes Chrome on my Android device
aphroz··on Backdoor gives hackers complete control over federal agency network
Why do federal agencies use closed source software? They are the best placed to know ho insecure that is.
aphroz··on There oughta be a WiFi Game Boy cartridge
I am looking forward to see cloud gaming for the Game Boy!
aphroz··on There oughta be a WiFi Game Boy cartridge
It reminds me the wifi modem I use for the Commodore 64
aphroz··on Show HN: Code Hike – More than syntax highlighting
Everybody is saying that they didn't got it, but then they got it, and I am still wondering what it does. It looks like Markdown to me. So what is it?
aphroz··on Saintcon: Lock Picking Lawyer Keynote
I've watched way too many lockpicking videos since I discovered LPL. A little click on one, two is binding..
aphroz··on Goodbye, Staples Center. Hello, Crypto.com Arena
It's getting real
aphroz··on Banks, gangsters and the strange resurgence of cash
Maybe this: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:w1IazCk...
aphroz··on [dead]
Indeed
aphroz··on “looks like Firefox quietly added ads into the address bar”
Interesting, I always thought that the quality of the conversation was better than on the blue one. But I am a white male.
aphroz··on “looks like Firefox quietly added ads into the address bar”
Is HN the orange website she's talking about when she says: "also whoever posted my tweet to the orange website, fuck you" ?

Why?

aphroz··on How to Deal with Complexity Like a Pilot (Part 1)
This is why pilots don't work in software. It is probably the opposite you should do, communicate with other team members about the problem, navigate to the issue and aviate to the solution. Developers who always focus on aviate solve the immediate problem but end up crashing the whole system at the end.
aphroz··on Former NSA Hacker Describes Being Recruited for UAE Spy Program
I find it hard to believe that you can work for the NSA without being given proper training to detect this kind of maneuver.
