Building AI verse - One company at a time
submissionscomments
anuraj··on James Webb Telescope will run a proprietary JS interpreter by a bankrupt company
Why is it even running JavaScript? That too for mission critical application.
anuraj··on The Dutch East India Co was richer than Apple, Google, Facebook combined (2017)
And to think that this great company was defeated once and for all at the Battle of Colachel by Travancore King Marthanda Varma and faded away soon after :)

anuraj··on India test its first anti-satellite missile system
Once you technically solved the problem of sending satellites to orbit using a rocket - you already have the wherewithal to target them as well. ISRO achieved this eons ago. Apart from boasting rights - nobody can really use this for fear of reprimand from UN and world powers. The gist is - don't make space your arena of war - future generations will not pardon you!
anuraj··on India test its first anti-satellite missile system
This is just an election gimmick from india’s Megalomaniac PM Modi. Neither very important nor actually achieved during his tenure.
anuraj··on Google Takes Its First Steps Toward Killing the URL
So by obfuscating data from users - Google is salvaging Internet?
anuraj··on Brexit Deal Fails in Parliament
UK is staring at supply chain and financial disruptions post Brexit. In the multi polar world - UK is not a heavy weight any more. Without the collective bargaining power of EU - UK would have tough time rebuilding economy in an uber competitive global economic context.
anuraj··on Ask HN: Is it just me or is the AMP project making everything slower?
AMP is a project that benefits only a giant corporation. Please don't support it.
anuraj··on REST and long-running jobs (2014)
Better options would be:

1. Send partial HTTP response (206) with progress details which may be handled using AJAX progress API at the client before sending final response. This is processing and network intensive but may be needed in certain scenarios like drawing graphics etc. You cannot recover from connection loss.

2. Handover the task to a job scheduler and return the jobid. Client can then poll jobid using a status API or get the status pushed using a webhook. This is the more optimal approach for majority of cases.

anuraj··on India: Google engineer latest victim of mob lynchings fueled by WhatsApp rumors
Cow lynchings, political lynchings, WhatsApp lynchings - many have direct connection with Hindutva organisations. Recently we had an RSS minister openly felicitating convicts of a cow lynching. That is the state of democracy in India. State governments are virtually powerless under Modi’s Raj.

Here is an up to date chronology of lynchings under Modi https://www.thequint.com/quintlab/lynching-in-india/

Let us stand firm against hatred in the name of religion and race. Stand for democracy - stand against authoritarianism.

anuraj··on India: Google engineer latest victim of mob lynchings fueled by WhatsApp rumors
Ever since Narendra Modi came to power - India has become Lynchistan. The Hindu supremacist leader and his organisation RSS that stands for ‘Cultural Nationalism’ is imposing ‘Hindi, Hindu, Hindustan’ - a monoculture which advocates ‘One Nation, One Language, One Religion’ for a country as diverse as India. The hate that is unleashed is consuming democracy slowly but surely. Future is indeed bleak for India.

Many Hindutva Organisations affiliated to RSS raise large amount of money from US tech sector each year. I request everybody to put pressure on their companies and colleagues not to donate money to racist and supremacist organisations.

anuraj··on Jan Koum to leave after broad clashes with Facebook
WhatsApp is much more monetizable than Facebook. It is a giant transaction switch that can become the biggest payment and commerce network on the planet. Zuckerberg would do well to unwind and eventually shutdown Facebook which will anyway die a natural death and concentrate on WhatsApp.
anuraj··on We need a nationalised alternative to Facebook
So that the big brother watches you over instead of a corporation. Great Idea!!!
anuraj··on Ask HN: Are Bitbucket and JIRA down?
Looks like - have been out for over couple of hours now
anuraj··on India Wants to Give Half a Billion People Free Health Care
http://www.firstpost.com/business/budget-2018-arun-jaitleys-...
anuraj··on India Wants to Give Half a Billion People Free Health Care
This is a sham. There is no specific allocation for the same in the budget. State Governments have been instituting insurance cover for population for ages and it is available around the same quantum. Generally insurance in India like any other country has the effect of artificially inflating healthcare cost. India would do well to spend money on improving public health infrastructure instead.
anuraj··on India unveils $2.5B plan to electrify all households by end 2018
Nothing New - This programme was originally called RAJIV GANDHI GRAMEEN VIDYUTIKARAN YOJANA (RGGVY) (2004-2017) to electrify all villages. During this period only Kerala achieved 100% electrification to all households. This is old wine in new bottle. More window dressing for a country that is facing unprecedented economic slowdown and job losses.
anuraj··on Right to Privacy a Fundamental Right, Says Indian Supreme Court
Right to Privacy is the cornerstone of Liberty - which is the founding principle of democracy. Government was brazenly trying to push aadhaar for anything and everything - not just subsidies - and this ruling put paid to such authoritarian sureveillance tendencies.
anuraj··on Right to Privacy a Fundamental Right, Says Indian Supreme Court
India has 22 official languages of which English is the one that works across the country.
anuraj··on Right to Privacy a Fundamental Right, Says Indian Supreme Court
After 70 years of independence - right to privacy is recognised as a fundamental right by the Supreme Court of India. Individual rights especially privacy underlie the cornerstone of democracy - Liberty. A small step for Indian Supreme Court - a giant leap for 1/5th of mankind!

Welcome democracy. Bye bye mobocracy!

anuraj··on Modi Takes a Leap With India’s Biggest-Ever Tax Overhaul
Sharing at centre's discretion is not enough. I am talking about separate State and Central Income Tax as in several federal democracies. It is an idea whose time shall come sooner than later.
anuraj··on Modi Takes a Leap With India’s Biggest-Ever Tax Overhaul
First of all legwork for GST was done by previous UPA government. Modi to his credit has done the diplomatic work to get states ratify the same. And give where credit is due - It is the states with 2/3rd votes in the GST council that did the final negotiations and got GST a success and made uniform tax across the country a reality. The IT infra is woefully inadequate - I expect the pain to last at least 2 years till adequate infra is created by govt and enterprises and till then manual accountants would have huge job opportunity. In the short term we will see a marginal contraction of the economy due to high compliance costs and readjustments in the value chains.

In a way GST will also pave way for higher tax sharing between centre and states and shall strengthen federalism - income tax sharing is the next in line. And slowly India shall become a union of states as it should have been.

anuraj··on Moving from Native Apps to Progressive Web Apps
Native Apps Vs Web Apps is settled and Native Apps won. Web Apps offer compromised UI and performance and shall always remain a security threat - Cross Scripting, Link baiting, CORS my... . We are going to app less economy now - and contextual interactive interfaces that route to/from headless services based on advanced intelligence is the future.Apps are dying, long live the apps.
anuraj··on Donald Trump is the president-elect of the U.S.
Rigged media coverage and polls, selective voter registration, Debbie Wassermann Shultz incident, Super Delegates - too many to list.
anuraj··on Donald Trump is the president-elect of the U.S.
Bernie Sanders was the candidate who could have defeated Trump. The DNC establishment and media rigged the primaries for Clinton but failed to gauge the anger that is building - Trump is the outcome.
anuraj··on India's demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes
You clearly don't understand the implication - wait and watch
anuraj··on India's demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes
One of the most idiotic decisions ever - just wait and watch the anger on the streets in the coming days. India is not ready to be a cashless economy - it is eons away with its illiterate masses.
anuraj··on It’s cheaper to build multiple native applications than one responsive web app
We do the same - each of our Android and iOS developers can complete a medium complexity app in 2 months flat without any issues - Web - not so much - while initial work is done much faster - it takes ages to tackle responsiveness issues even with Bootstrap. So although our web apps are responsive - we still provide native Android and iOS apps to clients. I don't see web apps replacing native apps anytime soon.
anuraj··on Is REST Best in a Microservices Architecture?
Author seems to be a simpleton to believe that REST architectures shall not have messaging/asynchronous modules. In real life no system can be built purely synchronous or asynchronous. REST apis makes it easy to build headless services that can talk to each other. That does not preclude asynchronous modules behind the facade.
anuraj··on Software That Lasts 200 Years (2004)
As long as underlying data is preserved, software is better done fungible. Data formats change, processing models and architectures change, underlying hardware change - allowing us to do more with less. In my career I have found there are no stable architectures - systems require refactoring every couple of years to stay manageable and full rewrites possibly once every technology cycle to make it in tune with the times. This is not a limitation, but an opportunity as software is constantly evolving and is more like a living, breathing organism than a permanent structure.
anuraj··on A new approach to web performance
Nothing new - Ever heard of CHTML, WBXML etc? 90's standards.
