anupj··on The Terrifying Background of the Man Who Ran a CIA Assassination Unit
Maybe I've missed something here but how is this question relevent to hacker news?
anupj··on Plagiarism
It makes me wonder what else have they plagiarised. Just saying.
anupj··on Steve's Google Platform rant
I think he made it "mainstream" :)
anupj··on What would Feynman do?
I don't think Dr. Feynman talks in such a cryptic language, if you've read his books you would know that he actually talks/writes in a very lucid language. But the person mentioned in the interview does sound like a certain "Sheldon" from the "The Big Bang Theory".
anupj··on Gmail: Trap my contacts now (warning when exporting contacts to Facebook)
yes, it's definitely new and it looks likely that this was added to warn facebook users who are tyring to export their google contacts.
anupj··on Infinitely Beta has launched paisa.com - uses Clojure and Python
I agree. The site looks chic :). Please don't spoil it by adding 'ugly' Google ads banner. Even if you do, please add it in a non-obtrusive manner (which is as easy as solving P=NP? challenge).
anupj··on An implausibly illustrated introduction to HTML5 Web Workers
I agree. Technically speaking there is no native support for Webworkers in IE at the moment. That is about to change with IE9 though.
anupj··on Google and Verizon's net neutrality proposal explained
well articulated article on what the "joint policy" proposal is all about. I am not sure I like the "Wireless Broadband shouldn't follow the net neutrality" clause.
anupj··on [dead]
because it's a story about how "reason" triumphed over superstition and stupidity. Very hacker(ish) if you ask me.
anupj··on Mozilla rips off Metalab, issue apparently resolved within the hour
good artists copy, great artists steal :)
anupj··on Ubisoft DRM authentification server is down, Assassin's Creed 2 unplayable
I hope that the Ubisoft execs a.k.a douchebags have realized that their new "DRM authentication" system is an epic fail. From what I've read so far, it is neither useful nor effective, but has proved to be a source of inconvenience to the customers who actually bought the game.
anupj··on Moral decision making in Fallout(3)
I've just finished playing Fallout3, and was looking for more resources on the web to enhance my gaming experience when I stumbled upon this thoughtful article. I think it is a good read, even if you are not a games designer/developer.
anupj··on Ubisoft’s newfangled DRM scheme requires you to be online to play
I agree. And I don't believe that this whole be online to play tactic is hard to hack. It will only add another obstacle for the crackers to overcome, but cause real pain to customers who actually buy their game.
anupj··on Ubisoft’s newfangled DRM scheme requires you to be online to play
No, it doesn't. What if I buy this game to play on my laptop. And then I am out of the country in a place where there is no internet connection. Will I be able to play this game? The fact is that I paid my hard earned money on this game, and I own the game. I don't want to jump through hoops to actually play the game. I agree that it prevents piracy to some extent, but are they (Ubisoft) so naive to believe that this additional layer of security is hard to crack. Seriously, Ubisoft needs to rethink it's strategy before it alienates its customers.
anupj··on Venezuela: Chavez equates Twitter with terrorism
Well, I don't think they'll be able to selectively censor twitter, They'll either have to completely ban twitter or live with it.
anupj··on Gadget Makers Can Find Thief, but Don’t Ask
On a different note, do you find it annoying when nytimes.com forces you to login to read an article?
anupj··on Why I'm Quitting Gmail
Maybe I'm being naive here, but why are you quitting Gmail, when the problem is clearly with Adsense. I understand that you are furious at Google, and from what you've said you have every right to be; But why stop at Gmail, why not quit Google Search as well :).

I hope Google gets back to you with a more reasonable explaination.

anupj··on Springsource acquired by VMWare
Interesting to see what will happen to the open source community around spring source?
anupj··on Linus: "Microsoft Hatred Is a Disease"
I agree, Microsoft sometimes deserves the wave of hatred, because it has on more than one occassion tried to stifle competition.
anupj··on Goodbye, Apple
I think Palm Pre is concerned more about its users, whereas apple is obsessed with it's software and hardware. Everyone knows that interoperability is a great thing to have, but nobody wants their competitor(Palm Pre et al) to benefit from the technology that they(Apple) has pioneered and improved for years. Think of it this way. Imagine a world where Palm Pre is invented before iPhone, and there is PreTunes software which is the most popular music/app store in the world. Then Apple launches iPhone, do you think Apple would try to make iPhone compatible with the hypothetical 'PreTunes'? or more importantly: Would Palm stop iPhone from being used via PreTunes? The answer is probably 'Yes'.
anupj··on Free Software Foundation calls upon Amazon to free the ebook reader.
A while back there was a rumour that Amazon had open sourced the Kindle, which turned out to be false of course. The code was really GPL'd Linux libraries and drivers.

In an ideal world I think Amazon should open source the Kindle software, but I think because of pragmatic business repurcussions it won't happen anytime soon.

anupj··on The Great Wall of Facebook
Seriously, I don't think it should be that hard to purge user data, unless it has already been assimilated/linked to other user statistics.
anupj··on Facebook | Engineering Puzzles
I tried sending them an email with a build.xml file, and a java src file. But they've sent me an email stating that the build failed, even though the build works on my machine.

The src file is called hoppity.java. The build file compiles the class in the current directory, and copies the file in the same current directory.
