antupis··on Sid Meier's Civilization VII
Has Civs fixed any point of the static nature of the game after begin? I like paradox games like Crusader Kings where the game throws curve balls and the whole game world feels alive.
antupis··on OpenAI Sales Agent Demo
Pretty much, kinda needs the next step there. Agent can do a bunch of API calls and report data out but what is missing is that it does not act based on those.
antupis··on Complete hardware and software setup for running Deepseek-R1 locally. ($6000)
Pretty much especially in Europe there is lots of big companies and public sector institutions that would pay serious € if they could run these.
antupis··on Byzantine-Sassanian War (602-628 CE): The Last Great War of Antiquity (2023)
yes and no then you have characters like Genghis Khan who change history even if everything is stacked against them.
antupis··on There's No Such Thing as Software Productivity (2012)
Pretty spot on and that is why devops stuff and automatic tests are so important. Those just let your bet faster.
antupis··on Llama.cpp Now Supports Qwen2-VL (Vision Language Model)
Have you tested tool calling capabilities of these cheaper models?
antupis··on GM exits robotaxi market, will bring Cruise operations in house
This has a strong vibe of the past:

"In the early 1980s AT&T asked McKinsey to estimate how many cellular phones would be in use in the world at the turn of the century. The consultancy noted all the problems with the new devices—the handsets were absurdly heavy, the batteries kept running out, the coverage was patchy and the cost per minute was exorbitant—and concluded that the total market would be about 900,000. At the time this persuaded AT&T to pull out of the market, although it changed its mind later. "

antupis··on GM exits robotaxi market, will bring Cruise operations in house
Yup, there is zero chance that the market is too small. The only issues are whether a company can the technology to work and obtain regulatory approval.
antupis··on The deterioration of Google
Google has very research division but productising those inventions is the problem.
antupis··on Amazon to invest another $4B in Anthropic
Yeah this working with knowledgeable customer is like magic.
antupis··on Managing High Performers
Not true theirs is plenty of mediocre players that become great coaches. I really cannot see why IT would be different.
antupis··on Lessons from my first exit
A big part is that you are not working for man but yourself.
antupis··on How to delegate effectively as your responsibility grows
> Managers need to pay close attention to where they spend their energy (=time). For example, the CEO should not be spending time picking items for the company snack cupboard.

Last startup where I was working, I knew that the company was toast when the CEO was bragging in a company-wide call about how he designed the background mural for the new office entrance.

antupis··on How I ship projects at big tech companies
When you ship it is arts and crafts which usually leans heavily to a small group of people Then if you want it to be commercial succesfully it needs some manufacturing practices because otherwise, you end up with legacy software.
antupis··on Bluesky adds 700k new users in a week
Mastodon would be perfect for these but there is no critical mass at least yet.
antupis··on How I ship projects at big tech companies
If end-users do like it upper managment notices it but it will take time, generally you iterate faster against upper managnent. Same kinda applies when end users dont like that stuff so you cannot lean too heavily to opticks game.
antupis··on I quit Google to work for myself (2018)
And it is working generally very well if you compare GCP and Azure. DX is much better at GCP but Azure does stuff that companies care much better and is 2x bigger.
antupis··on Polar Night in the Northernmost Town
Yeah, luckily southern Sweden has about 1-2 hours more daylight.
antupis··on Polar Night in the Northernmost Town
It is kinda hard when there is no snow so it is really pitch black. Basically October-November sucks and then it gets easier.
antupis··on Who Pays for the Arts?
We kind of see same shift happening in real-time with The Beatles at the moment
antupis··on Meta confirms it trains its AI on any image you ask Ray-Ban Meta AI to analyze
Stupid question but is this wise from a business standpoint? let's say child pornography or some national security stuff slips into training data.
antupis··on Math from Three to Seven
It is so interesting that those are always so country-specific here in Finland it is Medicine and industrial management.
antupis··on Sam Altman: Long con was "child's play for me"
Generally, these cloak-and-dagger companies just vanish especially industry where is fierce competition because cloak-and-dagger stuff takes just too much energy from the north start. I would not be surprised if 2025 GPT-5 still is not out and OpenAI just drops the whole model + number concept and just starts calling it to gpt.
antupis··on Founder Mode
My ex colleague is still fuming after several years about case where professional manager decided to program parser that we decided was 8 story points. If this manager would have been founder it would probably have been normal stuff about founder spearheading initiative.
antupis··on The Threat to OpenAI
Thing is that LLM generated word salad is destroying Google search.
antupis··on Against all odds, an asteroid mining company appears to be making headway
Yup that is how I would do it. Water sample returns to labs > water mining > platinum/gold/etc.
antupis··on Artificial intelligence is losing hype
> As everything, now AI is losing hype, but somehow (in my bubble) seems like engineers are still high on it. But I also see that this will distill further the set of people who I look up to and want to collaborate with, because e of that mentioned humbleness, as opposed to just accepting text predicted solutions mindlessly.

It is dotcom bust again. Mainstream is losing interest but at the same time I see our internal chatbots / ai agents doing hockey stick growth and I am using several hours code pilot daily.

antupis··on Transformers in music recommendation
Is there a site that has hand-curated playlists I would love that let's say if I want to listen to Korean pop from the 90s or Minimal Techno from the 00s.
antupis··on The Blue Collar Jobs of Philip Glass
Also tenure Glass would have been just different than blue collar Glass we had.
antupis··on GIL Become Optional in Python 3.13
But usually, in spaces where you need speed Python is just an orchestrator or glue between pipelines, and actually, calculations are done by db or some c/c++/fortran library.
