antonioevans··on Remains of Alexander the Great's Father Confirmed Found
No they didn't. They found someone of elite burial with injuries similar to Philip II (how many elite burial sites are there..many). This is sensationalism not science. This will be argued for a long time.
antonioevans··on Y Combinator to recruit more black entrepreneurs
I didn't feel bias at all. The bias is towards companies that fit a model they like and if they can find entrepreneurs who can execute on that model. Has nothing to do with race. But one thing yes the "startup" system isn't really built to accelerate certain communities. the biggest thing is access. It's same in lots of industries and YC/startups aren't the only ones that deal with it.
antonioevans··on Y Combinator to recruit more black entrepreneurs
not talking about interviewers but people who applied. 3 people of color. 5 Asian people. and maybe 80 Caucasians the whole day I was there. Also maybe 3-10 women. It was an observation and far from a racist comment.
antonioevans··on Y Combinator to recruit more black entrepreneurs
bullshit. we got a YC interview for summer 2014. We had almost 200k in revenue and outpaced it (2 months later) almost 400k. I am black spanish guy and cofounder female latin. Only people in our interview who look like us (or in the whole place). Not being angry at all just saying this is a publicity in my opinion. Our model didn't fit into what they were investing on at the time. We didn't need money but wanted to be part of YC. But i will tell you no one looked like us.
antonioevans··on Ask HN: Good countries for American expats
The issue with many expat is they want what they get at home without embracing local culture. Stay home I say.
antonioevans··on The New Airbnb
Don Draper is a fictional character. The reason they used home is to increase auxiliary market share such as home cleaning, key exchange, food delivery, etc services.
antonioevans··on RocketSkates let you zip along the sidewalk at a top speed of 12 MPH
I have. It's a kids toy with a slow mo video. But I am sure the founders of this seeded this thread with enough fake accounts to make sure it gets its much deserved publicity.
antonioevans··on RocketSkates let you zip along the sidewalk at a top speed of 12 MPH
Yeah and more crap like Yo! and Make a Potato Salad kickstarters will get funded by people who have 20 bucks to waste. I am not hating on the idea because this isn't new at all. Spend 15 minutes on Alibaba and you'll see most of what most hardware kickstarters are sourcing their stuff. .. And yeah I watched the slickly edited video, but they aren't getting my money.

Also this has nothing to do with optimism vs pessimism, it's that stuff like this shouldn't be on hackerne,ws unless they really are hacking something/creating something/showing something innovative (semi innovative works also).

antonioevans··on RocketSkates let you zip along the sidewalk at a top speed of 12 MPH
More kickstarter Vaporware.
antonioevans··on Game of Thrones: why hasn’t Westeros had an industrial revolution?
Yep, as an entrepreneur it would be pretty difficult for me to have my factory shutdown for 5-7 years because the roads had 5 years worth of snow on them.
antonioevans··on Startup Uses Eggs to Poach Employees from Facebook, Google
You don't like Egg Sandwiches? They're excellent.
antonioevans··on My Surreal UberX Experience
I am not deaf or blind, but podcasts give me the same experiences. Specifically Radio Lab or This American Life. Growing up in the TV generation we are so use to one stimuli...the visual one.

We forget about the way the other ones are so fresh and sensitive.

antonioevans··on Microsoft Will Soon Bring Back The Start Menu In Windows 8.1
I don't agree. Metro doesn't make sense if you have a desktop with apps on it. It's redundant. I have no access to the numbers but in my office no one uses the Apps except weather. Trying to create a ubiquitous system for tablets/phones/desktop ignores how people use each device.
antonioevans··on Tesla and SpaceX: Elon Musk's industrial empire [video]
One of the parts of the interview that gave me chills was when they mentioned, Elon had seen the future and brought it back.

I think most of us on HN are building the future for a world that lives in the past and I think it's beautiful. We're trying to craft something that doesn't exist yet... but can.

Not many professions do that.

antonioevans··on The New York Times Redesign is Live
Digg overwhelming? Maybe old digg. Not new digg.
antonioevans··on Pinterest Passes Twitter In Popularity, Facebook Stays On Top
It's a Phone survey. I'll leave it at that.
antonioevans··on Show HN: Cilantro - Chat 1:1 with employees at companies you'd like to work at
that's ridiculous.
antonioevans··on Word Lens for Google Glass
What if wordlens is purchased by google and incorporated into glass. stop being so dev-pessimistic (we need a word for this).
antonioevans··on Report: 110 people own 35% of Russia's wealth
20 years of Capitalism is a small amount of time to refute a premise. They need decades more of booms, busts and bubbles till you can see the financial and political results of such socioeconomical imbalances.
antonioevans··on Tikker – The wrist watch that counts down your life
Can we level up?
antonioevans··on Tikker – The wrist watch that counts down your life
I don't believe we are reminded of this at all. People make ridiculous decisions today with no thinking of the future. It's a common fallacy on the mind. We think of our today "self" and not the grander "self" of from birth to death. If you think about the finite-ness of life you've live healthier and more productively.
antonioevans··on Bacteria from slim people could help treat obesity, study finds

antonioevans··on I like to read ALL Hackernews Comments.
but this is an inherent feature on all forum type sites. Should we all install separate scripts for each webpage we visit?
antonioevans··on The World of Black-Ops Reputation Management
A bit of self-promotion but we started a reputation management SaaS firm aimed at small/medium businesses.

http://socialdraft.com

We've been in the SMB space for a few years offering digital PR services for businesses who really don't have the tools or manpower to deal with the Web. I can't tell you how many clients we have that are pissed at Yelp or some blogger and have threaten legal action. We saw this as an opportunity because the "pain point" is real.

antonioevans··on You’re Too Cheap to Fly Faster
Someone should do a study on the lost productivity of airline travel.
antonioevans··on MTA Releases Subway Time App
Won't work in subway. No coverage.
antonioevans··on $20 Cardboard Bicycle Could 'Change The World,' Inventor Says
Very cool use of materials. I could totally see this mass produced for children learning how to ride bikes and even cities testing out the "share-a-bike" program.
antonioevans··on Entrepreneurshit
On point 100% as usual. You are focused, you are afraid, and you are resilient. One thing you do see due to the ups and downs is the future. By eating the shit in your industry you see whats going on. You know...fuck...this is going to happen in at least 3-6 months. Not saying you can do anything about it but you can be part of the "conversation".
antonioevans··on Mark Cuban: Facebook Is Driving Away Brands - Starting With Mine
As with all new ad platforms you have to test the ROI. Apparently in his businesses he didn't see the benefit and did what all good marketers would do, pull your inventory. As Facebook tweaks it's EdgeRank Algo I am sure they will figure out how to get the most "bang for the buck". If not their stock price will continue it's slide.
