I still hear your voice in the night As I lie awake I feel so lifeless now that I don't have your embrace
We should be in each others arms But we were at our throats And now we've drowned But we fought hard to stay afloat
I guess this is goodbye So let's just close our eyes I guess we don't belong Our hearts don't beat as one
I'm breaking Our world is shaking I guess this is goodbye So let's just close our eyes And say goodnight
I wish that I could go back And relive all the times That I still cherish dearly In the back of my mind
I never thought that we would have A final curtain call I guess the pieces don't fit like they did before And I know that it's not our fault So why does it hurt so bad Now we are two souls walking through no man's land
You said opposites attract But now were just the same You still live in my heart It's driving me insane
And I guess only time will tell If I can let you go But now I fear that I'm in love With the ghost of you
I guess this is goodbye So let's just close our eyes I guess we don't belong Our hearts don't beat as one
I'm breaking Our world is shaking I guess this is goodbye So let's just close our eyes And say goodnight
Here Lies Titania - The Ghost of You
I'm so tired of this trend where folk keep pitching significant reductions of technical capability as some kind of "win" for the consumers and developers of a platform.
This is about exploiting platform owner privilege, no more and no less.
Is this the new ultra-capitalism? Delay my payments so that I am forced to take on loans on unfavourable terms?
Which is why we invented DUE PROCESS.
Edit: Oh, and Rust as well :)
If anti-trust is on the table it's the government who will be deciding whose ecosystem it is and exactly who owes what to whom.
* WKWebView is the only browser engine allowed on iOS.
* Apps can only be distributed through the iOS app store.
* No formal appeals processes based on established judicial principles for either Apple or Google.
I get paid considerably more than 75% for 50% _time_. [1] Mainly because I'm in a position where I get paid by the value of my work rather than by the amount of time I waste behind a computer monitor.
[1] My bad. I should have said time instead of work.
Unless you are a unicorn or a huckster writing mobile apps is no longer an attractive business.
We provide a hybrid app development platform for mobile and over the last nine years we've watched a steady exodus of developers from the app space.
The only folk who are still relatively unaffected are the business developers.
I'd like to see an end to both overpaid CEO's and criminal activity.
This is (often) not true for word processors.
Today Iran, tomorrow who knows?
Far easier to take a couple days to move my stuff now than having to do it under duress in a year or two.
1) Pay me 2) Autonomy
Only for companies who hire for signals.
For companies that hire for throughput this does not hold.
I know it's always the first measurement that springs to mind but I can assure you there are others.
This way you can get other desired behaviours without negatively affecting your metrics.
To put it another way:
The choice of metric is also a design decision.
I obviously would not be using this (or anyone else's higher level framework!) if I was targeting an embedded platform.
What I am saying is: I think you know and you have an agenda.
If you truly don't know then this is really something you should know if you are doing the job you are saying you are doing.
To use an analogy: I would not waste my time explaining how type systems work to someone who is arguing rabidly against them in an online forum.
If they care then it's something that is so important they should actually go out and educate themselves before getting into conversations about it.
If you don't know how to do background verification on people then you have far bigger problems than your fears of being gamed.
It's _always_ been about control on the creation and manufacture of playback platforms and/or devices.
