Why submit this idiocy?

Look, I wasn't going to list out every popular open source project that doesn't use the GPL and I never claimed that there aren't useful projects that do use the GPL. I simply wanted to counter the mistaken notion that software without a GPL license sits in some small niche and all such projects have small inferior communities.

That being said, Freshmeat is a horrible way to support whatever point you were trying to make.

Fiction can be fun, but I find the reference section much more enlightening.

More of the open source world does just fine without the GPL than you'd care to admit. The various BSD projects are also doing just fine without constant hype and Slashdot announcements.

Such file systems already exist. Take a look at HFS+ and Spotlight in OS X Leopard. It is not the only example.

What if a box were provided near the top of the document with the document's current name? To rename the file you simply type the new name in the box.

Users should never really have to worry about saving. Google Docs does a good job of keeping documents saved without any need for user intervention.

If you are going to create a new site in this space it has to be at least as good as Kayak. Tripeedo fails horribly. As others have mentioned, a site that simply opens numerous windows with the results from each site is not adequate.

I don't believe that SOAP is especially popular in the Python world. Note that an XML-RPC library is included with Python, but a SOAP library is not. Most "web services" are likely done using REST.

How confident does this make you that anyone read and understood this bill before voting for it?

I think we have drastically different definitions of quality.

OS X includes Perl, Python, Ruby and AppleScript. More tools are available when Xcode (free) is installed.

He specifically mentions having experience with Oracle. This will make PostgreSQL easier to learn.

Best Buy seems to be a bit of an enigma.

On the one hand you have what is described in this 37signals article. Smashing The Clock (mentioned in the article) was written over two years ago. This is the first I'm hearing of Blue Shirt Nation.

Then we have reality. Like many others I abhor shopping at Best Buy. Every employee is required to parrot a greeting at you when you get near. They have a large collection of music, none of which will be what you are looking for unless you have an affinity for top 40 trash. Their "high end" audio gear is overpriced Bose garbage. Cashiers try to sell you warranties for $10 electronic items, offer you magazine subscriptions and online services.

I also happen to know several people who have worked at Best Buy that absolutely hated it. There are entire websites dedicated to hating Best Buy that are frequented by former Best Buy employees.

You will likely find PostgreSQL extremely easy to learn. You will probably find MySQL to be very frustrating.

I suggest a bit of both. Start with "Dijkstra style" and finish with "hacker style". Adjust levels of each as appropriate for the project you are working on.

I'd like to offer an alternative theory: no one is an expert on macroeconomics. How much agreement is there between Friedrich Hayek, Paul Krugman, Milton Friedman, John Maynard Keynes and Ludwig von Mises? Claiming that someone is "right" about economics seems akin to claiming that someone is "right" about philosophy.
