antegamisou··on Calculus with Julia
No because Matlab is never going away from the industry. Same for Python/matplotlib btw.
antegamisou··on If you’re seeing this, I’m in jail [video]
Bootlickers downvoting unsettling truths once again.
antegamisou··on GPT-4o
Ofc this was flagged by the butthurt insentient techbro bootlickers lol.
antegamisou··on GPT-4o
Thankfully I’m not as terminally online and severely socially handicapped.
antegamisou··on GPT-4o
> basic economic facts that every economics student learns in the first few months of his academic studies.

Millions of people around the world are in satisfying relationships without autistically extrapolating shitty corporate buzzword terms to unrelated scenarios.

This reply validates even more my original comment.

Maybe not even counseling is worth it in your case. You sound unsalvageable. Maybe institutionalization is a better option.

antegamisou··on GPT-4o
You need counseling if this really is your approach on forming relationships with others.
antegamisou··on GPT-4o
The entire exchange at the comments below is appalling. Didn't expect to see so many emotionally retarded people on HN.
antegamisou··on Deaf girl is cured in world first gene therapy trial
Yet shitty LLM grift research proposals receive 100x the funding compared to endeavors similar to this.

antegamisou··on AI-powered cameras installed on Metro buses to ticket illegally parked cars
Techbros always love citing the supposedly devastating human fallibility yet experience shows poorly configured/developed automated systems are much more of a concern.
antegamisou··on How to graduate your PhD when you have no hope
What about pursuing a PhD if you aren't planning to stay in academia? Would its lack bar you from industrial R&D positions? Assuming we're talking about a Computer Science/Engineering discipline.
antegamisou··on IrfanView
Along with ImageJ, that is open-source and has found use by researchers among many different disciplines, they're great examples of longstanding projects done right.
antegamisou··on Some notes on Firefox’s media autoplay settings in practice as of Firefox 124
The worst thing is those websites that have some type of 2160p type of video autoplay as a background image, making it unbrowsable on cheaper hardware devices.

But this is more a rant for modern webdev practices I'm not sure much can be done to circumvent it from a browser perspective.

antegamisou··on Why Scientists Are Calling for the Moon to Be Better Protected from Development
> people

You mean the arrogant billionaires that think they can buy everything and anything and mostly ruin them?

Cause these are the only ones that have expressed interest, instead of, you know, contributing to more menial tasks like food/water shortage, environmental protection etc.

antegamisou··on Ask HN: What things are happening in ML that we can't hear over the din of LLMs?
I wager the better question is

What things are happening in fields of, or other than, CS that we don't hear over the din of ML/AI
antegamisou··on Ask HN: What things are happening in ML that we can't hear over the din of LLMs?
> but transformers are still so new and so effective that they will probably dominate for a while.

They're mostly easy grant money and are being gamed by entire research groups worldwide to be seen as effective on the published papers. State of academia...

antegamisou··on Google's AI-powered search results are loaded with spammy, scammy garbage
No it's innovative, The Economist and MIT news said it's fuckin cool, cut it with the Luddism!! /s
antegamisou··on Florida's DeSantis signs law restricting social media for people under 16
Ah yes, I almost forgot we're talking about the US where it was OK for the state to secretly conduct mind control human experimentation for over 20 years.
antegamisou··on Florida's DeSantis signs law restricting social media for people under 16
Policy-making isn't supposed be, at least shouldn't be, some lab experiment. The hey at least we tried isn't the best reasoning for the lack of insight of those in charge.
antegamisou··on Regex character "$" doesn't mean "end-of-string"
Maybe because a fair amount of the work I do with regexes (and, probably, how I was introduced to them) is via `grep`, so I'm often thinking of the inputs as "lines" rather than "strings"?

Vim is what did that for me.

antegamisou··on Harvard concluded that a dishonesty expert committed misconduct
I think this is a great reason why one should trash all these self-improvement books by grifters with "expensive" credentials (CEO, Ivy League person etc.) and replace them with fiction works of 19th Century American/Russian literature.
antegamisou··on The internet isn't dying, it's changing
> "Dying" is an appropriate analogy because if the decline gets far enough, it may as well not exist to those people who are affected.

We need to start saying it the way we feel reluctant to do:

The Internet is getting exponentially shittier.

SEO-prioritization and poorly-regulated access to AI content generation are some of the emerging methods that help it get worse.
antegamisou··on Psychopathological Correlates of Conspiracy Beliefs
It’s very reductionist to consider the items on this list largely conspiracy theories.

> 10. New and advanced technology, which would harm the current industry, is being suppressed.

I don’t know, are you sure the folks at OpenAI, or some better-equipped competitor for that matter, haven’t came up with something more horrific than Sora?

antegamisou··on Vice website is shutting down
My thoughts as well.

It was pretty strong the first few years and rapidly declined in quality for the last 5 or so.

antegamisou··on I'm an Old Fart and AI Makes Me Sad
This is the problem that almost no one talks about. Shitty papers gaining traction just because some are better bullshitters at grant writing.
antegamisou··on Sora: Creating video from text
Feeling anything else other than concern is unpopular only on this website where most believe the entire world is cute like the nerds hanging out at the office's game room.

Nothing good is coming out of this. I don't give a shit if you believe this is Luddism.

antegamisou··on Why do people post on [bad platform] instead of [good platform]?
I'm notorious for shitting on the content reaching the front-page but as of 1706420941 it's a blast for me

antegamisou··on Brains are not required to think or solve problems – simple cells can do it
Man why do all people working the most menial tech jobs have such an obsession suggesting some shitty "research" fad in CS as a solution centuries-old complex problems in all other science fields? It's cringe, reeks ignorance and the comparisons are flat out wrong most of the time.

It's especially worse when low-quality popular science journalism promotes this notion, like this Quanta article about the human vision system working just like transformers do.

antegamisou··on Why is everything so ugly?
Very typical of the average HN pseudointellectual actually.
antegamisou··on Which word begins with "y" and looks like an axe in this picture? (2017)
> it cannot match the famous answer to the question about parsing HTML using regular expressions

Man people on SE are cringe af ngl
