But racism and stupidity are usually good friends, so that checks out.
FYI there is at least 900k+ people in France either immigrant from Marocco or with an origin and a 100k+ people with french nationality or origin living in Marocco
It's litteraly your mother tongue man, everyone outside of the elite has a mother, and therefore a mother tongue, it's not expansive, it's your basic birth right.
Why don't people consume audio/video in a foreign language ?
I'm a polyglot myself, so I enjoy that very much, but the simple truth is that most people don't invest the time for becoming fluent in other languages in countries with a "big" language. Works for France, the US, the UK, Spain, Mexico, Japan or China.
Why ? Pretty obvious. Become fluent in a foreign language is a huge effort. Making that effort really only works if you either WANT to do it or if you NEED to do it. The WANT factor is the same everywhere but the NEED to learn a language is way lower if your mother tongue is in the top 5 - or top 10 languages of the world.
The only thing that is specific to French is that French & English have this weird shared history that makes the written langauges very similar and the oral languages very different. So a frequent compromise for french speakers is to become fluent enough at reading/writing, but quite bad at hearing/speaking.
Nothing personal, I would say the same thing for Henry Ford, a huge antisemite.

The title is indeed clickbait, but it is not scambait. Clickbait is when you want the reader interested in reading things, which is normal, scambait is when you do that but you have no points behind made after that.
Here are the points made by the article and what I think of them :
- Much more things can be improved than we think possible (100% true - obviously we can't to them all at once, but we don't need to.)
- We don't need a new plan, we already have plans (True, for example you can take the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations as a starting point).
- Coordination matters (And is possible, the UN had lead the historic achievment to eradicate fucking polio)
- We have enough resources to act in the real world, but the way we make decisions is broken (True, Elon Musk spent an insane amount of money to make a dumb website worse, while US Foreign Aid #1 top priority is to help the government of Israel commits more crimes with no accountability)
- Things will not change until a determined group of people take action (100% true, this is how every progress ever has worked out)
A proper vcs for documentation is what Wikipedia does.
You always see the latest version of a document and you can see the changes to that document, revert and follow renames.
No global history, no commits of multiple files, no manual pull/push, no branches, no CI, no pr, no rewrite of history, no multiple remotes, etc etc etc
There has been much more efforts than that in desktop linux.
Yet NeXT delivered a mostly coherent programming platform, back in the 1990s.
One thing NeXT didn't do is to introduce shitloads of useless complexity with fragmentation for the sake of it and half assed solutions on top of that.
But no, this time, it was about the welfare state doing its job, doing it mostly well, with details that were more impressive than I anticipated, and also opening its data to external analysts to continue improve it.
That was quite an emotional ride !
git doesn't suck. It's the best possible version control system in the context where it was produced, i.e. the Linux Kernel, i.e. an ultra large bazaar style project with hundreds of developers gifted at getting the low level details right.
It was not however designed for the kind of projects I work on, more Cathedral style, a few people who know and trust each other, where learnability, usability, and just not getting in the way are important factors.
The SQLite people have a concurrent to git called fossil. I found their description of why they started and maintain the project incredibly interesting
If you believe it, it's not a lie!
Seriously, having Slack as the go-to-option of your team communication is a terrible idea.
There is a reason why we have multiple communication medium.
Public articles - Pull requests - Issue trackers - Internal Wiki - Emails - Chat - Phone calls - Visio - Face to face
They all have pros and cons in any particular situation and we need to reflect which communication medium to use when.
But Slack made group chat so addictive that in many companies all the other communication medium became second-class citizens.
So we have hours longs Slack discussions that spare us minutes of reading a wiki page or discussing on a phone call.
For example Jordan Peterson went on stage to say somethink (not exact quote) like: "Elon Musk wow. He wanted to built an electric car which is basically impossible and yet he went on, nobody thought he would be possible and he went on to fouund Tesla and now it works".
In real life though the first electric car was invented in 1881, because electricity and fossil fuels have always been the two obvious sources of energy for making a car.
Elon Musk wasn't the founder of Tesla, he bought it. He played a role sure. But obviously, painfully so, he didn't do the Tesla engineering alone. Tesla in fact pays shitloads of engineers to do the engineering. And Tesla is just one company making electric cars. Elon Musk brought the hype, the money, sometimes the right decisions, sometimes the wrong decisions, sometimes the toxic workplace. And he got lots of money from big government.
And sociology taught us you don't have to be rich when you start your career. But that it sure helps a lot when you have no shortage of money, good education, you are a dude, your mother tongue is english, you know the right people, you are an illegal alien but that's okay because you come from a white supremacist country, and you happen to be here during the california gold rush, I mean the silicon valley in the 90s.
When you check all those boxes, you are much more likely to become a "self made man"
