anony999··on Thunderbird 102
If you run a business you need it (i.e. the accountant is asking you to resend invoice number xyz)
anony999··on FTC Sues Walmart for Facilitating Money Transfer Fraud
So the customers should be considered criminals until proven otherwise...smart FTC
anony999··on Thunderbird 102
This looks great! The only reason I didn't fully migrate to Thunderbird yet is the search feature which seems to be lacking in some areas compared with the mail.app
anony999··on Tell HN: Coinbase now requires physical address of recipient in crypto transfers
why would you keep your crypto on "Coinbase" wallet? People deserve to have their funds frozen indefinitely a'la PayPal mode. "crypto" currency was about "owning" your money not handing it into a paypal-like walled garden.
anony999··on The Bitcoin Crash Is Taking El Salvador's Big Bet with It
I can't blame El Salvador for trying to get rich...They acted like a retail investor. The crash is painful.

That being said 50% crash on "its currency" may not be uncommon. I believe Turkey's currency has had a similar devaluation.

anony999··on Apple Passkey
TOTP is prone to phishing. Not to mention that you still need a password so it's both insecure and hard to use. You could ague that "When used correctly, password are a fairly great solution " but as passwords are flawed they are exploited and even the "experts" happen to fall victims to "improper" use of passwords.
anony999··on Apple Passkey
>> Apple has described Passkey as a new kind of credential in the iCloud keychain. The technology is based on the Web Authentication API (WebAuthn), a rapidly emerging standard that uses public key cryptography instead of passwords for authenticating users to websites and applications.

Whatever "based on webauthn" means...Let's hope it's not just a buggy implementation of WebAuthn as they did with OpenID Connect

anony999··on Telegram has released user data to German Feds in multiple cases
>> In a nutshell, this is considered a turning point because Telegram's official stance is (even today) that they don't share data, not even with any government.

If you care about your privacy the "official stance" alone is close to worthless. That includes governments and corporations as well. I think we already learned that. Just like on security you need in defense in depth on privacy(i.e. hardware, software, and "official policy" as well).

anony999··on Bill Ackman loses $400M dumps entire Netflix stake after just 3 months
>> One of the most viral pictures in my area a few weeks ago was photoshopped movie poster "A Netflix original" with "Zelens'kjy" as movie name and a black guy with a M16 as the main character.

I would not be surprised to see a netflix remake of the original movie just like that. Perhaps the main character would also have a more "diverse" sexual orientation. It's really that all the movies I've watched recently on netflix play the same note. They seem to produce movies just to tick some boxes.
