Isn't that stock market a prediction market?
anonu··on There are now more ETFs than stocks in the US
TSLA was a $60bn company when Musk made his equity milestone deal in 2018. He had a 10 year horizon to 10x TSLA to $650bn. He did it in 2.

SPCX is maybe $1.25tr now - and he has a similar equity milestone deal to just 5x to $7.5tr. Its a big number. For comparison, NVDA is already $5.2tr+

So my guess is people will assume any investment in SPCX will be a 5x return in a short period of time.

Also a company this large will get swept into many indexes, including the S&P500 - so most investors will own it by default.

anonu··on There are now more ETFs than stocks in the US
It's an irrelevant point because ETFs incorporate more than just US stocks. You have global stocks (tens of thousands), options (a million expirations), bonds (3 million cusips) , crypto, futures, and the list goes on. And it becomes a combinatorial exercise...

The article is pointing out the lack of publicly listed companies in the USA. But we also have private stock in ETFs now. And not to mention a handful of blockbuster IPOs on the horizon, like SPCX.

Lots of comments saying it looks ugly. I don't agree. But the $650,000 price tag is not pretty - that I can agree on. I know people will pay that.

anonu··on TorQ: Kdb+ Production Framework
This used to be aquaq. What happened?

I liked this framework when I used it years ago but I've become disillusioned with kdb.

I can ask Claude to write specialized rust based tick processing tools so quickly now. So the baseline use case for kdb is eroded away, at least for me.

I love kdb as a distributed services framework. But if I can write it with redis and python with Claude support in all the boilerplate I'm more likely to go that route.

anonu··on Setting up a free *.city.state.us locality domain (2025)
There's almost no real privacy online in the US. When I search for my name my phone number and almost every address I've ever lived at it is publicly retrievable - on multiple sites. Even with a private WHOIS I get spam from various companies via my registrar asking to speak to me about making a website.
anonu··on Redstone – a faster PortfoliosLab with a one-click portfolio optimizer
Looks cool at first glance. But these things are nearly impossible to monetize. I've tried... Many of these tools are out there and free. The limited history will cause a lot of users to run into roadblocks. There's over 5000 US listed ETFs now. Any serious back test will include the dot com bubble, the GFC and COVID market shocks, and much more. Looking at the last 5 years seriously biases your portfolio.
anonu··on David Attenborough's 100th Birthday
Ultimately, it speaks to people's lifestyle choices. In the US people are used to a particular standard of living: driving big cars and eating big steaks. If you tell people you can't have those things, they will have a visceral reaction. Politicians caught wind of this and turned it into a divisive left vs right debate. Im oversimplifying, but at the core its an incentives problem: Why should I tighten my belt today for some future payoff I may not even be around to see?
anonu··on Poland is now among the 20 largest economies
Worked with many Polish developers for the last 8 years. Great group, very talented. However, the initial motivations to go there were to keep costs low. Eventually they saw their salaries increase 3x or 4x over the years. They totally deserved it, but the economics change if you're running a startup. Now with AI, not clear if the tech outsourcing dynamic will remain.

anonu··on If America's so rich, how'd it get so sad?
Does it matter? Most people need a car in the US. But if cars are marketed and designed for the 10%, this squeezes out everyone else.
anonu··on If America's so rich, how'd it get so sad?
The earlier NYT article on the topic was interesting: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/26/opinion/economy-attitudes...

It was succinctly put: the top 10% of earners - those making 250k or more - do 50% of the spending. If you're a company with a product or service, are you going to cater to the 90% or the affluent 10%? Clearly the latter - so as a result the bottom 90% of the country just feels like they're "keeping up with the Joneses" all the time.

Probably a lot of hand-wavy behavioral economics here and I am sure the answer to "Why are we so sad" is more complex...

Unfortunately the international rule of law died many years ago allowing these war crimes to continue unabated.
anonu··on Over-editing refers to a model modifying code beyond what is necessary
Here, the author means the agent over-edits code. But agents also do "too much": as in they touch multiple files, run tests, do deployments, run smoke tests, etc... And all of this gets abstracted away. On one hand, its incredible. But on the other hand I have deep anxiety over this:

1. I have no real understanding of what is actually happening under the hood. The ease of just accepting a prompt to run some script the agent has assembled is too enticing. But, I've already wiped a DB or two just because the agent thought it was the right thing to do. I've also caught it sending my AWS credentials to deployment targets when it should never do that.

2. I've learned nothing. So the cognitive load of doing it myself, even assembling a simple docker command, is just too high. Thus, I repeatedly fallback to the "crutch" of using AI.

anonu··on Tracking when Trump chickens out
Well the problem is the rabid left wing nuts all have TDS. So anything Trump does can only be viewed through one lens. To be fair this is sort of par for the course when you're in a position of power. You can never please everyone.

Now on the opposite extreme, the MAGA sycophants, Trump can do nothing wrong, and every misstep is positioned as some sort of 4D chess move we are all too dumb to understand.

If there weren't real lives at stake it would be funny.

The real issue here is we have a divisive person in power who revels in the chaos and the fighting.

anonu··on Claude Design
As long as tokens cost less than humans people will pay for them. If you're human you need to differentiate yourself bigly from what will quickly become mainstream AI slop.
anonu··on The buns in McDonald's Japan's burger photos are all slightly askew
I remember in India's McDonalds there was a Maharaja Burger. In Lebanon they have falafel on the menu. This Japanese menu looks really enticing to be honest.
anonu··on Israel Destroys Villages in Lebanon
As a Lebanese, this is deeply saddening. Israel is trying to exact some sort of "lesson" on the Lebanese. I don't want to blame everything on Israel, but the fact that Lebanon is a weak country unable to rein in Hezbollah is very strongly influenced by the US need to make Israel a hegemon in the region. And the vicious cycle continues ... As a Lebanese I feel helpless. And this type of situation only emboldens the "resistance" which in turns justifies Israels actions in Lebanon. It's never ending and we're done with it ...

anonu··on The Pentagon Threatened Pope Leo XIV's Ambassador with the Avignon Papacy
There is a lot to source from Christian ideals, many of which are the foundations of Western culture: human dignity, moral equality, conscience, limits on power and care for those less fortunate and weaker. Much of what is happening in the world today feels like a stark reversal of those ideals: selfishness and divisiveness manufactured to promote a narrow segment of society.

Recent news articles have indicated an increase in church attendance. This makes sense: we have lost our moral compass... Specifically in the USA... And people are searching for a new direction.

anonu··on LinkedIn uses 2.4 GB RAM across two tabs
Many people use it.

But let’s be honest…

it’s not just a social media platform.

It’s a mindset. A daily ritual. A lifestyle. A place where every thought becomes a “lesson”

...

Contributors can lay out their every boring thought in strange staccato posts.

Every now and then there are genuinely interesting things happening in your industry you can learn about.

But you have to suffer through the fake team building and work family dribble.

anonu··on Treason in the Futures Markets
"Treason" is a bit hyperbolic. Futures are governed a bit differently around MNPI versus equities - based on CFTC rules. If the MNPI was obtained through a duty breach then it still "might" be illegal. Most futures MNPI enforcements have been around energy data or FOMC announcements. But its usually noticed due to consistent, repeated patterns. A one-off event like this, while egregious, is probably not going to be chased. Not saying thats right... I am just saying the grift will continue...
