5 months ago when the Lion Air crash happened, an HN commenter ridiculed me for saying Boeing made a crappy design choice to automate what pilots already did manually, without telling the pilots. The HN commenter basically said "we here at Boeing are working hard, how dare you"
well, now more people are dying. do we dismiss them as collateral damage from the "third world", or do we own up to the problem created by a poor design choice?
Now that journalists are being told to learn how to code to pay their bills, it is controversial.
Needs more shrill screaming and the amplifier needs to be roboticized to run circles around them, of course.

>fringe outlet
Ohhhhh my god come on. The world's largest podcast isn't a fringe outlet. I don't even like Joe Rogan's commentary but his guests are great.
That would make me move, at least!
>"I believe in freedom of movement between EU nations"
Schengen areas are still true freedom of movement.
I am an American citizen and think all electronic visas are a silly pain in the ass, but are better than traditional visas which require mailing your passport somewhere.
The world should strive for true freedom of movement for all people. Show up in person, walk through customs like everyone else regardless of passport.
ETIAS is therefore a regression from the norm. But, Vietnam used to be paper visa only, and now is E-visa. So that one is progress.
If someone doesn't want to accept those, I will find someone who will.
I can't wait 26 minutes for a tx to confirm
"Extort everyone for obscene license fees because we currently can, and force them to buy cloud credits they'll never use because Amazon."
However, I recently had to do a risk assessment for myself for Japanese Encephalitis, which is a $400-800 vaccine that only has a few years of effective dosage at best, and has a mortality rate of 16,000 per year out of 4 billion exposed.
If there's any chance that the vaccine has some type of chemical or substance that would cause an adverse effect in me, even if it was free, I would take my chances without the vaccine.
Similarly, I haven't received a tetanus shot in decades, despite really wanting to. I simply don't have the money because I don't have insurance, but I feel the risks of the vaccine are worth the benefit of not having tetanus.
Cost of in person sales force: 100M
Cost of in person returns: 4M
vs
Cost of online only sales force: 4M
Cost of online only returns: 20M
And they realized they could save a ton of money and complexity while only inconveniencing a few more people than usual
It's time to walk away soon :)
Is productivity low in gross Euro terms? The Greek cost of living is certainly cheaper than most countries, but a loaf of bread is a loaf of bread anywhere you go.
Humans find ways to divide people based on any random parameter of millions-- they are exclusionary creatures ONLY until the point where they need goods or services from someone else-- then suddenly race and religion don't seem very important in that moment
When displaying your non-Han-ness becomes something that will lead to you being imprisoned or denied jobs/housing/food, gradually all that will remain is Han.
The bulk of my budget goes to rent, car, and food :(
Being Swiss, you give the American government too much credit. The government absolutely does not care about safety.
