anon012012··on Imagen Video: high definition video generation with diffusion models
My opinion is that it should be a crime to withhold AI technology.
anon012012··on AI Seamless Texture Generator Built-In to Blender
I'm currently trying to put 1000x wallpaper seamless textures into UE5 Marketplace. I'm saddened to see this news.^^. Well, fuck money anyway right? Here's a tip, you can produce all you need if you follow this guide:

https://rentry.org/voldy#-guide-

Just check what this stuff can do:

https://github.com/AUTOMATIC1111/stable-diffusion-webui/wiki...

This is the best page on the internet right now. The hottest stuff. Better than Bitcoin.

You can get guidance and copy business ideas here: https://lexica.art/ https://laion-aesthetic.datasette.io/laion-aesthetic-6pls/im... http://stable-diffusion-guide.s3-website-us-west-2.amazonaws...

For textures: Once you have generated the color map (diffuse) from StableDiffusion, you can use CrazyBump to BATCH create the normal map and displacement map. I'm currently at my 200th file iteration. http://www.crazybump.com/ CrazyBump, all the cool kids are using it.

Now this is where I'm at. Call me crazy. I'm forgetting stuff surely, but it's the best I can do. Go and change the world.

PS: You can Batch Upscale the 512 to beautiful 2k+ with this link: https://github.com/xinntao/Real-ESRGAN

anon012012··on Julian Assange can be extradited to the US, court rules
Having hidden agendas and hidden organizations is an act of War and government officials should be dealt with the harshest sanction for the crime of Treason to Humanity. I'm not even trolling, and I'm not even started.
anon012012··on Nvidia releases Alias-Free GAN code and pre-trained models, naming it StyleGAN3
I know HN doesn't like hype, but as an AI neophyte, I find this incredible. Nvidia is doing it again. This is likely going to help with 3D generation, the next cornerstone. Imagine that we are solving the problems so fast.
anon012012··on Ask HN: What are you learning?
Rhetoric, sophistry, debating. Politics. The goal is to establish UBI before the end of the year. If I had been smart enough I would have specialized in AI.

I think there's untapped potential for techies and scientists to infiltrate the political landscape.

I don't think I'll ever be famous but I'm arguing everyday and pushing hard for people to fight for themselves, and to push the ideas.

anon012012··on How are you managing stress?
I'm going to raise eyebrows, but I don't believe in ego. I will always be fighting, because we are everyone and everything.

We are one universal consciousness, illusioned into multiple perspectives.

There is the same void between neurons than between each other... It is ontologically connected!

We have a responsibility to preserve the truth and its hypotheses, and to protect our fellows. Stress is a luxury.

Use this time to have people reflect. We need universal income, meat ban, befriending the Chinese, remote work, virtual classrooms at least for bullies and bullied, low-speed lightweight low-cost electric vehicles (maybe with a ban on SUV), more renewable energy, scientific cooperative conglomerate, destroy the anti-intellectualism, protect the low-intellect from a life of shaming, then stop over-production... There is a lot to do while people are bored home. I hope people here can suggest more things to do! It is time for change. Be brave

anon012012··on Handbook of Covid-19 Prevention and Treatment from Hospital with 0% fatality [pdf]
I'm sorry if it's slightly off topic, but could we 3D print plastic masks? It seems they could at least protect from the biggest droplets. Better than nothing, I would say. Even we could create a transparent full facial mask, protecting the eyes.
anon012012··on Show HN: Moving from a desktop hologram lab to a 3D hologram printer
You could print many frames from a video, and then if you move them fast, you'll have the illusion of a holographic video.
anon012012··on Towards a conversational agent that can chat about anything
Since every comment in this thread seems deriding or downplaying for some reason, let me say that I am impressed by the progress, and that any progress at all is still a very important step, and pushing the envelope. We're getting closer and closer, and I love what I've seen from transformer, and from this!
anon012012··on Things that I think will be important in the next decade
This is unpopular to say, but when we're heading for a mass extinction event, maybe we should be sacrificing freedom for the sake of social cohesion. There should be facial recognition, social score and such things, to preserve humanity from chaos. I think there's a decent case to be made, and that's why I generally appreciate what China is doing. They are the best prepared for what might come.
anon012012··on The euro is a disaster even for the countries that do everything right
I think it's because of language.

If there was one official European language, as primary, it would be easier to unite the people. Language is the greatest divider. Just look at Belgium, or Spain/Catalonia, France/Corsica, it is still dividing people.

I don't even think Google Translate would help, because it could well be mainly the result of different languages causing different systems of thought.

anon012012··on Superheroes a 'cultural catastrophe', says comics guru Alan Moore (2014)
The murdered are gone, and the raped are at the theaters, watching it, and experiencing it again. This is cruelty in the name of entertainment.

He's right there's value in making the issue visible. But if he was really concerned, he'd think about it deeper, and maybe ask the opinion of related associations, weigh the pros and the cons of inflicting psychological harm.

No, I think it's just that he likes the beauty of evil. It's just a tool in his box to make mature art for mature people who are beyond superheroes, and beyond good and evil.

But he's an artist, and I don't blame him. (I blame Obama)

anon012012··on Show HN: Arrow Hero
Got 1650 by tapping, then 3600 holding the keys. I think it's pretty boss to go beyond 4000 out of the blue, in 3 tries or so, though it depends on the random patterns. I had an easy streak around ~3000, then a confusing series. Consecutive Up/Down are harder than Right/Left, because of finger movement.

It would be nice with asdf, homerow style. Maybe you could even have 2 rings going on at the same time, for each homerow.

anon012012··on Inceptionism: Going Deeper into Neural Networks

anon012012··on A YouTube built for gamers
It's like butchers and supermarkets... The butchers, they can't compete. It seems doomed to be centralized. They're not creating another service as much as they're organizing their supermarket.
anon012012··on How two men survived a prison where 12,000 were killed
I'd say the spread of democracy.

Viewing it as superior to fundamentalism, or whateverism, and going to other nations, changing their way to be, maybe even just supporting the change... It's colonialism, revisited.

It could well be that putting an end to Pol Pot was evil in itself... Maybe his utopia would have succeeded, but we'll never know. I'm going to make people angry, but it's the way it is. Maybe it would have been more viable, long term, than our free capitalism. Maybe, for him, it was for the greater good.

Actually, I know little about the story, or politics, I'm just thinking out loud, and inciting people to think. His utopia reminds me of the Unabomber's manifesto. Anyway, I don't believe in utopias. It's all black and white, and it's all trade-offs.

All I know is that we're very careful not to contaminate Mars, when we send a robot, but when it comes to other nations, it seems we contaminate as much as we can.

anon012012··on John Nash Has Died
I didn't feel sad, but reading that paper I feel something which knows no name. It is between respect, appreciation for beauty, and the need to do some maths. It isn't griefful, but it is truthful, and surely M.Nash would have liked it truthful.
anon012012··on Be Kind
I agree with the idea, maybe, but not the phrasing. You're quick to judge people you don't know, and shame them when they have the courage of sharing. At the end of the day, his post is on the front page, and it's doing good.
anon012012··on Be Kind
This is why I use :3

It makes me look stupid, so it can only be a sincere smile. Or maybe I'm just stupid... Well to be fair, we're discussing the psychology of smileys.

I have a theory about ":)", that people use it when there's a discrepancy between what they say and what they think, through the same mechanism of humor (which is also about discrepancies). And so in general, I don't trust people who use it strangely. But now, they're all going to use :3... We're doomed.

anon012012··on China's Man-On-the-Side Attack on GitHub
I think because it is more a consequence of human nature than governmental activity (though in some measure they're intertwined, and so it's hard to say objectively).
anon012012··on Ask HN: Who are your favorite poets?
I love it, mostly Rumi. It's like motivational poetry, for the nerds from 800 years ago.

“If you are irritated by every rub, how will your mirror be polished?” - Rumi

  “Sit, be still, and listen,
  because you're drunk
  and we're at
  the edge of the roof.”
  ― Rumi
anon012012··on Ask HN: Who are your favorite poets?
Yes, I'm French and I agree. The message is well translated, but the original is made with much more precision, and it is more gracious. But English has some nice poetry, I like Whitman and e. e. cummings. When it comes to French, I'd recommend this classic from Victor Hugo, Tomorrow at dawn, it's simple but human, and the translation is fair, it's dedicated to his daughter: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/972635-tomorrow-at-dawn-the...

There's also this poem of Baudelaire about female homosexuality, which I like, Damned women, also called Delphine and Hippolyta. His whole book "Les fleurs du mal" (The Flowers of Evil) was heresy at the time (1860), it was about the beauty of evil, well, in part. There are English versions there but it's not easy to translate: http://fleursdumal.org/poem/180

anon012012··on The User Is Drunk
Typically you prefix "Show HN:" in the title, if showing your own product. Maybe because this is a place for news, primarily, and so it's not humble to link your own product as a news, but you can ask for community feedback with the prefix.
anon012012··on Mike Ey, Microsoft HoloLens designer, killed in hit and run
Because the land is cheap, it is generally easier to expand and drive, and also because the US auto industry is 3 million jobs directly, 13 million indirectly, 2nd biggest auto industry on the planet, and so politically I guess it would cause problems to push for biking cities.
anon012012··on Show HN: Ghostnote – Contextual notes and todo app
Sorry to be slightly off topic but we could imagine the browser adapting to the context, too. There'd be a dropdown menu to select for example "Photoshop context", then it changes tabs according to the open project, and remembers them between sessions.
anon012012··on The new Google Contacts
It's possible my monitor brightness is wrong (nevermind, you're right, I see it now), and thanks for the feedback and sharing tips.
anon012012··on Show HN: Ghostnote – Contextual notes and todo app
I thought it should be integrated in the OS, applications would set the context through the API. Software like this reads the context and manages the notes. That's to say I had a good impression, and I hope to see it on Windows one of these days.
anon012012··on The new Google Contacts
It's probably more a matter of simplifying the look, having portraits first.

If we're trying to one-up Google at design, here's my probably-lame attempt, using the bevel to have the cake and eat it too, hopefully. http://i.imgur.com/X4LQD03.png (I changed the names)

I guess it's still less pretty, I don't know.

anon012012··on Privacy is at a crossroads. Choose wisely
Sometimes I think privacy is bound to die because of nuclear bombs. What stops a country sneaking bombs into another? We need total knowledge of what's in the city. But maybe I'm wrong, I haven't thought it through.
anon012012··on The Superfish Funder List
They're all in computer vision, machine learning, ect... I doubt they helped for more than the visual search engine.
