andyhmltn··on JavaScript in 2015
You didn't link to it and it's still pretty irrelevant to the original discussion.
andyhmltn··on With New Ad Platform, Facebook Opens Gates to Its Vault of User Data
Yeah I don't even look at them anymore. They feel like they aren't targeted to me at all. I get adverts for tax rebates for uniformed workers (I work as a web developer which is listed on my profile) and 'Barclay's investment opportunities' despite having neither the time nor money at the moment to invest in anything.
andyhmltn··on Billionaire must let public access Martins Beach, judge rules
>The freedom to roam, or everyman's right is the general public's right to access certain public or privately owned land for recreation and exercise. The right is sometimes called the right of public access to the wilderness or the right to roam.

Not quite sure what it's like in other countries, but here in the UK we have 'public paths' that sometimes go through private land. You're well within your rights to use them at any time of day even though it's private.

andyhmltn··on I'm Leaving Mojang
Now you mention it, it's actually really similar isn't it? I've been following him since I originally bought my alpha version of minecraft and he's always seemed to be the way he portray's himself in this article. A nice genuine guy that just loves hacking away at things.
andyhmltn··on Apple Pay
Well, they would have to steal your thumb as well. That's the whole point: It's encrypted using TouchID
andyhmltn··on Apple Pay
Apple doesn't store the card details on their servers. So that's irrelevant.
andyhmltn··on Tabnabbing: A New Type of Phishing Attack (2010)
Because it's not using anything special. It's just checking when you are inactive and then changing the favicon/title and HTML. Three things which you should be able to do on any site. I'm struggling to think of how this could possibly be prevented
andyhmltn··on Innovative UI
Personally, I wouldn't say it's 'innoavative.' The whole point of designing a UI is not to make things fancy and bounce around and look pretty. The point is to make something that's easy to use and clear. I don't think this site fits either.

It's nice looking though!

andyhmltn··on Show HN: NodeGear – Node.js hosting on Docker
Awesome :) Nice product!
andyhmltn··on Dyson 360 Eye
It seems heavily inspired by the recent Apple Mac Pro page redesign which is dissected here:

https://ihatetomatoes.net/apple-mac-pro-page-deconstructed/

Personally, I hate this kind of design as it breaks the scroll but it's interesting to see how it works none-the-less

andyhmltn··on Ask HN: What's your best startup idea that you're not going to pursue?
Possibly better fit for TV. Although it's usually no problem, I can imagine that cinemas would get really anxious about people taking pictures of a moving they are watching
andyhmltn··on Introducing split diffs
You can by adding .patch to the end of a commit URL. For example:

https://github.com/andyhmltn/cherry-js/commit/3be55a2d6dab8e...

andyhmltn··on Show HN: NodeGear – Node.js hosting on Docker
Hey, just a heads up: That link is set to private. I get a message saying 'You need permission This form can only be viewed by users in the owner's organisation.'
andyhmltn··on Ask HN: How can I enjoy my job?
Why not speak to your boss and explain this? Come in earlier but leave earlier as well. You still do your standard 8 hours, but just at different times.
andyhmltn··on Watch the Rosetta rendezvous
Is there anywhere to read up on the theory behind all this stuff? It's always fascinated me!
andyhmltn··on Recommending music on Spotify with deep learning
I've had a similar experience. At one point the radio was 90% Childish Gambino despite only having one of his songs in my playlist
andyhmltn··on Goodbye to Sasha Shulgin, Godfather of Psychedelics
But be careful, know what you're taking and do your research. Psychedelics are very powerful drugs. If you use them correctly you'll have a good experience overall but in the same light things can and do go wrong
andyhmltn··on UK to allow driverless cars on public roads in January
If you look at Google Maps (at least on the desktop,) there's usually directional indicators on odd roads and in any directions in the UK you'll notice how the blue line goes clockwise around roundabouts instead of counter-clockwise like our friends in the rest of the world
andyhmltn··on UK to allow driverless cars on public roads in January
No he's saying the opposite. The UK does have a lot of narrow bending rounds and tiny country lanes :)
andyhmltn··on Don't link to line numbers in GitHub
Woops! My bad
andyhmltn··on Don't link to line numbers in GitHub
Is it not possible to link to line numbers in that commit? I know you can link to specific files in the commits
andyhmltn··on Show HN: Download organizer for Mac
Nice application! Just a note though: The first images you see on the homepage are pretty low resolution so it looks really distorted
andyhmltn··on GitHub investigating a major service outage
Why does this stuff always rise to the top? If Github is down, most people will already know and be using the status page
andyhmltn··on Show HN: Bvckup 2 – Simple Fast Backup for Windows
UI isn't just what's on the page. It's also what isn't. If you look at the authors WIP you'll actually see how much it's been refined over time :) Very simple but powerful is the intention
andyhmltn··on How every smartphone platform gets the alarm clock wrong
I hate the one on iPhone. The first few times I used it I was caught in a daze trying to figure out how to turn the thing off.
andyhmltn··on A Server Naming Scheme
I actually had this problem a while ago but now I use a script I wrote:

https://github.com/andyhmltn/frosty-meadow

To generate one during the setup of the server automatically

andyhmltn··on Show HN: PennyWhale – Use natural language to search for any financial data
Looks pretty cool but I get the rails error page with this query:

how much cash does $APPL have vs $GOOG

andyhmltn··on Show HN: Hacker News Redesign
It's a nice idea, but I think the ratings squares are way too distracting and don't provide any additional functionality to warrant that much of a distraction IMO
andyhmltn··on Xiki: An amazing shell
I believe this is it isn't it? https://github.com/trogdoro/xiki
andyhmltn··on Show HN: Never lose a website again
