andrewclunn··on Fixing Monopoly
So you made Talisman?
andrewclunn··on Facebook Messenger now lets you privately share your Live Location for an hour
Now the ultimate infidelity app, Facebook Messenger to soon become the ultimate blackmail app too!
andrewclunn··on We like impostor stories because we’re afraid we’re impostors (2016)
Hmmm, I think the term "hack" might be better. Wariness of the Dunning Kruger effect does not an imposter make.
andrewclunn··on Interview with Philip Zimbardo of the Stanford Prison Experiment
Except none of that speaks to the flawed nature of the experiment. This is ideological junk that refuses to die.
andrewclunn··on How Subtle Class Cues Can Backfire on a Resume (2016)
Something I never implied couldn't be done, but which others do, by virtue of attacking any offering such practical advice.
andrewclunn··on How Subtle Class Cues Can Backfire on a Resume (2016)
You can't change the direction of the wind, but you can adjust your sails. Practical advice about how the world works always pisses off people who are more interested in bitching about how unfair it is.
andrewclunn··on How Subtle Class Cues Can Backfire on a Resume (2016)
If you want to be judged based on your ability rather than people's biases or your appearance, avoid "soft sill" professions. Just a word of advice.
andrewclunn··on Angular 4.0.0 Now Available
I just want to say thank you for angular 2. I still code in 1 mind you, but now that ecosystem is stable and mature, and I can just get my stuff done while ignoring all the hip trends.
andrewclunn··on Text Editor Performance Comparison
Hell, when I open up common javascript libraries (which should be the most closest thing to native considering that Atom is an electron app) I often have issues.
andrewclunn··on Privacy issues with the “Hugging Face” chatbot for teens
It's not a pic fool. Take a pic from the keyboard!
andrewclunn··on My township calls my lawn ‘a nuisance’ (2015)
Where this piece loses me is when it starts advocating for a science based approach to setting standards for our lawns. I don't want to replace the suburban housewife lawn police with a new eco-centric version. Can't we just couch the argument in live and let live individual property rights? That way you can have your tall grass, they can have their trimmed shrubs, and we set out values at an individual and personal level rather than as a community.
andrewclunn··on Outsmarted
For an article so concerned with intelligence and our evaluation and relationship to it (as a society), this article seems to purposefully remain outdated. It focuses on pre genetic views of eugenics and heritability and couches its arguments in literature as truth, or blatantly false assertions (such as the heritability of intelligence being negligible). Unconvincing.
andrewclunn··on Animista: a collection of ready to use CSS animations
There are a list of div objects (with the class "anim-object"). The one with the active class is the one displayed. The site uses onclick events to change the classes and stylings of the divs to trigger the events. Open developer tools or view source. It's clearly meant to be agnostic as to the triggering event for the various animations.
andrewclunn··on Why I’m throwing out React and going back to Angular 1.x
Angular 1: I'll just put all my dependencies in a libs folder so that I don't have to track the node modules folder in my repo.

Angular 2 + tyepescript: Nope. All must be compiled on the fly from the node modules directory. So sayeth the Google.

---

Angular 1: Oh look, stable production ready versions of all the external libraries I need.

Angular 2: Coming soon...

---

Hacker News Comments: Oh somebody prefers Angular 1 to Angular 2? Must be because they're stupid and hate learning new things.

andrewclunn··on Password Rules Are Bullshit
mysecretpassword > Ae2!_jT7

from a security standpoint. I hate the required special characters BS, especially since other sites will explicitly restrict you from using those same characters. Seriously, without a password manager of some kind I don't know how people can function online.

andrewclunn··on Software engineers have figured out how to turn charts into music for the blind
I'm holding out for the pie charts that are tasty, relationship charts that make it through the tough times, and line charts that get me high as fuck!
andrewclunn··on People have no idea which sciences are robust
Ironically, polling and association studies like this would be something I'd classify as low precision.
andrewclunn··on When Factory Jobs Vanish, Men Become Less Desirable Partners
Wait, what? In a world where the population keeps increasing, automation is and will continue to drive unemployment, and environmental destruction is rampant... you're concerned that we're going to die out for lack of breeding?
andrewclunn··on Exam Credit for Knowing What You Do Not Know
I'm upvoting all the comments people didn't make.
andrewclunn··on Leaked Snapchat emails: Anti-gun group told to pay or NRA ads may appear
Well I for one was bothered to find out that snapchat would give away ads through their news decision to such a political advocacy group.
andrewclunn··on A list of movies about hacking
Or you can just watch this:

andrewclunn··on Comparing ancient and modern genomes for cognitive ability variants
Physical sure (so far as strength and endurance). Mental though, no way. Because in a populated area the competition isn't nature, it's other human beings, and outsmarting them is key.
andrewclunn··on ‘I must fundamentally change and grow up’: Uber CEO Travis Kalanick’s apology
I think everyone gets one of these. You clearly screw up, you admit to it, and you say you'll fix it (as long as it's not a clearly vicious screw up with irreversible effects).
andrewclunn··on The Brilliance of Dwarf Fortress (2011)
This. The UI is the final step. Right now it's about experimentation and determining the ideal game mechanics. The obtuseness means that the most obsessive and hard core are your play testers. This is a bad UI as part of good game design for what the current goals for dwarf fortress are.
andrewclunn··on DNA tests show Subway sandwiches could contain just 50% chicken
Why would you mislead me Jared? I trusted you!
andrewclunn··on Facts about migration and crime in Sweden
Nobody is interested in generalized studies about immigration or 25 year statistical trends. They want to know what's happened in the last two years or so since the refugee crisis started. So much of what is put forward here just doesn't apply, and blatantly so, that I assume motivated reasoning.
andrewclunn··on Seven earth-sized planets discovered circling a star 39 light years from Earth
Revolve around. Sorry, had to.
andrewclunn··on Seven earth-sized planets discovered circling a star 39 light years from Earth
They're only one Kessel Run away!
andrewclunn··on NASA to Host News Conference on Discovery Beyond Our Solar System
That depends on the seismic activity of the exoplanet.
andrewclunn··on Creating photorealistic images with neural networks and a Gameboy Camera
"I was robbed!"

"We'll put out a call."

"Don't you want to know what he looked like?"

"That's okay, we've got a likely composite sketch on file."
