andrewclunn··on Google Stadia shuts down internal studios, changing business focus
How dare you express a personal opinion that doesn't suck off the trend setting tech industry leaders! Down vote! Ban! Mwahahaha...
andrewclunn··on Google Stadia shuts down internal studios, changing business focus
What's cheaper and more easily distributed:

reliable high speed connections

or

Computing devices with dedicated graphical processors

Survey says... nobody wants what you're selling Google, and nobody with half a brain trusts you to maintain services long term anyways. Stadia is doomed and riddance.

andrewclunn··on Facebook Indefinitely Suspends Trump
Ah yes, either Trump is a cult leader who is threatening the very core of our democracy, or the election was rigged and we're about to get a Chinese style Manchurian candidate in the White House. I'm so glad that the media vigorously looked into these allegations of corruption and fraud, instead of dismissing them for partisan reasons, because then we might have a split, between people who get their information from mainstream outlets believing nearly half the nation are conspiracy nuts or violent bigots, and those who get their news from independent media online believing that half the nation are brain dead sheep or lying sycophants.
andrewclunn··on We should administer Covid-19 vaccines as fast as possible, not reserve doses
Which makes total sense when people are avoiding medical check ups and hospitals for fear of infection.
andrewclunn··on Biden wins White House, vowing new direction for divided U.S.
You would, but we were banned long ago if we made anything approaching valid points on places like this. Your ignorance is the result of the bubble, which follows from censorship. You cannot see it because the censorship makes the edges of your bubble invisible to you.
andrewclunn··on Why is the dropout rate so high for Computer Science?
Because 2 years of experience is worth more on the job market than a degree about math concepts that are abstracted away by compilers, so why waste the time and money?
andrewclunn··on Confessions of a Fake News Writer
It's no wonder that single person shows are popular on YouTube and the alternative media. An individual can be trusted in a way an institution never can be.
andrewclunn··on WideNES – Peeking Past the Edge of NES Games
Why not use these methods to map out a game, create a meta file with the data, and then allow it to be preseeded to improve performance, show the extended screen prior to loading on future playthroughs, and enable game specific heuristics only for the initial mapping, which could then be removed to avoid performance and compatibility hits?
andrewclunn··on Apple Removes Infowars from Podcast Directory
Read through the dead comments here on this topic. Now tell me censorship isn't political.
andrewclunn··on China Is Nationalizing Its Tech Sector
And thus the brain drain from China will commence at full speed (more than present). Seems government regulators in China don't understand market forces either. Good to know.
andrewclunn··on An anti-ageing startup is offering transfusions of blood from young people
And blood from injured people.
andrewclunn··on How the Internet Gave Mail-Order Brides the Power
Maybe the dating sites have hacker news bots? I wrote this response as a joke, but thinking about it...
andrewclunn··on Browserprint: Browser fingerprint tool now can guess client OS even when spoofed
Under a VM, or a BSD jail?
andrewclunn··on The JavaScript phenomenon is a mass psychosis
Why do c programmers think that everything language needs to be more like c? I mean math precision aside, what's so bad about == testing for the same value after a tostring conversion while === tests for same type and value? Isn't having a single target for the front end nice? And being able to pass around json objects without having to explicitly type everything is a huge time / effort saver. I mean have you ever had to write a back end in Java or c#?
andrewclunn··on How the Internet Gave Mail-Order Brides the Power
So don't waste your time online. Just vacation in the Philippines and pick out a bride then. If that's what you want.
andrewclunn··on History of American Protest Music: Nina Simone Sang What Everyone Was Thinking
I prefer the modern music inspired by her original. Such as:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDi9eHTvis0

andrewclunn··on Richard Posner: “The Real Corruption Is the Ownership of Congress by the Rich”
In a globalised economy, breaking up your own multinationals because they have an effective monopoly in you own country is to concede the global market to foreign competitors. Capitalism and global markets are now more powerful than any individual nation.
andrewclunn··on Who will remember you in 100 years?
TLDR: YOLO!
andrewclunn··on All You Zombies
Watching some managers fail just feels like karma sometimes. I can't imagine the company in question will be around for too long.
andrewclunn··on What is this colored fiber in my chicken?
Your concern for animal welfare will never be enough for the animal rights people (just read the other comments here).
andrewclunn··on Mark Shuttleworth says some free software folk are 'deeply anti-social'
I blame (in part) the linux popularization approach that turned to drama to create a more compelling narrative. The now defunked linux action show for example. Having an opinion is cheap. People who have never contributed a line of code or donated a cent to a project think that by being super opinionated about systemd vs upstart or Mir vs wayland, that they can virtue signal how "l33t" they are. Then they justify their strong opinions with arguments about "fracturing and redundancy" but never anything technical because they actually know nothing. Telling those people to GTFO is both cathartic and better for the FOSS community. Right on Mark!
andrewclunn··on Part of that world
Great post. I'm a coder, but I find that monetary giving is the most practical way for me to contribute to projects I use and love.
andrewclunn··on Forget coding, we need to teach our kids how to dream
Soft skills is often a way of dancing around saying that charisma matters. Can you teach your child to be more attractive? People focus on hard sciences, math, and complex skills (like proficiency with a musical instrument) precisely because they are the areas where training matters. In the same way that instilling good eating habits and making sure your child exercises are important. Focusing on "creativity" is often just how people who suck at math and aren't particularly athletic or beautiful tell themselves that they've special too. Gonna really go full creative artist type? Then college is a waste.
andrewclunn··on A Baby with 3 Genetic Parents Seems Healthy, but Questions Remain
Outlaw the practice to force it overseas. Blame the physician for avoiding regulatory oversight. Yeah, that sounds like the genetic luddites alright.
andrewclunn··on I was a multi-millionaire by 27–here's what I learned
"Limiting beliefs" eh? God damn, I hate how wealthy people love their therapists so much and all need some simple dogma or narrative to explain their success. Though I guess I see poor people doing the same with finding externalized reasons for their lack of success.
andrewclunn··on For 18 years I thought she was stealing my identity, until I found her
Suddenly those eccentric people with really unusual names don't seem so crazy...
andrewclunn··on Input Mono – A Typeface for Code, from Font Bureau
So many of these fonts can't tell if they want to be a web font for use in a site or a locally installed font for personal use. By going all in on the personal use side, this one gets it right. I'm not even concerned about licensing because I'm just using a customized font for coding in my own editor of choice. Nice job.
andrewclunn··on A summary of jQuery method alternatives in native browser implementation
The only future proof form of web development is being able to write things natively. Everyone gets pissy when you show that maybe their preferred framework or library isn't needed because that means their way of doing things might be replaced. But native code doesn't give a damn.
andrewclunn··on Studios pushing earlier movie rentals amid growing pressures
All good news. Perhaps soon the theater will once again be synonymous with live performance, while digital entertainment is for consumers to enjoy at their leisure. With surround sound home systems, 3D TVs, and smart phones everywhere, how long could this artificial scarcity last?
andrewclunn··on Elon Musk’s Neuralink wants to boost the brain to keep up with AI
Logistics. Can the problem be solved with engineering and invention alone, or do they need to get governments and political movements involved in order to accomplish anything? Why would anyone with any real ability or drive want to bother with that shit?
