andreagrandi··on Financial services shun AI over job and regulatory fears
If "implementing AI" means implementing yet another chatbot, I'm happy they are not using it. One of the banks I use, just added a chatbot as default option when you contact support: I'm planning to move to another bank. When I have a real problem I want to speak with a human, not with a bot. I do use AI stuff for other tasks, but I don't want it to replace real customer support.

andreagrandi··on Testing how hard it is to cheat with ChatGPT in interviews
If you are asking questions which can be answered by Chat-GPT, maybe you are asking the wrong questions.

GPT is a tool which can legitimately be used to do your job.

There are so many things that GPT can't do: take decisions, find the best approach to talk with a human being, resolve conflicts between two members of the team, and last but not least explain why of a certain solution.

Is it a coding test? Pair with the candidate. See how they think. Ask yourself: would I enjoy working with this person?

And make your own decision.

andreagrandi··on Groqchat
Yeah, it’s fast but almost always wrong. I asked it a few things (recipes, trivia etc…) and it completely made up the answers. These things don’t really know how to say “I don’t know” and pretend to know everything.
andreagrandi··on Kagi finally let me lay Google Search to rest
I tried this query: !code how do I invert a string in python

and I was redirected here http://www.searchco.de/?q=how+do+I+invert+a+string+in+python... which doesn't even open (at least on my network)

What's going on here?

andreagrandi··on Kagi finally let me lay Google Search to rest
I use Kagi (along with DuckDuckGo) and I really appreciate the quality of their search results, but if you care about privacy do not use their Safari extension.

Due to a Safari limitation, all the queries are leaked to the previously selected default search engine https://kagifeedback.org/d/1575-ios-extension-leaking-search...

In addition to this, since all the search attempts are being redirected to Kagi, you can’t use any other search engine unless you deactivate the extension and this prevents you from trying the same query on different engines.

P.S: as far as I understand, they don’t have much freedom with the implementation and everything would be much easier if Safari allowed to customise the search engines, but I’m not sure this limitation is being properly communicated to the users (unless I missed some warning during extension installation)

The same company which allowed a user to use my own email address to create an account without even verifying their email address?

Yes, I've heard about them...

andreagrandi··on Use OpenAI API to make two GPT bots talk to each other
I wanted to learn how to use OpenAI API in Python, so I decided to make it fun and created an interesting experiment: what would happen if I let two GPT powered bots "talk" to each other? Let's find out!
andreagrandi··on Study: ChatGPT outperforms physicians in quality, empathetic answers to patients
I've now read the article and I'm not changing my opinion. ChatGPT can do some things very well and people tend to hype those things and claim it's better than humans rather than recognising its limits. And again, you are still missing the point of my comment despite having read it, so I'm out of patience. Maybe try to ask ChatGPT to explain what I meant :)
andreagrandi··on Study: ChatGPT outperforms physicians in quality, empathetic answers to patients
Good to know it's able to do some useful stuff. In my case I mostly ask Python related questions, because it's the one I know better so I can check if the answer is right or wrong. I will try with different languages, but I will be less capable of knowing if I got a good answer or not. It may take more time, but I find the combination of Google + Stack Overflow more accurate than asking ChatGPT
andreagrandi··on Study: ChatGPT outperforms physicians in quality, empathetic answers to patients
And it costs zero to you to ignore my comment especially if you don't understand it. Other people seem to have understood what I meant and posted constructive responses, you didn't, but honestly it's not my problem.
andreagrandi··on Study: ChatGPT outperforms physicians in quality, empathetic answers to patients
I did not read this particular article, I was explaining that from my own experience, all these articles telling how great ChatGPT is seem to be made up because my experience (and from what I read I'm not alone) is completely opposite. Maybe it's not able to solve the type of questions I ask? Fine. But it's not how ChatGPT is presented most of the times.
andreagrandi··on Study: ChatGPT outperforms physicians in quality, empathetic answers to patients
the point is: my job is not to train a deep learning model, my job is to write code. If I already know the answer, I'm not asking the question. If I can recognise something is wrong, it means I should have done that task by myself. Can it do certain things faster than me? Sure! Can it do them correctly? Most of the time it can't and if I have to spend my time to check every output, the time I saved is already wasted again.
andreagrandi··on Study: ChatGPT outperforms physicians in quality, empathetic answers to patients
The more I use ChatGPT (including 4.0 version, available with Plus subscription) the more I think these "Studies" and articles are simply made up.

For my experience is terrible for any question I ask: - if it doesn't know well a person it simply makes up things - if I ask code examples or scripts, most of the time they are wrong, I need to fix them, they contain obsolete syntax etc... - if I'm asking a question, I'm expecting being asked for more context if the subject is not clear, instead it starts spitting text without even realising I asked a completely different thing etc...

I could go on for hours with other examples, but I'm seriously not finding it useful

andreagrandi··on Why is Amazon selling fake 16TB portable SSD drives?

andreagrandi··on I mailed an AirTag and tracked its progress
I can't find anywhere a simple answer to this use case: if I leave an Airtag in a bag, at home, and I leave for 1 week (without the bag):

1) will the tag start ringing?

2) Will my next door neighbour (who has an iPhone and I can often find it in my Airplay bluetooth range) receive a notification that someone is trying to track him?

3) Is my neighbour able to make my Airtag ring when I'm at home (and maybe sleeping) ?

Thanks

andreagrandi··on Apple Introduces AirTag
This could be a good workaround
andreagrandi··on Apple Introduces AirTag
While I appreciate the anti stalking feature I'm not sure it would be compatible with a common use case: suppose I attach one to my backpack because I want to be able to track it in case I loose it. Fine. But... at this point I either always bring the backpack with me whenever I leaver my home or it will start buzzing as soon as I'm far away.

andreagrandi··on Google is moving EU citizens’ data to US?
What do you mean "search history turned off"? I'm not sure I understand. Also, I'm not a UI/UX expert, but Google suite has "Account Settings" where I would have expected to be able to see/change my address, but the option is not there. I use a limited subset of Google products (GMail, Calendar, Youtube, Google Docs, Maps etc...) but the possibility of changing the address was in the only product I haven't used since 2014 (I checked it because someone else, on a forum, pointed me to it). Now the address is updated, but I have no idea to check if my Data Controller will remain the same or it will be Google LLC. They should give us an explicit option to check/set what Data Controller we have, not infer it from a single product (which in my case wasn't used anymore).
andreagrandi··on Google is moving EU citizens’ data to US?
I wouldn't classify this as misinformation.

Facts:

1) I don't live in UK 2) They threated me at UK resident 3) It's not possible to change the country directly from Google account, you have to go to Play Store (which I don't use it anymore) 4) It was impossible to contact them

andreagrandi··on Google is moving EU citizens’ data to US?
UPDATE #2: after clicking here and there, I was able to find this https://pay.google.com/gp/w/u/1/home/settings it looks like I had set a UK address once and completely forgot about it (I don't have any Android devices since 2014, that's why I forgot). Let's see if this will change anything.
andreagrandi··on Google is moving EU citizens’ data to US?
Done, thanks! I hope it will be enough to fix this.
andreagrandi··on Google is moving EU citizens’ data to US?
let’s try to keep the technical mistake separate from the legal bit. I think their email is entirely legit if I was living in UK, but I don’t. Also: honestly, I use Google Maps almost everyday. Even without asking me I think they have plenty of data on me to clearly see I’ve been living in Italy in the last year and half.
