andirk··on My AI thinks civics is black studies
Can I get a TLDR?
andirk··on Live Nation illegally monopolized ticketing market, jury finds
Someone tell Pearl Jam's Eddy Vedder his work to fight Ticketmaster some 30 years ago finally came to a head today.

> Ticketmaster sells about 10 times as many tickets as its closest rival, AEG.

Yeah, that's called a monopoly, even if it wasn't Ticketmaster's intention, which of course it was.

andirk··on Molotov cocktail is hurled at home of Sam Altman
I find the best use of chatbots re: software engineering is more of an office hours with the professor than it is a fellow colleague; Use it for specifics. Throwing things over the fence to it often causes a reach into the bag of garbage spaghetti code that is half the internet content.
andirk··on Molotov cocktail is hurled at home of Sam Altman
Haha. My favorite shillings will always be NFTs and the "let's do email job pointless meetings in Second Life and call it Metaverse". Although the former is/was pure shilling, and the latter is/was a horrible pipe dream shilled as useful.

A Machine Learning + Large Language model is one popular technology. Decentralized blockchain tokens is another popular technology. Besides hype, there's not much in common with those technologies.
andirk··on Who is Satoshi Nakamoto? My quest to unmask Bitcoin's creator
His abrupt silence mid-conversation with a handful of people via email and on the main Bitcoin forum also leads me to believe he's no longer with us. Code is often written like speech where one can decipher different voices in its writing, and I have heard some suggest the beginning code did look like more than one person's writing. There's likely a few people who know/knew him personally and know what happened, but I'm fine with the desired anonymity to continue.
andirk··on Show HN: SatsAPI – Bitcoin data API, pay per call in sats via Lightning L402
> "It enables micropayments directly in the HTTP layer"

VERY cool! This is the perfect use of micropayments that far exceeds that of traditional fiat and credit vehicles.

andirk··on Show HN: Tanstaafl – Pay-to-inbox email on Bitcoin Lightning
Credit cards aren't big on tiny transactions, but I'm sure any payment method could work.
andirk··on HN: I built a Bitcoin meme site with 21-episode fake Satoshi interviews
Bitcoin bro here. Very cool! I'm working on something pushing the bare minimum too. Even minimaler if you could smash all the Javascript into the `onkeydown` and other "content attributes"[0] so there's not even a `<script>` tag!

andirk··on Are the Mysteries of Quantum Mechanics Beginning to Dissolve?
Maybe, but the AI we see in the mainstream today -- generative image/video/text creations and Large Language Model chatbots -- were done via non-governmental public and private companies. And a lot of the work hitting the scene loudly and somewhat prematurely. My understanding is the amount of and type of compute needed for Quantum is pretty intense, so there'd be a huge footprint from its manufacturing to keep it hidden.
andirk··on Show HN: Quantifying opportunity cost with a deliberately "simple" web app
Just like any stonk that's increased in value, woulda coulda shoulda. Keep an eye out for things that you care about and things you think other people will care about, and invest in those.
andirk··on Show HN: Quantifying opportunity cost with a deliberately "simple" web app
I did find my passport at that same time and threw a lot more USD at it. It's nice.
andirk··on I guess I kinda get why people hate AI
Regular stonks are incredibly flawed, or whatever you want to call it, and the general public gambles on them as "the next big thing". None of that is unique to BTC, albeit more extreme with BTC. One should look at a potential investment as both its real world usage _and_ increased speculation.
andirk··on Bitcoin gets a zero price target in wake of Burry warning
Wholeheartedly agree. Bitcoin bro here. The amount of fiat that most people can put in to such a speculative and confusing investment is most likely the small % of their $ they can label as "risk capital".
andirk··on Bitcoin gets a zero price target in wake of Burry warning
Since I've been in it, this has happened in:

- early 2018

- March 2020

- Summer 2021

- Summer 2022

- mildly in Q1 2025

- now in early 2026

This has never happened before!

andirk··on Total monthly number of StackOverflow questions over time
That "Dead Internet" phrase keeps becoming more likely, and this graph shows that. Human-to-human interactions, LLMs using those interactions, less human-to-human interactions because of that, LLMs using... ?
andirk··on We gave 5 LLMs $100K to trade stocks for 8 months
Update with Gemini 3. It's far better than its predecessors.
andirk··on It’s time to free JavaScript (2024)
Someone should patent <blink>.
andirk··on Why are 38 percent of Stanford students saying they're disabled?
I got 1.5 extra test time. I would have never graduated otherwise. I didn't use it my senior year though. To this day, I read slower than most, I have to reread things when others don't need to. Intelligence and having learning disabilities are not corollated as this article suggests.
andirk··on I have recordings proving Coinbase knew about breach months before disclosure
And anyone can become a miner. It's not reasonable on small rigs because there are so many miners now, but if most of them leave, then the common man can get back in to mining.
andirk··on Ask HN: What Have Been Your Biggest Regrets In Life?
The lesson is to gamble on things that are either a) fun like btc, or b) you personally see it as a viable product in the future.
andirk··on Satoshi-Era Bitcoin Wallet Awakens, Moves $16.5M in BTC After 14 Years
I just felt like it was time to move it.

Nothing extremely odd about this move.

andirk··on GoFundMe CEO: economy is so bad his customers crowdfund to pay for groceries
CNBC told me the economy is doing great. My neighbor is borrowing money from me. My friend is borrowing money from me. GoFundMe is becoming more for basic needs. Everything is becoming more expensive often for no reason. According to every metric BUT stonks, the economy is holding on by a thread.
andirk··on Ask HN: How does one build large front end apps without a framework like React?
Web components, copy/paste CSS that does crazy stuff, all of these Web APIs [0]. However, Vue is my go-to. It's just reactivity with files that don't break "separation of concerns". Plus a community if I get stuck. However however, making something super slim bare bones is the most rewarding.

andirk··on Bitcoin Lost the Developer War (and It's Not Coming Back)
Its original intention of being a way of moving value easily including small amount has not panned out, it does not negate that it has matured in to a digital gold.

Or just say you heard about it early and regret not grabbing a few wooden nickels.

andirk··on The gaslit asset class
You can use Lightning. I agree its main promise is still in the works, but the digital gold thing is also a feature.
andirk··on Internet Archive's big battle with music publishers ends in settlement
Did something happen in the past couple of days? I had this link to a Sam Cooke (1963) album [0] open and working and was enjoying it, but today it no longer exists.

andirk··on OpenAI and Nvidia announce partnership to deploy 10GW of Nvidia systems
Most salient point of all of this: gigawatts is pronounced "jigga watts", like Back to the Future's Doc does correctly.
andirk··on Anti-vaccine groups melt down over RFK Jr. linking autism to Tylenol
Besides all of the issues with decades of peer-reviewed studies claiming little to no connection, there is something very strange that the brand name "Tylenol" is EVER used if the supposed culprit is acetaminophen.

TLDR: anti-vax groups want to mainly blame vaccines for autism, and this Tylenol claim takes some of the spotlight away from vaccines.

andirk··on Every Noise at Once
A great time sink!

Wondering if certain types of instrumenal music could be paired with paragraphs of text in a written story, much like scores in film and TV. Using the X and Y axes as a guide so a chatbot could read ahead and match the scene, emotion, theme, etc with certain clips.
