anaganisk··on Bank transfers as a payment method (2021)
I guess you assumed I'm from India, so I have no idea about US but, I'm living in the US for the past 2 years. And having lived in both places US payment systems are really backward.

Zelle is trying to solve it, but not widely accepted and is not even at scale what India has done with UPI. Direct Bank transfers take seconds not days.

Also we get OTP verification for every transaction, it's mandatory. People can't just randomly charge someone just because they know their A/C and routing. We do have credit cards too, but for it, one needs a good standing too, it's a privilege not a feature.

And Debt is bad for many people, who can't manage it.

And finally we don't have to depend on some 3rd party company(I've read enough PayPal, cash app horror stories). We have a default system between banks that just works, to make transactions instantly, secured and authorized.

anaganisk··on An AI Engineer Explains Why Most AI Startups Will Die
So? Not trying to be snarky here, but I believe how you sell it matters more than what you are selling. People prefer GUCCI shirt even if the same material and color is available for peanuts from a generic brand. OpenAI is not building products, so other competitors will come, but creativity will go a long way.
anaganisk··on Meta to release open-source commercial AI model
I think we are at a looking where we just have to let go unless we are Disney, with an army of lawyers. May be it's time for the change in thinking. Having said that. Attribution allows a person to trace the source, it's not a success marker anymore. Probably, if enough negative statements generated by AI get popular, that could potentially piss of countries/people for example some LLM recognizing Taiwan as independent country you can bet China will push for attribution to sources. We have bills pending in multiple countries that want access to personal of encrypted messages to trace the source.
anaganisk··on Bank transfers as a payment method (2021)
India has done this for more than a decade at this point with IMPS and NEFT, and recently UPI. And I'm sure several other countries have them too, but for some reason the US chooses to remain backwards in this case.

anaganisk··on Instagram Threads hits 100M users, becoming the fastest growing app
It's no different than using sign in with Google. And there are bajillion apps out there that offer sign in with Google, doesn't mean every Google user is subscriber of the app. Same thing with threads.
anaganisk··on Sao Paulo: A city with no outdoor advertisements (2013)
The Times square was the first place I visited in the US, Imagine a bright TV on four walls in a room playing unskippable YouTube ads. That was my feeling, I have no idea why people go crazy about watching ads. To each their own.
anaganisk··on OpenAI temporarily disables the Browse with Bing beta feature
That's a huge bit of stretch, US congress doesn't control the rest of the world. General US public will either be left behind or VPN subscriptions will rise.
anaganisk··on Goodreads has no incentive to be good
I guess all that reddit content scraping is a net profit.
anaganisk··on Show HN: Serverless VPN, pay as you go, unlimited devices, no subscriptions
But in this case it actually is a onliner to spin up a VPN and the relevant mobile/PC client apps are already there. One click deploy scripts are available for digital ocean, AWS, GCP, Azure etc. This OG Dropbox comment was too snarky, for a genuine use case, the solutions in those comments were actually complicated than using Dropbox, while spinning up your own VPN is actually safer and better wrt streaming services etc, not easy but serves the purpose in a safer and better way.
anaganisk··on Tesla FSD confirmed to fail at stop sign as attempts to discredit tests backfire
Releasing a beta product to operate a product that weighs a ton, and quickly accelerates to 60mph in seconds, while not strictly evaluating the end user before granting access, and then marketing it as "Full self driving", while it even fails to do basic, "slow down at curves", is something which makes them deserved for the hate.

The problem with Firebase I've seen is not the E2EE but rather the ACLs being set. There have been 10s of websites that were exposed to public, that have been exposed in the recent past. Not to claim you are doing something wrong, just a caution to anyone who uses firebase.

anaganisk··on Reddit is trying to sow division in mod teams because the protest is working

anaganisk··on Titanic tourist submersible goes missing with search under way
Learning to code is smart? Astronauts, doctors, lawyers, bankers and other gazillion jobs be damned. Coding is the dumbest job in my opinion compared to PM, or journalism. Could you survive the Ukraine war coding?
anaganisk··on Reddit is trying to sow division in mod teams because the protest is working
Dude the top AI company, "Open"AI, founded by Sam Altman is a board member of reddit, I'm all for conspiracy but at least get the basics right. I myself have a conspiracy theory that he is pressuring Reddit to build a moat. Also disallowing API access does shit, to stop API companies from scraping anyway, because they can still scrape off the site like how search engines do it, so even my conspiracy may only be true to certain extent. Also mods are volunteers, they keep the community conformant to the sub rules, mods who don't watch their content will lead to comments like "Why is this on this sub", "sub has gone to shit", there are people who genuinely take care of their subreddit. They're kind of unpaid janitors.
anaganisk··on Dingo, an open source robot dog
Suggesting random people to adopt a pet, is in my opinion wrong, unless you know the person well. Pets are not a thing, they need care, responsibility, time, additional budget and other factors you could include if you are gonna have a baby.
