amorroxic··on Inside continues to bet on email, the “largest social network”
I actually tend to agree here. While purism is understandable (email is, should and will continue to be the gold standard) reality is that no-one has 10 years to spare waiting for users to realize its value once more and migrate back in droves.

Also, who's to say communication won't become my-bot-against-your-bot kind of thing for instance? Given choice between standards and convenience people don't seem to think too long before going with the latter..

amorroxic··on HN is my new Facebook
Been a HN user for 6+ years and after all these years HN is still pretty much the only feed I check on a daily basis. (not on Facebook so my example may not be very relevant)

The thing I love about the experience can be summed up as: - no click bait headlines - no endless "engagement", notifications, round navigation and noise (incredible quality of content curation) - amazing community (comments are often more insightful than the source)

Basically there comes a moment when you're up to date - reading done - and can carry on with life afterwards.

amorroxic··on Ask HN: What are other minimal, all-content, no-frills discussion sites like HN?
datatau.com is a good hn-like source for most things AI/data
amorroxic··on What.CD is shutting down
I wholeheartedly second your post Sir. For me this feels like loosing Wikipedia, it's oink and what.cd the ones that got me lost in music (and accordingly buy 100s of records ever after) as opposed to disposable .99 tracks lost in some folder.

Trust MPAA to curate music. Lol :)

amorroxic··on Is anybody else using ridiculously long variable names?
Just ordered Clean Code - it's this kind of insight / references that I love HN for. Thanks for taking the time to chime in.

Really good perspective. Seeing the same thing on a daily basis tends to induce color blindness, plastic memory - no longer realizing difference between self documentation and meaningless verbosity.

Thank you.

Agree. Context is king indeed, our assertion is this:

(any type of)documentAnd(convert success)PDFState(categoric variable)JsonStates(chunks of json states).

It's part of an Akka Streams well, stream :) (i/o -> content transform)

There is a domain specific case indeed, would've been better perhaps to offer a bit of context: https://speakerdeck.com/amorroxic/reactive-resumes - we deal with different types of documents then pdf conversion as standard in, followed by parsing, ai, analysis.

Mea culpa, wasn't meant to be dumb though your observation is spot on. Consider it just literature, euphemistic - not ideal indeed - effort.
amorroxic··on Polls suggest Iceland's Pirate party may form next government
It's wonderful I believe, a great social experiment in the shape of a small nation. Just look at their reaction post the 2008 crisis, they'll be ok. When education's free..
amorroxic··on Finally: Brainfuck is ready for the mainframe/enterprise
In a most ideal world I'd end up contributing to this project while listening to serialised Mozart played on didgeridoo.

I would be so happy.
