aminbandali··on Ask HN: What new skills are you learning?
Interesting! May I ask how come you've chosen to study Farsi? I would've emailed you but I didn't see any emails on your profile.

aminbandali··on Enough's enough: Contract teaching at a Canadian University
I've been fortunate enough to have Andrew (the author) as my Physics prof, last year.

Although I've always enjoyed and understood physics (to my own share) before, the way he taught it all of a sudden made everything much more clear. I could see the connections between each concept and the next.

To be able to teach this well, indeed requires a lot of experience; and as much hard work and passion; and Andrew does/has all of that, despite all these issues.

> I would like to give my students the very best learning experience that I possibly can.

I could't agree more. Not only is he knowledgeable, but he's also great at conveying it.

I'm writing this comment in a hurry but I really felt I had to write it. I'll write a follow up in near future; and I'll try to explain the situtation from a student's point of view too. All I can say right now is that this is not what he (and many other Contract Instructors) deserves.

If you ever read this, Andrew, I'd like to thank you again for all you've done for me, and many others. Please keep aspiring and inspiring us.

aminbandali··on Rust for C++ Programmers – Part 9
As usual, I've updated the GitBook. Part 9 is now in there. Read: https://www.gitbook.io/book/aminb/rust-for-c
aminbandali··on Rust for C++ programmers – Part 8: destructuring
Glad you liked it! GitBook is a pretty cool tool I'd heard about before; and when I started reading Nick's posts, I knew it was the best time to try it haha.
aminbandali··on Rust for C++ programmers – Part 8: destructuring
you're welcome ;)
aminbandali··on Rust for C++ programmers – Part 8: destructuring
I had that feeling too, so I started publishing his posts in GitBook, which has nice formatting and syntax highlighting: https://www.gitbook.io/book/aminb/rust-for-c

The repo, from which the book is built, is available on GitHub: https://github.com/aminb/rust-for-c

I tried contacting and asking him before, but didn't hear back, so I just went ahead and did it myself.

aminbandali··on Show HN: Persian poem illustrator (weekend project)
Nice project :) The Nastaliq is displaying fine but with Nazanin font, characters are not connected and are displayed incorrectly. Chrome 35.0.1916.153 under OS X Mavericks.

Also, any plans on publishing the source?

If the website is yours, please change the font! Comic Sans ruins all the greatness! Choose among hundreds of free fonts on Google Fonts and embed it on your website so we can read it better. Thanks for sharing.
aminbandali··on Beg HN - last day for my open source crowdfunding campaign (neo4django)
I'm really sorry for not being able to back you. In fact, I don't even have a credit/debit card! Else, I would've helped.. So, sorry about it.. but I tweeted it..
aminbandali··on Show HN: Free DynDNS alternative for cypherpunks
Man this is pretty DAMN cool! This definitely deserves more attention!

Thanks for making this!

aminbandali··on Specter – A minimal, elegant and free Markdown-enabled blogging platform
It's not built-in out of the box, so you gotta ask the developer about it. But you should be able to easily use it by adding the js files to your header.
aminbandali··on Specter – A minimal, elegant and free Markdown-enabled blogging platform
Compared to WordPress, you definitely do; but think about it, there's lots of stuff in WordPress that a blogger doesn't need. WordPress is not just a blogging platform [anymore]. However, on the other hand, by using static sites you're entering a whole new level of security. But don't fear, for commenting, there's Disqus which is pretty good, and I think it's built into specter as well! Even if not so, adding it is just copying and pasting a couple of lines of code :)
aminbandali··on Specter – A minimal, elegant and free Markdown-enabled blogging platform
With WordPress, there's always the possibility of your blog being hacked, because it executes queries and there's always the chance for bugs to exist some where in the huge ocean of code. On the other hand, with static blog generators (like specter, octopress, pelican, etc) your generated blog will be static html and as far as I know, there's no way you can really question html's security, simply because security doesn't apply to it. You cannot attack html because it doesn't run queries or anything, it's just static data being pulled from the server and displayed by the browser. So, in the end, the security goes back to your host and how good the machines are configured (when you're using shared hosts).
aminbandali··on Specter – A minimal, elegant and free Markdown-enabled blogging platform
The most important one to me is not using PHP (THEshittiest programming language ever) and being built upon NodeJS. Also, look at my answer below about the security aspect of it.
aminbandali··on Tiny Little Elevator Simulator (Qt)
Wow! This is pretty cool! A lot better than mine :p congrats and thanks for sharing!
aminbandali··on Tiny Little Elevator Simulator (Qt)
Thanks for your comment. Yes I know, and I'm sorry for that but I pretty much had to explain everything in comments because it was a high school project and our teacher wasn't really familiar with Qt framework. And about the switch statement, you're right, I should have used an if in that case. The code looks kind of funny but at least it's good to see how much I've progressed during these months. I'll publish some of my recent projects soon!

aminbandali··on Startups are Hard
It's true! I hope you (and all of us) always love what we do and keep the self-motivation safe with us. Wish you good luck with your business whatever you do and wherever you are :)
aminbandali··on Startups are Hard
That's ABSOLUTELY true! That's the trickiest part and it's one of our challenges in our startup. It's hard to keep the balance when you want to build your own product, but also got to make some money while your product hasn't reached your desired stage.
aminbandali··on Startups are Hard
Interesting metaphor :) thanks for sharing!
aminbandali··on Startups are Hard
Yeah I agree as well. To me, that's the most important thing. If you don't enjoy what you're doing, then what's the point?!
aminbandali··on Ask HN: Interested in a weekly HN summary Podcast?
It's a great idea. I would love to see it happen, or even do it myself. Unfortunately, I don't have a strong voice or any equipment. So, even if I do it, it'd be more like an amateur thing. I don't know if that will be ok and people will want to listen to it or not :/
aminbandali··on Ask HN: How/where should I host my personal site?
If you don't necessate to use WordPress and want to try something cool, I'd suggest Octopress (http://octopress.org/) + github pages to setup a static blog. There are lots of nice themes around for it as well. You can add a domain by simply creating a CNAME file with the domain adress or you can tie it to a subdomain on your domain and use the main domain for your host (if you plan to get).
