ameesdotme··on Lenovo will adopt the ‘Moto’ label for its smartphones
I really wonder why. Motorola has been building a great brand over the past years, while Lenovo - in my experience - never built a decent smartphone. This will probably result in the pollution of the Moto-brand, causing people to trust it no longer, unless the Lenovo-smartphone department and the Moto-department are also merging.
ameesdotme··on 700 megapixels served in under 700 miliseconds
Quite misleading indeed and definitely done before. NASA released a 46000MP picture of the milky way in 2015, which is also available online[1] using the same technique.

ameesdotme··on Show HN: A JavaScript-starterkit for 2016
Disclosure: This is starter kit is a result of the work of many JavaScript-developers at Greenhouse Group, my former employer. I decided to clean it up a bit in a fork.
ameesdotme··on New MacBook Pro Is Not a Laptop for Developers Anymore
> The MacBook Pro had options with 2.4 gigahertz dual-core processors back in 2010. Anything new in 2016? Not really, well… nope.

I find it very hard to believe that these processors perform on the same level as the ones in 2010. Equal cores / GHz does not mean equal performance.

ameesdotme··on Ask HN: Back-end team does not document their APIs. How do I convince them?
Good point. How can you build an API if you don't know what data to return anyway? Designing a model is part of the job and could be documentation by itself. Thanks!
ameesdotme··on Ask HN: Back-end team does not document their APIs. How do I convince them?
This is the issue I am mostly worried about. Not having documentation is risky, as it causes your team to depend on human-resources instead.
ameesdotme··on Ask HN: Back-end team does not document their APIs. How do I convince them?
Python / Flask
ameesdotme··on Show HN: A 683 byte tooltip in pure CSS
Sweet! I've got a thing for micro-frameworks/libraries like this. It's surprising how much functionality fits in less than a kilobyte, while most websites these days use megabytes. Well done!
ameesdotme··on Dear Al-Jazeera: Why Steal Our Code?
What. SASS doesn't get compiled, it gets transpiled to CSS, which is human-readable. Trolling?
ameesdotme··on Dear Al-Jazeera: Why Steal Our Code?
Android applications are compiled, so they can be obfuscated. Web applications do not work that way at all, and proper obfuscation is impossible. There will always be a way to reverse this, and the actual content shouldn't be obfuscated anyway, as this would have severe negative effects on SEO.

Other than that, just because you can steal other people's hard work doesn't mean you should.

You clearly do not understand this situation.

"Samsung Internet"

How come I did not know about this browser until now? Yet another one that will be abandoned and full of security holes in a year.

ameesdotme··on Apple-sans-adjectives – A font that redacts Apple-esque superlatives from text
I made a replicate of the iPhone announcement poster they made, but without the black-censors and timestamps.

ameesdotme··on Show HN: Tell Me What to Do
Add HTTPS. Don't be irresponsible.
ameesdotme··on Show HN: New restdb.io JavaScript API makes databases more fun for webdevs
So if I understand correctly, this will give read/write permissions to a database within a webbrowser? Not to mention the requirement of jQuery.

Edit: Confirmed. It will.

ameesdotme··on [dead]
This could easily be done with about 15 lines of plain JS. No 130kb of React needed.

Edit: Why are you using Websockets? It doesn't live update over here.

ameesdotme··on Ask HN: What is the best tool to create a good looking resume?
I've never enjoyed making my CVs in a text-processor. Maybe I have the wrong idea of a CV, but I'd like it to be somewhat pretty and also maintainable. I really wish that jsonresume.org takes off and to finally have one standard that works everywhere. Whether a web app dies or not.
ameesdotme··on T-Mobile CEO Claims It Doesn't Throttle, T-Mobile Spokesperson Confirms It Does
It's funny how a company that invested so much in getting a trustworthy brand crumbles down so fast by the mistake of one person; their CEO.
ameesdotme··on Show HN: SlimScroller.js – Smooth scrolling under 300 bytes
Will take care of:)
ameesdotme··on Show HN: SlimScroller.js – Smooth scrolling under 300 bytes
I agree somewhat. it was more of an experiment to see how small I could get this to be.
ameesdotme··on Show HN: SlimScroller.js – Smooth scrolling under 300 bytes
Will do right away.

Edit: Done.

ameesdotme··on Show HN: SlimScroller.js – Smooth scrolling under 300 bytes
Hey guys. I felt like writing a truly tiny smooth-scrolling plugin that just works. Feedback on the code is more than welcome!
