amake··on Emacs 27.1
To my mind there are two camps of language support in Emacs:

1. Languages where people put a lot of effort into implementing bespoke support inside Emacs itself (as Elisp packages)

2. Languages where no one bothered to make Emacs-specific features, but are now supported quite well via LSP

Python seems to be in the #1 camp, and that seems to be what you describe.

The #2 camp, however, is superior in my experience, so I would suggest trying that instead.

I haven't worked that much with Python for a while, but at one point I used lsp-mode and pyls and it seemed pretty good: https://emacs-lsp.github.io/lsp-mode/page/lsp-pyls/

You can also choose Microsoft's Python LSP server instead: https://emacs-lsp.github.io/lsp-python-ms/

amake··on Emacs 27.1
This is a very important release for LSP users, as Emacs now has a fast, C-based JSON parser that speeds up e.g. lsp-mode significantly.

> We're going to see a diaspora out of the city

I’ve never seen “diaspora” used this way, and dictionaries at hand don’t support it.

Did you mean “migration” or “exodus”?

Sorry to reply off-topic, but I wanted to let you know that in response to your request here (which I can no longer reply to): https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23677225

I’m about to release an update to Orgro with LaTeX support powered by KaTeX. More info here: https://reddit.com/r/emacs/comments/hsa3ik/orgro_update_inli...

I don’t use LaTeX much, so if you would be willing to test with the kinds of documents you write, or even send me a file to test with, that would be greatly appreciated.

amake··on Life is 90% of my use cases for org-mode
There is a TeX package for Flutter so that might be doable.

amake··on Life is 90% of my use cases for org-mode
I made an org-mode viewer for iOS and Android. It can load from anything that supports the standard file access API (so Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.).

It's fantastic for running Twitter bots that tweet out generated content at a set interval. I have several and they easily fit within the free limits.
amake··on I made a font based on my handwriting
Just curious: That code could be run by just plain `#+begin_src python`. What does using Jupyter gain you?
amake··on Show HN: Jqview, a simple native GUI for inspecting JSON with jq
You can put `<json` on the left no problem.

(But it makes the pipeline harder to edit so actually I have no problem with `cat JSON`)

amake··on Clang-11.0.0 Miscompiled SQLite
It doesn't. The compiler is moving the access to `pMem->flags` to come later in the sequence, after `pMem` has been modified by `sqlite3VdbeMemRelease`.
amake··on Regexes vs. Combinatorial Parsing (2019)
I had a great experience using PetitParser (https://github.com/petitparser) in Dart, though it turned out my use case was a bit hairy for combinatorial parsing: I made a parser for org-mode (https://orgmode.org/) markup, which is similar to Markdown.

Markdown-like formats are quite line-oriented and sometimes context-sensitive in ways that make rules hard to express.

I did get something usable, but I had to make some new primitives and break some efficiency rules (copying substrings).

The result is here: https://github.com/amake/org_parser

(Shameless plug) It’s used in my FOSS mobile org-mode viewer app Orgro: https://orgro.org

amake··on Org Mode – Organize Your Life in Plain Text
I wish the stores let you do that easily :(

If you're on Android then you can wait for F-Droid, or you can get an automatic refund from Google Play if you uninstall it shortly after purchase.

Otherwise you can always build and install from source, since it's FOSS.

amake··on Org Mode – Organize Your Life in Plain Text
I take all my work notes in org-mode and had a hard time viewing them on my iPad, so I made a cross-platform mobile reader app:

https://orgro.org

(It's FOSS but available on the App Store and Google Play for convenience. It will be available on F-Droid soon as well.)

amake··on Ask HN: What's your quarantine side project?
It’s now available on Google Play as well.

I finally got my perpetual yak-shave to 1.0: an org-mode file viewer for iOS and Android

https://orgro.org

It's cross-platform by way of Flutter. It's also open-source, so you can get it for free, or buy it on the App Store (Google Play coming soon).

amake··on Carbon: Create and share images of source code
Ah, thanks, I had missed the comment entirely, so I mistakenly thought you were taking about the distinctive "f" in the code font.
amake··on Carbon: Create and share images of source code
In what sense is the latter font "cursive"?

Are you talking about engineers within Apple? What is your source for this information?

> Whenever I see i18n I just weep over the fact they didn't use the term "lang"

That's a bad idea because "lang" or "language" is already dangerously overloaded. People casually use it to mean any of (actual) language, locale (language + region (+ script, maybe)), script, or any combination of the above.

Easy solution: find and document actual cases of voter fraud.

Oops.

Those are the exception, not the norm. Just about all residential neighborhoods are filled with streets that have no sidewalks, much less barriers between car and pedestrian traffic.

> - She dressed the part; coming to work in a proper business suit and briefcase each day, not carrying a backpack like a sixth-grader.

> - She didn't mind making coffee for the boss. It's a hate crime to even ask these days, but she did it happily.

This seems like very strange editorializing to me. Do backpacks bother you so much? Who is complaining about making coffee if that's in the job description?
