altero··on Nursing Scholar Sheds Light on Bullying in Academia
No. My example is when MEMBER of minority (or other protected group) bullies other people. In that case it is much harder to fight bully.
altero··on Nursing Scholar Sheds Light on Bullying in Academia
Good luck with that! (seriously)

Many times bullies are well protected and are practically untouchable. For example they could be from minority, and any sort of complain makes anyone automatically racist.

To win over administration one has to become victim himself. For example it is generally acceptable to bully nerds. So one has to be diagnosed with mild autism or social anxiety, before he can even hope for any sympathy. So now the bullies are consuming even free time outside work/school and destroy remaining self a steam.

And winning price is usually low, and does not even cover expenses and lost time. Bully may get short holiday, but usually returns to same position.

altero··on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS supports TRIM on SSD drives
Trim has been already supported for years. It just was not on by default.

Central Europe has good security tools for this. For example whitelist for transaction. Or approval for each transaction via SMS. Or temporary unlocking card while shopping

And the office could be rented. I think it is clear that Google expect people to check emails and do 'work stuff', it was mentioned several times.

Rent prices and other expenses skyrocketed. And not everyone has option to move out. So yes, it caused powerty.

Technicaly the bus is place of work, so there are interesting implications for Google as employer.
altero··on Canada's top court has overturned all restrictions on prostitution
Even some self-employed people have to pay social insurance. Plus one can opt-in voluntary, it makes sense if one retires after a few years into normal job.

I have no credible source I could post here. However the work is for _SUPPORT_ personnel, not actual prostitutes.

altero··on Canada's top court has overturned all restrictions on prostitution
Some of my relatives are nurses so I know well. There is big difference, just try to say: "I work in brothel!". Plus once employed one must follow work rules such as uniform...

Not sure what is situation in US. But in contimental Europe one pays a lot of money on social tax (about 10% of salary). And government will jump through hoops to pay as little as possible.

altero··on Canada's top court has overturned all restrictions on prostitution
In Germany they went one step further. Prostitutes are registered workers, they pay taxes and must pass monthly health checks. They also get unemployment support and state pension after retirement.

On other side many people lost unemployment support, because they refused to work in brothel as cleaners or maintenance personnel.

I think you have no idea about situation Czech Republic and Russia. Work Law is influenced by socialism and way more friendlier to worker.

Any discrimination based on sexual preferences, sex, race, age and so on is strictly forbidden. One could sue for an ad which says they want 'younger' workers. Gay discrimination would be national scandal. There is also handful of agencies which are very keen to enforce Work Law.

There is violence against LGBT, but most cases are severely punished by state. What is 'war on drugs' in US, is 'war on neonazis' in Czech Republic.

I would suggest other subjects for discussion. For example the gay rape in US prison is widely accepted, comedians even joke about it on TV.

altero··on Inside the Saudi 9/11 Coverup
So what? Most terrorist attacks on US were orchestrated by FBI or secred services, who spoon-fed attackers, give them bomb and 'catched' them. Nobody cares.

But they do need help. Diversity is nice, but someone still has to do the actual work.

Follow the money

Today patient has to pay lot of money to be kept alive. Also deciding about death is expensive and this burden would be on government.

In a few decades elderly people will be 40% of population. Government will probably have to pay bills for most of them. Only then will this become norm, but in really hideous way.

altero··on How do I avoid hiring assholes at my company?
A-hole adds diversity to a team :-)

Often one is a-hole because he insist on basic principles, such as unit tests.

altero··on Winamp shutting down on December 20th, 2013
So to copy album into phone I have to upload to web, than download it to phone? I could also use USB 1.0 or serial port with similar speed.

Until network will be more reliable and faster than my hdd, there is not much to discus.

altero··on Pair programming made easy
Most people who complain about pair programming, tried it only on tiny laptop in loud cafeteria. But pair programming is easy, all you need is decent hardware and private office. Pretty awful this is not common in year 2013.
altero··on The Ethics of Unpaid Labor and the OSS Community
I am in/from post soviet country and have zero exposure to recent american culture. So my question is serious: is this article joke?

>I want to see all people fairly compensated for their labor without feeling forced into it; I do not want to see free and open source software stopped.

Author could send a donation to some open-source project. Instead he makes me (as OS developer) feel like a shit, because I stole some theoretical chance to someone else. This goes beyond occasional troll, and if this becomes a norm, I will seriously consider to make my projects private.

altero··on The Ethics of Unpaid Labor and the OSS Community
The rate of mentally retarded people in open source community is actually much higher than in general population. Various forms of autism, social anxieties, mild psychopathy and border-line schizophrenia are surprisingly common.

But it was always ok to bully nerds, physically or other way.

altero··on The Ethics of Unpaid Labor and the OSS Community
Is this article a joke? It is like some twisted communist manifest fitted on 21st OSS.
