alt227··on Attack of the Vibe Coded Photoshop Clones
So many people in that thread saying "No one is going to vibe code a Photoshop replacement", and that was only 5 months ago. What the hell is going to be happening in 10 years?
alt227··on Bitwarden Dual License Model
Yeah, and at the same choose to cause other people frustration by having to wade through the negative criticisms to get to interesting discussion points. The whole world feels more and more like that these days.

Yeah, shocking that people care about A doing something but not B doing the same thing. I think thats called hypocritical or something.
alt227··on Attack of the Vibe Coded Photoshop Clones
The basic photo editing tools were set in stone decades ago. Adobe has spent years tweaking things 1% of their userbase wants like 3D manipulation. Once somebody makes a basic clone which does the main basic tools well then its game over for Photoshop.
alt227··on Attack of the Vibe Coded Photoshop Clones
This doesnt result in lawsuits because nothing illegal is going on. There have been genuine Photoshop clones on sale for years (see Serif Affinity) so just because they are vibe coded now doesnt make them illegal.
alt227··on Attack of the Vibe Coded Photoshop Clones
Maybe not, but after some time somebody with a brain and some decent coding skills will spend the time to make a good clone and then its game over.
alt227··on A city-building game in which the city would prefer you didn't
I want trains to go faster because it gives me more time in my day, not because bigger numbers look better.

My job is reactive, and I often need to travel that route on very short notice. Having the daily travel time on those days go down from 4.5 hours down to 3.25 would be massive for me.

I dont care about price as the company pays, but my time is very valuable to me.

Funny all the Americans here saying Fuck Russia, yet their own president is currently invading multiple countries per year...
alt227··on 3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit
Its part of the propaganda to help the Russian citizens blame Ukraine for their pain rather than Yandex.

If I had any data in a middle eastern or Russina data center I would have moved it all out months ago. If companies still have stuff in there which is not replicated elsewhere then they are basically asking for anything they get.

If people dont like how something is written they can move on, they are not being forced to read it.

Thank you

So? It was useful information, who cares how it was written.

Wow, another site that now refuses to play ball unless you sign in.

Guess I'll never be visiting Glass Door again then.

> But let's be honest. "enshittification" here really means "I don't want to pay for my tools and I want it completely for free forever."

That is completely the opposite of what is happening here. Lots of us pay premium Bitwarden subscriptions and are not happy with the way the company is headed, especially for a security company that holds the keys to many of our kingdoms.

"enshittification" here means a company that we trusted is now started to make decisions which erode that trust. Its happened before and it will happen from here unto eternity.

So if we now have Vaultwarden + keyguard can these things move away from Bitwardens api and pursue their own?

I feel like this blog post deserves its own submission to HN

alt227··on Telegram Desktop vulnerability allowed any user's file to be stolen
I would argue one of the main purposes of OSs is securing files between different users. All modern OSes do this securely if set up properly.
alt227··on I tried to move my notes out of Emacs. I failed. Again
+1 for plaintext files. Nothing else gives me the flexibility and reliability.
alt227··on Beauty in DVD Menus
Personally I love special features and creative menus.
alt227··on Beauty in DVD Menus
I remember watching the DVD of Memento, and using the secret DVD menu button combination to enable watching the film backwards scene by scene. I remember thinking that was amazing and we were entering a new era of creative movie distribution. Shame that sort of thing didnt really catch on.
alt227··on The people holding up the internet
I personally hate all sites that hijack my scroll wheel for animation purposes.
alt227··on Apple and a hacker's future
Exactly. People are trained and licensed. If we trained people how to use mobile devices safely before allowing them one then none of this would be an issue, but we dont.
alt227··on Apple and a hacker's future
People are licensed and tested as capable to be able to drive cars. They are not to own mobile devices.

A lot of those things you listed the EU as doing sound like good things to me.

Thank you. I see its an Apple thing which is why I guess I havent heard of it.

I know SIP as a telephony protocol, what are you referring to here?
