aliasxneo··on AI Makes Me Sad
> As sure as I know anything, I know what it sounds like. It sounds like a loss of craft, a loss of control, a loss of creativity.

I don't doubt this is genuine, but I think it points at a broader rift in engineering where what some consider the craft differs: expressing your craft in hand written code or expressing your craft in making software. I lean heavily towards the latter, which means I have the opposite experience as the OP. My creativity has exploded with AI. I feel my craft has expanded into areas that were previously prohibited by time - whether thats actual typing or doing manual research on SO or Google. My control feels improved because my mind is freed to focus more on my vision.

I doubt I'm the only one that feels this way. It doesn't lessen or make the feelings of others no less legitimate. I just think perhaps there's a communication rift where each side isn't necessarily understanding where the other is coming from. As with most things, understanding and nuance is necessary here.

aliasxneo··on Several vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Linux kernel
I use daybreak to do most of my security scanning. I always tell it that any finding must be accompanied by a harness that faithfully reproduces it using the code at the current commit with no modifications. In my experience it eliminates most if not all of the false positives.
aliasxneo··on Pi 1.0
I mainly use Paseo for the daemon features. I run it in a linux VM in my homelab and spawn all of my agent sessions on it. Exposed over Tailscale so I can connect to it from my desktop, laptop, and mobile phone and continue like nothing happened. A really great self-hosting experience.

Haven't used omp web yet.

aliasxneo··on Pi 1.0
I found oh-my-pi with Paseo to be my personal sweet spot. Checks all of the boxes I want and is the most consistent set of AI tools I've used thus far.
aliasxneo··on Dutch governments builds alternative for Microsoft based on NixOS
This thread seems hopelessly tone deaf to non-technical people's experience with something like NixOS. I can manage it just fine myself given my background, but I see a very low, if non-existent chance that a standard office worker is going to be happy moving from Windows to NixOS. I mean, good for them for trying, I just think HN is full of Nix purists who tend to gloss over all the warts that has kept this ecosystem from growing much over the last few decades.
aliasxneo··on Pentagon says overreliance on AI contributed to missile strike on Iran school
Meanwhile, the Houthi's are trying to build missile technology with AI. We're only seeing the beginning of the consequences of an over-reliance on AI for military purposes.
aliasxneo··on What It's Like to Work in One of America's Data Centers
I worked at Google datacenters for over a decade. It was a huge ordeal to request running generators because our entire ECS (environment control services) team was geared towards NOT having to run them. I know AWS and Microsoft both have a similar situation. The referenced article just seems like senseless fear mongering.
aliasxneo··on A build graph that rolls dice
Nix reminds me of Haskell in a lot of ways. Very interesting research going on in the space of efficient/immutable builds, but somehow still ends up with no real adoption in the broader ecosystem.
aliasxneo··on Claude Code now reads AGENTS.md if there is no Claude.md
oh-my-pi
aliasxneo··on Claude Code now reads AGENTS.md if there is no Claude.md
Did a Ctrl+F to try and find anything about `.agents/skills` in the release notes. My harness already fixes Claude's refusal here, so I can't tell if that's been supported yet or not. Annoying if they did one without the other.
aliasxneo··on Cloudflare Quick Tunnels
In hindsight, that was probably a confusing sentence. I was more pointing out how much traffic flows trough their systems which ends up making it an attractive honeypot, especially as a U.S. company.
aliasxneo··on Cloudflare Quick Tunnels
Yeah, I don't doubt their infrastructure at all. In fact, I rate them fairly high in terms of reliability and performance. I've honestly been a fan of them for a very long time - it's just I'm watching all of this centralization happen and it sets my Spidey sense off. Like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.
aliasxneo··on Cloudflare Quick Tunnels
Tunneling was something that recently fell out of the work I've been doing [1]. I've used Cloudflare Tunnels before but I just have low trust with them recently with how big they are getting. All of these nice things come at the cost of pushing _a lot_ of traffic through their systems.

aliasxneo··on Show HN: Craigslist for agent skills, curated by a human
I feel like skills are going to succumb to influencer branding. People will use the ones their idol says to use.
aliasxneo··on Stallman: Thousands Dead, Millions Deprived of Liberties (2001)
Wrote some of my thoughts somewhat related to this recently [1]. I've simply concluded that its a matter of numbers: the more centralized data becomes the easier it is for the government to coerce access. If the government could obtain the data of a million citizens by coercing or engaging in law fare against one or two companies, it's much easier done. If they had to individually coerce, sue, or otherwise hack into those same million customers, it becomes a lot more expensive and difficult. It sucks that's the way it is, but that's why I think the new internet has to reverse the rules and make authorities more particular about who they track rather than just casting a dragnet across N major providers.

aliasxneo··on Blizzard Revives 'StarCraft' Franchise with Open-World Sci-Fi Shooter
In the very same conference they announced WoW Forever. So whatever it is, it's not necessarily systemic, because they seemed to have nailed that audience.
aliasxneo··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
Spending almost all of my time working on DNTLS (https://dntls.net/). Yesterday I was able to create secure mTLS tunnels over IPv6 for direct P2P to my co-founder's desktop in SE Asia (I'm in the US). He was able to load a website I was hosting locally on my machine. I also tested coordinating through a relay to avoid publishing my public IP and sending all traffic through the relay to hide my IP entirely. We more or less recreated the "old" internet in a way except everything is mTLS and E2E encrypted.
aliasxneo··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
There's a far cry between someone showing off some weird contraption they hacked together versus posting about the Houthi's military campaign. If you can't see that, then I'm not sure what else to say.
aliasxneo··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
Why does that have to be the only reason? I personally think it has nothing to do with "Hacker" news, but I understand that sentiment has been in the fringe lately with HN becoming increasingly political.
aliasxneo··on Show HN: Kage – Real product design inspiration turned into prompts for agents
Why is there an "online" metric in the front page? That's one of the stranger things I've seen an AI do.
aliasxneo··on Blizzard Workers Win Historic Union Contract
Use to be a huge Blizzard fan back in the day. Can't get behind basically anything they are doing today. Time will tell if something like this just reinforces whatever is broken or results in real improvement. I'm cynical on the matter.
aliasxneo··on A/I shuts down
Fair enough. I do have a specific sentiment in mind, though, and it's not the constructive kind, which I very rarely see anymore. I would classify "anti-American sentiment" as sentiment which is against the Western culture that has predominated since the founding of the country.

But it's a slippery slope. If someone love America and wants a revolution to turn it into something historically unrecognizable, does that still make them pro-America? I would say no.

aliasxneo··on A/I shuts down
> HN is extremely american-leaning

I would agree that's true for Y Combinator, but my experience in the HN _community_ for almost a decade now has suggested that the heavy anti-American sentiment started right around the start of the current administration.

aliasxneo··on Wikimedia Foundation Workers Overwhelmingly Vote to Form Union with CWA
I'd be fine with this so long as people who didn't contribute any taxes couldn't vote. Otherwise you're just signing up for those who choose to work to get exploited by the leisurely.
aliasxneo··on Wikimedia Foundation Workers Overwhelmingly Vote to Form Union with CWA
It mostly just feels like basic maths, not really a world model. Productivity is a finite resource. If there's a deficit in productivity, people will necessarily suffer and, in the worst case, die. The problem is world views that suggest giving everyone a free choice that enough people will choose productivity while everyone else chooses leisure. I'd be more apt to believe it if we had evidence of it being a natural outcome.
aliasxneo··on Wikimedia Foundation Workers Overwhelmingly Vote to Form Union with CWA
No argument there. The question is whether history shows us that that represents a majority or minority of people.
aliasxneo··on Wikimedia Foundation Workers Overwhelmingly Vote to Form Union with CWA
If enough people decide they want to spend their liberty not working, then the 12 hours is a necessity, not something "unhealthy" about the person.
aliasxneo··on Wikimedia Foundation Workers Overwhelmingly Vote to Form Union with CWA
What if health and liberty to someone looks like them not providing any net positive to society? What compels someone to work 12 hours a day to share those resources with such a person?
aliasxneo··on Wikimedia Foundation Workers Overwhelmingly Vote to Form Union with CWA
> living in a society that treats lack of income as deserving of whatever pains and suffering

What does the opposite society look like? Universal income?

aliasxneo··on Show HN: Moadim.io – A scheduler for agents
How do I know this won't just eat through my token budget? It's hard to understand from the website how "done" is derived in the loop. If it's not deterministic then it seems like it would be prone to over-engineering.
