I agree. Visualization is often key to understanding and identifying non-trivial issues.

Here's a tool a colleague of mine made for inline "visual debugging" for e.g. computer vision, written in c++: https://github.com/lightbits/vdb. I haven't used it myself, but when he presented it I think it made a lot of sense to have these sorts of tools for processing data in real time.

Cool. The design is pretty slick, the calendar is currently not working for me. Nevertheless, here are some first impressions:

- When adding shows, why do I first have to select a show and then press "add show"? It would maybe make sense if I could continue searching and add multiple shows, but right now it seems like an unnecessary extra step.

- It would be nice to see some more information about each show. Even though I might remember the title of the show, there are some shows with similar titles, so that I'm not completely sure that I've selected the right one. Just a link to the IMDB page or something would be sufficient. Or maybe just the release year.

Could you elaborate on how ROS fits into this framework?

Do you mean scrolling with a mouse? It might sound a bit arrogant, but there's rarely any good reason to scroll with a mouse in vim.

I would suggest you add "Simulink" to the title, i.e. "An open-source alternative to Matlab/Simulink".

I believe Scilab has a Simulink equivalent, whereas I do not think Octave does?

I'm a control engineer by training, and to be honest there's really no equivalent to Matlab/Simulink right now for control system design. Fortunately I'm currently working on statistics/sensor-fusion related stuff, and Python works just fine for that.

The article is quite vague on the problem formulation, other than being somewhat equivalent to the TSP, so I'm just going to speculate a bit onto how they solve it. The TSP can be formulated as an Integer Linear Program (http://examples.gurobi.com/traveling-salesman-problem/). This type of problem is very well studied, and several free and commercial problem formulation tools and solvers are available, some that scale to thousands of variables.

They also probably decouple their problem into disjoint regions before solving it, to reduce the dimensionality of the problem(s).
