alexmuller··on Google's Indexing Javascript more than we thought
I'd argue that best practice in web development is not requiring JavaScript to load a page, but I'm sure that issue has been done to death in the past.
alexmuller··on Introducing the Gmail app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
I guess it's about expectations. As a web app, people might expect a slight delay when tapping. But a native app should be responding instantly to taps (like the rest of iOS does), and this doesn't cut it.
alexmuller··on Why I’m Kissing Spotify Goodbye
I can't agree with this strongly enough. Why doesn't Spotify have any kind of recommendations? I'd also love to see iTunes Genius implemented in Spotify, but instead of just using my library for similar songs (like iTunes does) they could pull from the whole catalog.
alexmuller··on A New Gowalla
> We’re building a social atlas for the world. And we need your help to do it.

This makes me think of Dopplr. As somebody who was using Gowalla purely for the check-in-to-see-where-I've-been aspect, I think I'm going to end up a Foursquare user before long. I guess you have to do what you have to do in order to stay alive and hopefully end up profitable.

alexmuller··on How much traffic being on a Google doodle gives
There's a lot of information made available at http://stats.wikimedia.org/
alexmuller··on The New Apple Advantage
Trouble is, anyone can spec a machine so that their manufacturer of choice comes out smelling of roses.

For example, I'm looking at the Lenovo site now: X220, i5 2.5GHz, 12.5", 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD = £1330

(including a £175 September discount)

And Apple: MacBook Air, i5 1.7GHz, 13", 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD = £1100

alexmuller··on Wikipedia traffic statistics for Hacker News (or any other article)
This is my favourite: http://stats.grok.se/en/201107/Rupert_Murdoch (it's amazing to think how influential Wikipedia could be at times like that)
alexmuller··on Hover.com: we store & email passwords in plaintext for usability
Not exactly a list, but: http://plaintextoffenders.com/
alexmuller··on Hover.com: we store & email passwords in plaintext for usability
I emailed them about this a few months ago after being spurred on by the creation of plaintextoffenders.com:

> I received this email when I registered with you last year, and was prompted by the recent creation of the site 'Plain Text Offenders' to send it to them. Somebody else has submitted their registration email too:

The reply was as follows:

> We realized that this area was of great concern to many customers and we have since removed password submission in our 'Welcome' email.

So to give their customers peace of mind, they made it less obvious that what they're doing is stupid.

alexmuller··on Wikipedia is Adding a Love Button Next Week
They do publish at least basic pageview data (which is how http://stats.grok.se/ works). But absolutely, they should make detailed metrics much more visible, which would help.
alexmuller··on Google Makes Web Pages Load Instantly
Does this mean analytics providers are scrambling to implement this API before the Chrome build goes stable?
alexmuller··on Custom Scrollbars in WebKit
Very true! I'd probably make them flush with the right edge and slightly wider, based on that.
alexmuller··on Custom Scrollbars in WebKit
I was reading it thinking the same thing, but the scrollbars on http://maxvoltar.com/ actually look and work nicely.
alexmuller··on Why Instapaper Free is taking an extended vacation
> if you give away your work for free, all of the cheapskates and losers come out and start insulting the service

This is exactly what Spotify experienced when they announced they were going from free -> not so free.

alexmuller··on The Economics of Dropbox
True, though I bet 90% of users don't even realise there's been an "uproar" over Dropbox's security.
