alexkearns··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (July 2026)
An interactive timeline showcasing all the books I have read (or at least, the books I can remember reading)
alexkearns··on TimeGuessr
Not quite the same but we created a timeline ordering game for US presidents: https://www.tiki-toki.com/timeline/entry/1842261/US-Presiden...

You can also use our app to create timeline ordering games on subjects of your own choosing.

alexkearns··on Show HN: Markwhen: Markdown for Timelines
That's weird. It works perfectly for men much older computers and also on my M2 Mac Pro. What version of OSX are you using? I created that product, btw.
alexkearns··on Show HN: Markwhen: Markdown for Timelines
Ha! That's my product. Thanks for mentioning!
alexkearns··on Frosted Glass from Games to the Web: HTML glass UI inspired by AAA game dev
I used a similar technique to create glass-like panels with my online timeline maker (https://www.chronoflotimeline.com). You can see an example timeline with glass-like panels here: https://www.chronoflotimeline.com/timeline/shared/3118/Home-...
alexkearns··on Show HN: 3D interactive timeline I made of English and British monarchs
Do you mean a list of all monarchs in the world?
alexkearns··on Show HN: 3D interactive timeline I made of English and British monarchs
Thanks for the tip. I will take a look.

alexkearns··on Show HN: Sketchy-appearance interactive timeline made using RoughJS
I posted this a year and a half ago but got no response. Trying again now as RoughJS is currently trending, and there might be some interest. Would love to know what people think of hand-drawn style timelines.

Credit to Preet Shihn (https://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=shihn) for creating the RoughJS library (https://roughjs.com) that enabled us to achieve the "hand-drawn" look for the timelines.

alexkearns··on Rough.js – Create graphics with a hand-drawn, sketchy, appearance
Fantastic library. I used it to create beautiful hand-drawn style interactive timelines. See https://www.chronoflotimeline.com/blog/entry/hand-drawn-time...
alexkearns··on Rare Bronze Age spearhead discovered intact in Jersey
Thanks for the suggestion. Mehrgarh is a very important archeological site. But according to wikipedia ancient history has a very specific meaning. If my interpretation is correct, ancient history starts from the beginning of writing or recorded history, which Mehrgarh predates. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_history
alexkearns··on Rare Bronze Age spearhead discovered intact in Jersey
If you are interested in the far past, you might consider taking look at an interactive timeline of ancient history I created using data from Wikipedia: https://www.chronoflotimeline.com/timeline/shared/4392/Ancie...
alexkearns··on We're Building a Calendar for Work
A few years ago, I thought I'd try to redesign the calendar (as these guys seem to want to do). My innovation was integrating a timeline navigation to allow you to easily animate between months and years. Plus, loads of visual customisation options.

Sadly, the product I developed didn't take off but if you are interested in a left field take on a calendar design, you might want to take a look: https://www.chronoflocalendar.com

alexkearns··on Data Visualization and the Modern Imagination
I have long been fascinated by timeline designs. So this is right up my street. So impressive what these artists of old managed to create without access to computers and design software.

For more modern timeline visualisations, you might be interested in this list of timeline designs I compiled:

alexkearns··on Show HN: ChronoFlo – Create timelines you can share on the web
That's a good idea. We have created one educational timeline on US presidents (https://www.chronoflotimeline.com/timeline/shared/3114/USA-P...) but could do with creating a lot more.
alexkearns··on Show HN: ChronoFlo – Create timelines you can share on the web
Thanks for taking the time to give feedback. Some good advice there. The feeds idea is a great suggestion.
alexkearns··on Show HN: ChronoFlo – Create timelines you can share on the web
Thanks. Will take a look.
alexkearns··on Show HN: ChronoFlo – Create timelines you can share on the web
Thanks for taking the time to offer feedback. It is definitely niche-ish. I don't expect this to turn into a billion dollar company. But a few thousand or so paying customers would be nice!

I am thinking the following markets:

1. Company history timelines (for company's celebrating an anniversary) 2. Educational timelines for use in schools and universities 3. News timelines created by journalists covering a major new event 4. Legal timelines 5. Personal timelines

alexkearns··on Show HN: ChronoFlo – Create timelines you can share on the web
Fixed. Thanks!
alexkearns··on Show HN: Find info about the developers who post projects on Show HN
I am sure /shownew gets substantially less visits than /show. And /show does not get many. I wouldn't be surprised if the main way that Show HNs end up on the home page is because lots of the developer's friends give them upvotes.

Giving greater profile to /shownew is a good idea that I would get behind.

alexkearns··on Show HN: Find info about the developers who post projects on Show HN
I have run a little experiment. Published a Show HN. In the last 30 minutes, I have had around 37 visits via your app. And zero via Hacker News' Show HN page.
alexkearns··on Show HN: Find info about the developers who post projects on Show HN
I think Hacker News needs to do more to highlight Show HNs. Lots of them just disappear without trace and with no-one commenting on them. So I like what you have done. It brings some much-needed attention to Show HN.
alexkearns··on Show HN: ChronoFlo – Create timelines you can share on the web
I posted about ChronoFlo six months ago. And got no response from the community. Since then, I have added a ton of new features, including hand-drawn style timelines using RoughJS:

More info about hand-drawn-style timelines here: https://www.chronoflotimeline.com/blog/entry/hand-drawn-time...

Here's a timeline we created about US presidents: https://www.chronoflotimeline.com/timeline/shared/3114/USA-P...

I am the creator of this. Would love to know what you all think?

alexkearns··on Show HN: Built a timeline component for React with multiple layout modes
Great job - your timeline widget looks really neat. I look forward to seeing how it develops in future.

For your interest, there is a small group of hobbyist developers and small companies developing timeline products for the web.

As the developer of ChronoFlo Timeline Maker (https://www.chronoflotimeline.com), I welcome you to the timeline maker community!

Good luck with your project.

alexkearns··on Hacker News RSS Feeds
Thanks for providing the feeds. I have just used them to create an interactive timeline showing the latest 100 Hacker News submissions: https://www.chronoflotimeline.com/timeline/shared/3221/Hacke...
alexkearns··on Show HN: ChronoFlo – Create beautiful timelines you can share on the web
I am the creator of this. Have been building this over the past year or so. Technologies include: HTML5 canvas, CSS filters and a lot of JS.

To give you an idea of what you can make with ChronoFlo Timeline Maker, we created an interactive timeline of US presidents: https://www.chronoflotimeline.com/timeline/shared/3114/USA-P...

Would love to know what you all think?

alexkearns··on Ask HN: What's your quarantine side project?
I've been working on an interactive timeline of US presidents to promote a new timeline maker product I will be launching soon.

alexkearns··on From Dead Code to Company: The FullCalendar JavaScript Lib Turns 10
Congrats on a great product. I developed an SAAS calendar service - https://www.chronoflocalendar.com - which alas has not proved very successful, thus far. So is heartening to hear that it is possible to make a living out of calendar software. There is hope for me yet!
