It's a poorly translated word written in a haste. A better translation would be "red neck" (I think?). This is translated from my inner Swedish thoughts and we don't have Californian wokeness here (especially not down here in Skåne). But instead of finding a new word I reformulated that section everyone is so upset about. It's fascinating how easy it is for internet people to assume worst intent in everything, and look for things to be offended by, rather than to read between the lines and adjust ones interpretation based on context.

If you read the section, applying context from what the project is about and where it is used, you should pretty easily grasp the overall idea that is: "compression sucks and is incredibly inefficient". It would be a much more interesting thread if people took that message and argued against/for it, technically. But now we are here arguing about some word usage that might be offensive if interpreted in a very literal way. Congratulations; we have reached peak cancel culture. I hope you enjoy it while it lasts.

Yeah a "farmer" is not a literal farmer. It's slang for uneducated people aka peasants.

This. 1970s programming was like 2020s quantum computing. It was an elite's task. That's my message here.

You find what you look for. If you look for humble posts they are there to be found. But you don't want to, so you won't find them.

That's why the library ships prebuilt binaries with no dependencies at all. No compiler is even needed.

This is not going to fit in a single comment :)
alexhultman··on Pee, Not Chlorine, Causes Red Eyes from Swimming Pools: CDC (2015)
I've been a swimmer for 15 years and I had to get used to floating boogers and used band aids and I can just imagine how much dingleberry I have swallowed over time!
alexhultman··on Will Node.js forever be the sluggish Golang?
That's a good title. Golang is referenced many times in the text though, it's even plotted in the two graphs.
alexhultman··on Will Node.js forever be the sluggish Golang?
Node.js is very popular and some companies with lots of I/O still prefer JavaScript, they have their business logic written in it.
alexhultman··on Will Node.js forever be the sluggish Golang?
I thought you said you had assessed the _whole_ article as bad? You didn't read past the ingress, the motivation of the work done.

I'm sorry the article wasn't up to your standards.
alexhultman··on Benchmarking and Scaling WebSockets: Handling 60000 concurrent connections
(51210241024)/28000 = 19kb per websocket, which is not good at all. There are tons of websocket servers that outscale this by a factor of 8x or more.
alexhultman··on Show HN: µTT – A new faster MQTT broker
Please note my original title was "I'm developing a new and faster MQTT broker".

HackerNews changed it and I cannot edit. Point being (a) I do not even know the naming is final, (b) this is in no way a finished product, it is a 7 day prototype.

alexhultman··on Show HN: µTT – A new faster MQTT broker
I'm sorry but HackerNews thinks they know better so they mod the title into something misleading.

Original title was "I'm developing a new and faster MQTT broker" with extra focus on "developing". It is a 7 day prototype, not a finished product. The naming is not even known to be final at this point.

Thanks

alexhultman··on Show HN: µTT – A new faster MQTT broker
We can have a big bench-off with more brokers later on. I have tested maybe 6 and from this I have decided to write my own. I wouldn't spend time reinventing the wheel for free if I didn't have a reason for it :) Then you also have memory usage which is impossible to optimize in VM/GC languages.
alexhultman··on Show HN: µTT – A new faster MQTT broker
I have in fact tested RabbitMQ but it was not at all impressive. The two fastest brokers I have found are emqtt and Mosquitto, both good at either large or small broadcasts but not both.

Edit: yes they are qos 0 (just like Redis)

alexhultman··on Show HN: µTT – A new faster MQTT broker
Ah, kool. I first need to finish this up to a stable state though. Right now it just barely passes the benchmarks test.
alexhultman··on MinUnit: a minimal unit testing framework for C
Maybe it's a joke? Or some kind of hint about testing "frameworks" being too complex? Personally I think this is hilarious because I honestly cannot understand how people even need a library to do testing in the first place.

Right, I agree 100%. Support should be able to direct the communication to where it makes sense. I cannot be hanging out on Snapchat or follow them on Twitter or things like that, I just need support for my issue.

It truly is a world for the rich - money makes money. Censor and sue everything that goes in your way. Get bigger, sue more. Get richer. Disregard everything in your path.

So this post gets 60 upvotes in 30 minutes and is immediately censored by HN and taken off the front page. Right, thank you very much for stealing my work, giving me no credit and then censoring my appeal.

Can you find this notice in their distribution? I have looked in their client UI and in their client tar.gz but I cannot find anything. I can however easily find my project in there (I would think the license would be nicely placed where the sources are).
alexhultman··on Tell HN: Discord is violating open source licenses
They are distributing both binary (no problem here) and source (problem).
alexhultman··on More than one million requests per second in Node.js
I agree, this is one single factor that is constant in all apps: your long kept sockets will require far less memory which directly impacts the number of long polling clients you can have. Having fast throughput is just a bonus.
alexhultman··on More than one million requests per second in Node.js
What I mean with this is that any connection (socket) in Node.js builds on net.Socket which builds on uv_tcp_t which together requires a significant amount of memory (bloat).

A socket in the networking stack of µWS is far more lightweight (which already has been shown when it comes to µWS's websockets). The "HttpSocket" of µWS is about as lightweight in memory usage as "WebSocket", which is far more lightweight than net.Socket in Node.js.

One million WebSockets require about 300 mb of user space memory in µWS while this number is somewhere between 8 and 16 GB of user space memory using the built-in Node.js http server.

µWS is a play on its "micro" (small) sockets.
