aleksjess··on Court upholds discrimination ruling after male excluded from female-only app
It was a transgender woman. A woman.
aleksjess··on NIMBY Rails
Did somebody successfully run it on macOS via Wine?
aleksjess··on Jazz – The Database That Syncs
"Last writer wins" https://jazz.tools/docs/vanilla/key-features/version-control...
aleksjess··on Jazz – The Database That Syncs
I should have written a disclaimer - I am not a part of this project nor am I affiliated with them in any way. It just looked great from the DX perspective, but I didnt stumble upon any mention of conflict resolution.
aleksjess··on Generative AI. "Slop Generators, are unsuitable for use [ ]"
Objectively, using as much power as a country with a population of a few millions is a lot of energy
aleksjess··on Generative AI. "Slop Generators, are unsuitable for use [ ]"
I mean, I used the page totle, and an excerpt from the test which mostly summarizes the test. If youre right, I'll change the title
aleksjess··on The First Planned Migration of an Entire Country Is Underway
No idea. Maybe nothing? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
aleksjess··on The First Planned Migration of an Entire Country Is Underway
Yes, that's one of the angles.
aleksjess··on The First Planned Migration of an Entire Country Is Underway
They wont let them leave. If you know what I mean. It's also an entirely another beast.
aleksjess··on Why Do Victims of Massacres Go to Their Deaths?
> Still, at that point there is nothing worse than doing what you’re told for the last ninety seconds of your life and making things easy for the death squad.

My brother has not heard of tortures without end. Compared to that, a bully to the back of your head sounds like a blessing.

aleksjess··on Ask HN: What old or outdated software have you never found a replacement for?
Good question. There's a ton of libraries that do what I want to do, but not updated anymore.
aleksjess··on Ask HN: What are your arguments for and against vibe coding?
Huh? Could you elaborate?
aleksjess··on Don't fear getting fired if you have ADHD
Sure, getting fired isn't the worst, it's the inability to pay your mortgage that is suboptimal.
aleksjess··on Show HN: LinkedIn sucks, so I built a better one
It looks interesting for sure. Sadly, LinkedIn is going to be relevant for quiet a long time still, just because of how many people and companies are there. Ill give your site a try.
aleksjess··on Executive Order Shutting Down Department of Education
In all seriousness, how do you see this going down?
aleksjess··on Executive Order Shutting Down Department of Education
> now it's time to let America try out what it excells at, a free market implementation

I sure hope it will figure it out better than free-market healthcare, or energy distribution (look Texas).

aleksjess··on Ask HN: Why do you use LinkedIn?
>any type of social media where you can see people's pictures can turn into a dating app. And LinkedIn is even better because it's not just showing people's fake lives.

LinkedIn is arguably as fake as Instagram, Facebook, you name it.

Sooooooooo

aleksjess··on Ask HN: Why do you use LinkedIn?
...dating?
aleksjess··on Ask HN: Why do you use LinkedIn?
Depends on where you live. Where I'm at it's one of the job boards.
aleksjess··on Show HN: Turn ChatGPT Reports to PDFs
Chatgpt is a snake swallowing itself
aleksjess··on Show HN: Turn ChatGPT Reports to PDFs
To turn a page into a pdf? I suppose
aleksjess··on Show HN: Welcome, Cot: the Rust web framework for lazy developers
You raised a good point
aleksjess··on LinkedIn is the worst social media I've ever seen
LinkedIn is full of worthless posts full of users wanking each other off. Its the only place full of "get out of bed early, quite drinking soy lattes, inherit wealth" type of posts where it doesn't get challenged (maybe X is another one).

I genuinely might prefer reading AI-generated crap, because then I feel better about humanity.

aleksjess··on Ricochet: Peer-to-peer instant messaging system built on Tor hidden services (2017)
Looks like a good idea... sadly the latest release is from 8y ago. :(
aleksjess··on Audioscrape: Building in Rust When Everyone Said I Shouldn't
4k loc in a single file must be brutal
aleksjess··on Show HN: I coded my own JSON translation tool to easily localize my side project
Ok, so I have my translation, and I am not quite sure what to do now... Do I just copy-paste into my `messages.json`?
aleksjess··on React v18.0
@danabramov would you mind sharing the rationale behind making the ReactWG invite only? I understand that, de jure, it's Facebook's property, and you all can do whatever you want with it. De facto, since so many people on the outside world contributed to the project, at least an election of a commission would have been warranted. Would you mind commenting?
aleksjess··on Bill Gates Says that Bitcoin is bad For the Planet
There are third parties involved with exchanging cash, even though it might not be obvious. Central banks take part indirectly in these transactions, since they guarantee the value of the money.

The double spending problem is not a problem; it was solved already with BTC. You can always have your crypto on a physical drive, which kinda makes it like cash in the sense that you can have it in your hands like cash.

aleksjess··on Show HN: After 2.5 years on my side project, it has hit £500/month revenue
Tech might be the best, tho if you don't do something marketing cool tricks, then we'll... Yeah, it will be stuck in 2nd gear
aleksjess··on Solomon Islands set to ban Facebook in the name of 'national unity'
Tor was released in 2003, and yet people don't realise that it's that project (and others like that one) that gives people the freedom of speech.

Tor isn't particularly difficult to use (client-side), the only obstacle is having to remember the links
