aleksjess··on Apple Announces App Store Small Business Program
"Earlier this year, an independent study by the Analysis Group found that Apple’s commission structure is in the mainstream for app distribution and gaming platforms."

"Nice" deflection, Apple. If I had a penny for every time somebody used this reasoning ala "it's fine because others are doing the same thing" I wouldn't have to worry about a thing.

aleksjess··on I am an Uighur who faced China’s concentration camps
Wow, this is a really poor proposal.

Intervening in another's country internal affairs leads to a war. UN is a nice idea, though it doesn't work in reality. To apply for an asylum, you need to leave the country. Low likelyhood of happening.

I explain why its wrong to my kids. What then?

As sad as it is, we can't do much if anything.

Ok, we might have went a bit too far

aleksjess··on They're deleting my channel, but they don't know why? [video]
Why get so far with the proof? Looking at market share is far easier.

Great point, though. They are saving millions - in order to provide actual customer support they would have to hire a lot of people from all around the world.

aleksjess··on I thought I would have accomplished a lot more today and also before I was 35
A funny, yet a bit anxiety-fueling article about how time passes by quickly without us noticing. I feel as if it's more about us setting our goals way too high because of the internet, TV, and others. We see different people achieving so much every day, although we don't notice, that it's a) different people b) it takes them years and years and years c) they are one in a million type of people
aleksjess··on ReMarkable 2.0 – A digital notebook that feels like paper
It's pretty obvious, however I'm gonna say it anyway - they probably don't target people that are active here.

They could add all of that, though thatd be disrupting their intended Apple-like presentation of the product.

I would be interested in seeing that.

Probably, however, the graph would horrify me as well.

aleksjess··on Kosmonaut: web browser from scratch in Rust
Ok, so it might be the best new thing, and hype can be enormous, however at the end of the day there's only one question - will people use it?
aleksjess··on Kosmonaut: web browser from scratch in Rust
That's sadly the thing - you can't. Not until you have community-owned companies providing services being directly competing against tech giants.

Which might not happen, ever. Sadly.

aleksjess··on What's the future of Servo?
> These changes are tough for everyone within Mozilla, but are not indicative of any change in strategy for Firefox.

Seems to me the strategy is now to survive, more than anything else. So it did change, didn't it?

aleksjess··on What's the future of Servo?
Hello Hacker News, OP on GitHub here.

I was absolutely gutted to hear about Mozilla's "reductions" (I hate such euphemisms), perhaps even worse for the Web is abandoning Servo... Which I wanted to find out whether that's the case.
