aleken··on Show HN: Honker – Postgres NOTIFY/LISTEN Semantics for SQLite
I have used update_hooks to achieve similar behaviour in my projects. But perhaps this is intended as a higher level layer? It looks like the implementation is not using hooks?

A llama, not llama. Aha!
aleken··on Quitter – Become a Quitter and drop bad habits
I made my own CLI habit tracker, but forgot about using it since I don't have notifications.

aleken··on Quitter – Become a Quitter and drop bad habits
This looks great! I can't quit trying new apps! But joking aside, this is what a (bad) habit tracker should be like. Focused on the habits and not distract you with everything else. Let's see if I can quit social media. (Hope that does not include HN)
aleken··on Slow social media
That's all I use now for REAL social media. My family is in one Signal chat, and my in-laws in a other one. All the social media I need. School groups are unfortunately on Facebook Messenger groups.
aleken··on Easy Share: Files and Texts
Got my needs covered on all platforms with open source LocalSend.
aleken··on Search My Site – open-source search engine for personal and independent websites
This is exactly what I have been looking for. Like the other commenter, I am a but surprised by having to drag along psql for this. I like the design of the site, though

aleken··on Show HN: QBasic 4.5 on Android
Awesome! A blast from the past!

Feature request: could you make SOUND and/or PLAY work? :-)

aleken··on Concrete Diagramming, a Lightweight Alternative to C4
This has nothing to do with explosives. In case you wondered.
aleken··on Time to redefine normal body temperature? (2020)
I applaud your accuracy when measuring your kids' temperature. My approach when figuring out if my kids are sick is if their temperature is "high" and their general appearance and conditition is out of the ordinary. The exact decimal of the temperature doesn't matter too much by itself.
aleken··on Tell HN: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
You misspelled Finland :)
aleken··on North Paw
Agree with this guy. Never tried Lord Leicester hotel in Warwick though, but looks like it's too late. Shut down.
aleken··on Ask HN: Why are bookmarks second class citizens in browsers?
After reading your comment, I went to the bookmark manager in Firefox. Looks like Firefox supports tagging bookmarks. But finding them again using tags seems a bit cumbersome. You have to go the the menu to search bookmarks and then enter the tag.
aleken··on Ask HN: Why not add salt to lakes and swimming pools to reduce drownings?
Perhaps @chiefalchemist is thinking about how salty water is more floaty water.

This is also an interesting claim about the painting’s inspiration

aleken··on Dropbox Backup
Are you sure you’re not receiving those tracker cookies the second time around?
aleken··on Show HN: Slow Social, a social network built for friends, not influencers
Isn’t one of the points about “slow” social that you don’t need to read 50 posts a day? I would be happy checking in once a week, the same day I am going to post my update.
aleken··on Show HN: Slow Social, a social network built for friends, not influencers
This looks nice. If I were to use it, I would rely mostly on the mail-feature as none of my family/friends have signed up. That’s a nice feature!

But there’s one thing I reacted to, @citrusfruits. If I click the “start private conversation”-button, the email address of the user is revealed. That’s not bad in itself if the user is informed about it. But I didn’t see any information in the otherwise user friendly onboarding about revealing my email address.

aleken··on The thing standing between procrastination and daily progress is ritual
Which one is it? I found a “Tiny Habit” and an outdated “Tiny Habits” on App Store.
aleken··on Yggdrasil – Early-stage implementation of an end-to-end encrypted IPv6 network
Oh. Also. If I lose my VPS my network is still functioning to a degree. If you lose your wireguard server I believe you’re out of luck?
aleken··on Yggdrasil – Early-stage implementation of an end-to-end encrypted IPv6 network
Good question. I could achieve the same with Tailscale or Innernet, both using Wireguard. So perhaps my answer has to be that Yggdrasil tickles my interest in mesh networking.
aleken··on Yggdrasil – Early-stage implementation of an end-to-end encrypted IPv6 network
I have two devices split by VNET and not routed out to the internet. I connect those two and a VPS to create a small Yggdrasil network. This allows me to access all three devices from “anywhere”. Would use again.
aleken··on How fighter jets lock on, and how the targets know (2014)
Annoyed me as well. I changed to reading mode (icon on right side of Firefox mobile address line). Think that got rid of them.

aleken··on We can do better than Signal
Omnii looks exciting. Signed up for the beta in Play store. But can’t find the app afterwards. Does it require specific hardware?
