alehlopeh··on Religious scholars met with Anthropic
I don’t disagree that China has a lot of qualities that are pushing it past the US in many ways, but come on. The “oldest and most durable civilization humanity has ever created” is kind of ridiculous. First of all, what even is a civilization in terms of continuity? Is the People’s Republic of China the same civilization as Ming China? What about Yuan China? And if so, is western civilization not a durable civilization?

Stick to facts and not breathless brown-nosing and you’ll be a lot less off-putting.

alehlopeh··on Biology might not be quantum, but its math is quantumlike
Apparently that finding was itself found to be incorrect. The article doesn’t specifically debunk coherence as the mechanism behind photosynthesis, but it does imply that the real mechanism was discovered to be something else.
alehlopeh··on Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video]
Sorry, but what’s “install a plugin” in rails? That’s not a thing; not even a thing someone who’s ever worked on a rails app would say by mistake.
alehlopeh··on The most important product decision is what you don't build
iOS has this functionality built in.

He clearly meant getting married has no friction, while getting out of a marriage has quite a bit. Presumably there’s friction in the marriage otherwise why would they get divorced.

Not even close.
alehlopeh··on Show HN: Neobrutalism.dev – Just added Base UI support and added new color theme
I don’t necessarily think it’s doing something wildly new and different, but I also don’t see how this style looks anything like what’s in that Wikipedia article.
alehlopeh··on Paramount Caught Using 'Astroturf' Group to Drum Up Fake Support for Merger
I disagree. It seems just as easy to plant a seed for people to latch onto. In my experience, people are unlikely to express any kind of opinion that they haven’t seen someone (anyone) else express first.
alehlopeh··on Teaching an AI My Taste
Taste in the sense that people use it to describe something that LLMs are missing doesn’t mean “what I like” but rather “what is good” for an arbitrary set of difficult to pin down criteria.
alehlopeh··on The UN challenges five centuries of cartography
Calling it Equal Earth was a bad move. The word “equal” has tons of baggage. Why not call it something less incendiary like Actual Earth or something? What ever happened to being pragmatic?
alehlopeh··on ChatGPT Images 2.5
They famously have not launched Siri AI yet.
alehlopeh··on Flock Wants a Closely Surveilled World with No Exit
I don’t understand how people are reading this comment and saying “yeah, but…”

The benefits of a mass surveilled world are absolutely not enormous. Like, what the actual fuck?

alehlopeh··on Flock Wants a Closely Surveilled World with No Exit
You just need to reasonably predict the future 20 years ago.
alehlopeh··on DaVinci Resolve 21.1
Yes people really need to take the AI’s feelings into account before they say things like that.

Given that, throughout history, a handful of volcanic eruptions have triggered periods of global cooling, will global warming become a non-issue if a particularly large volcano happens to erupt in the next few years?

You think people in their 50’s run the world? That’s adorable. Meanwhile people are living longer than ever, still going strong in their 80’s. You think they just retired or something?
alehlopeh··on Pacing model development in an era of cyber-critical capabilities
They failed to anticipate a lot of things. So what?
alehlopeh··on Pacing model development in an era of cyber-critical capabilities
I don’t understand. What does it matter how many years people have been worrying about it?

alehlopeh··on Understanding is the new bottleneck
That’s not what pedantic means. And that lack of understanding says a lot about your position.
