albertopv··on A Swiss town banned billboards. Zurich, Bern may soon follow
Installing a new billboard, or updating an existing one. isn't free either
albertopv··on Apple Maps on the web launches in beta
Very sad Firefox is not supported from day one, even in beta
albertopv··on China installing the wind / solar equivalent of 5 nuclear power stations a week
I have serious problems believing chinese data are there third party confirmations?
albertopv··on NTS (TeX reimplementation in Java from 2001) still compiles under Java 16
You can do (almost) everything with enough time and resources, but it can be tough. WCF, without CoreWCF couldn't migrate until 2022 release and .Net Core 1.0 was released in 2019. EF Core is different. WPF, ASP .Net WebForms... Microsoft Message Queues usage is a no go. So yes, you can, not always, not easy, often not worth.
albertopv··on Getting Your DBA Teams Scripts into Git
I'll send it to a DBA colleague that is truly struggling with this XD
albertopv··on Windows File Explorer will be more powerful with version control and 7z
How many Git integration will benefit? 0.1% of windows users? Git is one of those things devs are capable to manage theirself, updating when needed etc. A faster File Explorer or a taskbar that doesn't suck (open faster, movable on the side, calendar on all screen, removable recommendations...) would benefit many more.
albertopv··on Domino's retreats from Italy having failed to conquer the home of pizza (2022)
Lol. Tried coffee in Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Netherlands, USA, Mexico... Only decent coffee was made by italian machines. Starbucks coffee is pure shit compared to an average italian one, literally very hot garbage water.
albertopv··on Domino's retreats from Italy having failed to conquer the home of pizza (2022)
McDonald in Italy is quite different than US one, tried both. First time I went to an italian McD was 27yo in Bologna and it was terrible, now quality improved a lot, much better than McD I went in US.
albertopv··on NTS (TeX reimplementation in Java from 2001) still compiles under Java 16
Not really the same, .NET Framework is a dead end, current .NET (former Core) is quite different, you can't port .NET Framework 4.8 apps to .NET 8
albertopv··on Barcelona will eliminate tourist apartments
I doubt it, given increasing extreme heat waves hitting Spain much more than "colder" countries.
albertopv··on Are animals conscious? New research
"Apparently only a small minority of bumble bees can figure out how to pull a string to access a reward, but then other bees adopt the behavior by mimicry."

Replace bumble bees with human beigns and "pull a string" with an engineering task and you'll find we are not so different. /sarcasm, but not too much, average human being is quite dumb, tbh.

albertopv··on SQLite is likely used more than all other database engines combined
There are far more ants in the world than human beings. So what?
albertopv··on Boeing sales tumble as company gets no orders for 737 MAX for 2nd straight month
Self regulation is no regulation at all. In Italy we have an expression for when you ask about the quality of the product to the very same person that sells it: How's the wine, innkeeper? Fine!
albertopv··on Fifth helium leak detected on Starliner
As a layman, this ship seems just badly designed in too many ways.
albertopv··on macOS 15.0 supports Nested Virtualization on M3 chips
And never will (probably), Apple has been clear for years about market segmentation.
albertopv··on Some Americans have stopped tipping. Should you do the same?
If you have to tip, it's not a tip anymore. As a european I never understood tip system. The restaurant is already paying the waiver, isn't it? If not, the problem lays there, not on the tips. I'm not tipped when I do a good job at maintaining a IT system providing few dozens millions € of revenues, it's my job and I'm paid for that.
albertopv··on An even faster Microsoft Edge
In a very old laptop I used Pale Moon [0] and it worked quite well.

albertopv··on VBScript deprecation: Timelines and next steps
New Outlook is just an embedded web app. I tried it for weeks, old one is still better, and least rooms calendar is updated properly.
albertopv··on Microsoft says new Surface Pro is faster than 15" M3 MacBook Air
It's Windows Modern Standby, one of the stupidest choice Microsoft ever made. Basically the laptop stays on to connect to the Internet to still receive mail and notifications.
albertopv··on 3 reasons people are moving from Windows 11 back to Windows 10
It is for at home, I bought a new mini PC that came with Windows 11 and I installed Ubuntu straight away.
albertopv··on Asynchronous Programming in C#
And for non MS serious enterprise development Java ecosystem is way ahead.
albertopv··on Windows 10 reaches 70% market share as Windows 11 keeps declining
You still can't move taskbar on the side, something you could do for decades.
albertopv··on Microsoft plans to lock down Windows DNS like never before
Sw engineers have been so pissed off by Windows 11 that the company I work for now allows Ubuntu installation on corporate notebooks.
albertopv··on Evidence of price-fixing in the oil industry?
Reality is G7 is getting rid of coal and have carbon taxes, China and India are still building new coal. China is already first world polluter and will be much more with new coal. There are no nuances in this.
albertopv··on Evidence of price-fixing in the oil industry?
China is building more new coal power plants than rest of the world combined.
albertopv··on Windows 10 reaches 70% market share as Windows 11 keeps declining
It's not fine. File explorer context menu, taskbar, it was a half baked OS when first released. It improved, but they shouldn't have release it as it was. Taskbar is still a mess, sometimes I have to reboot to get it working again. And still I can't move on the side.
albertopv··on PowerShell: The object-oriented shell you didn't know you needed
No deb package though
albertopv··on Greenhouse gas emissions might have already peaked
And that says nothing about China's emissions, if e.g. they continue to build coal power plants.
albertopv··on Apple's Regular Mac Base RAM Boosts Ended When Tim Cook Took Over
It was paging a lot I guess, any metrics about it?
albertopv··on Tesla recalls all cybertrucks for faulty accelerator pedals
