Ah sorry ..i just scrolled though the pics and didnt read the post in full. Thanks.
albert_e··on Help I accidentally a wigglegram
Could these use some frame interpolation and smoothing to make them less jerky? Or would that make them just a video clip then?

The first couple of examples were good but later examples were not so impressive. I think the later examples suffered from having too little of perspective change between frames and too much of subject movement -- which defeats the illusion of 3d from a "static" image.

Ideal one would have a left-to-right pan betweem the two clicks ..roughly matching the perspective shift between left eye and right eye ..while the subject stays static.

There were real hippie movements that mixed it with spiritual stuff that only appeals to a minority. Hence some labelling by association.

(I dont feel very motivated to work in blockchain -- because by association it carries elements of crypto hype that I find distasteful)

Once you separate the physical excercise and its benefits and allow people the space to pursue them for their benefits without necessarily subscribing to new spirituality -- it has found broader appeal.

(Few decades ago smoking was widely accepted socially even though it was no secret that it damages health. It took a few decades of mounting scientific evidence for society to shun smoking. Takes time for society and cultures to accept new ideas.)

Resistance to teaching in schools ... from who?

Schools in india have a lot of shortcomings when it comes to physical education, sports and other life skills training -- yoga / meditation alone does not get any special treatment either for or against.

There is a lot more our schools can do better -- including surely physical exercise and meditation/breathing exercises.

If anything there is too much emphasis on making international yoga day a grand spectacle one day each year -- which surely involves involuntary participation by schoolkids -- with no lasting benefits except PR.

Even the most vocal debates of today about school curriculum (see CBSE / NCERT in current affairs) dont have any arguments for or against extra curricular or non academic skills in school.

We broadly have a long way to go in making our education curricula well rounded. Would welcome more genuine elements of physical wellbeing and meditation included (without any burden of spitiruality mixed in -- which can create the resistance you might be referring to).

who mocked breathing techniques though ..

mindfulness and meditation have been seeing broad adoption - with apps like headspace etc also getting good traction

albert_e··on The adder at the heart of Intel's 8087 floating-point chip
Offtopic:

"Adder" is also a name for a snake.

Wonder if this was one of the inspirations for naming "Python" language too.

One of the first implementations of the interpreter must have tackled the "add" operation, so maybe the interpreter was just an adder in a prototype version.

I know that Monty Python is officially cited as the inspiration behind the name.

albert_e··on Consciousness likely not unique to earthlings, paper says
Do humans themselves have varying degrees of consciousness? How would we know / measure.

How does a level of consciousness that goes well above human baseline look like / work like / feel like?

Could such consciousness go to levels not merely slightly above human levels -- but like 10x or 100x (if there were a way to quantify).

What would that unlock?

Curious to know if there has been any vivid description of these possibilities by people much smarter than me ... that might help me appreciate the shape of such things :)

albert_e··on Show HN: Free animated icon library for Vue
I like the idea

Some examples need more work i think

"Database backup" has circular arrow spinning backwards

"Earth" shows lines being drawn -- instead i expected it to show an abstract spin of the globe

"Droplet" animates the outline draw. Expected a droplet that starts small and descends to become full size.

Same with "flame" -- should ideally be an animated flame licking up / whisps

"Copy" and "File Stack" -- the animation shown should ideally be reversed i think

"Git-branch" -- animation is wrong, doesn't show branching -- just drawing nodes and lines.

"Hand-grab" -- should start with open palm and then the grab.

Same with "hand-fist"

Many animations are simple zoom/enlarge - like those on right angle arrows are not serving a purpose

I also love this font -- it seems very readable and could be a good go-to in many places.

Having said that -- the speciifc image showing difference between this font and Roboto -- uses a lower contrast for Roboto -- which surely has an effect on its readability?

I wish they showed a more direct comparison without changing the contrast to introduce an extra element.

Need of the hour :

Browser personalization tools or extensions ...

A combination of User stylesheet (stylus) or User scripts (greasemonkey) -- superpowered by AI models that can let users target screen elements and shape webpage display and behavior without having to manually deal with precise DOM elements or CSS JS syntax

Best useful tweaks could become part of a curated list like uOrigin ad block lists

albert_e··on Why Ctrl+V won't paste images in Claude Code on WSL, with a fix
"Calude agents" cli lauched recently

It was very poor UX (from the demos i saw) -- and i tried it myself in Windows native command terminal and the rendering was horribly broken (windows is a second class OS for dev tools).

A light weight GUI with keyboard shortcuts that mimic CLI experience would have been far better without taking anything away from power users of the terminal.

albert_e··on Why Ctrl+V won't paste images in Claude Code on WSL, with a fix
Why are we emotionally tied to command line interfaces

Desktop apps are a second class citizen that do not get feature parity

Lot of actions on Claude Code seem much more suited for a thoughtfully designed GUI

Even the chat responses and links therein can benefit from judicious use of rich text and formatting and real hyperlinks to other parts of the UI or elsewhere

Favourite Skills can be toolbar buttons or menus if user so wishes.

albert_e··on I love my Bluetooth keyboard
Logitech!

Love-hate relationship with their products.

I have M570 trackball and it's perfect for me and i love it.

Only problem -- the switch on it fails in one year and starts doubleclicking like crazy.

(I am aware of DIY fixes to replace the switch that needs desoldering and soldering)

Accumulated six useless M570 trackballs in past six years. I hate that.

They are waiting for me to find enough time and motivation to attempt the DIY fix. Maybe after I retire in a few decades.

albert_e··on Show HN: Git-based front-end interface for Hugo
I have used hugo both dircetly and also via Netlify hosting.

Maintaining the side on a PC became tedious.

Netlify made life easier by emoving dependency on a local machine and offering an online CMS -- but the UX of editing is very irksome and not conducive to writing.

There were a few nagging bugs in the Netlify CMS editor -- like cursor always jumping to end of line if you are trying to edit in middle of a line. I finnaly fixed this bug by spending 30 mintes with Claude Code.

But yeah -- I have been meaning to build my own online CMS to allow frictionless editing and blog posting. Will either use this or take some inspiration from this for sure. Good work - looks nice!

albert_e··on The Best Windows is Linux
The video is very repetitive. The tweet shown in the video is essentialy what the 12 minute video says.

It has been years since i experimented with linux distros - i am a Windows user. If there is a noob guide to setting this up -- even as a VM on Ec2, I would like to give it a shot.

Is there such a guide? I was hoping the video has a accompanying "how to" but couldn't find one.

albert_e··on Codex is now in the ChatGPT mobile app
AI agents for devops and troubleshooting has been fairly powerful for me.

I have Claude Code with access to Azure environment (via CLI) where app components are deployed and also to the code base repo. I paste an error message or explain the symptom. CC works through various configuration checks and network tests etc across the Azure resource list and also the application logic and surfaces the root cause of the error precisely. Easily 1-2 days of effort if I had done all those myself (this is an inherited code base) -- would have had to learn a few of those skills along the way or may not have thought about some of the checks if i were on my own -- all done in about 45 mins with basic human-in-the-loop guidance.

Of course learning it the hard way would have meant deeper understanding and first-hand exprience for me. But there is no guarantee I wouldnt have given up mid way frustrated or other priorities prevented me from pursuing this in full.
