Now I want one!
The knowledge of the world is their property? Or is it the model weights? Or is it the natural resources they are subsuming by buying politicians and political power and leaving residents with high bills (while securing cheap energy costs for themselves). Perhaps it's the equipment they lease causing drastic price spikes in RAM and GPU's for everyday normal people.
> And if you don't like it raise a trillion dollars and make your own.
Not the only solution here mate.
I'm not sure how you confidently can say that every company is going to allow the people we can't verify have access?
We create all kinds of consortiums to manage complex decisions that shouldn't be owned by one entity.
Either way the solution again is not age gating, it's real meaningful data privacy laws that if enacted would have a huge effect on many companies today.
Then your 10% becomes problematic because you are either restricting or granting access based on invalid information. So in your world here we then need ways for people who were incorrectly gated to reach out and be corrected somehow.
> I also acknowledge that there is a reasonable debate to be had if the disadvantages to adults and businesses from imposing these rules are worth the harms prevented
Nobody on the "we need age verification" side wants a debate. They want to run face first in to dumb legislation giving governments and companies even more power to track every movement and know exactly who you are.
I'm not ok with that and don't know why anyone would be.
You want the few leading AI companies in the U.S. to work under the model where they (and potentially the U.S. gov't) gets to decide who gets access to what compute? If you are fine paying into that model, then good for you...just a matter of time before they cut you off and you have no ramifications.
They don't! The majority voted for the guy who wants to, admittedly (multiple times), be a dictator and is huge fan of other dictators. If he finds a way to stay for a 3rd term his most loyal followers along with all the republicans in Congress will be just fine with it.
When you have large transfers of wealth and the wealth gap grows significantly the only thing for rich people to do is buy up assets. Assets are fixed, so the share of assets owned by rich people are drastically increasing. This is inline with the # of houses owned by private investors and #'s of assets owned by other investors will reveal the same thing.
Maybe for companies (although I'd argue it's extremely bad there as well), but for Governments this is a terrible idea!
Remember that "probationary" doesn't mean new. I just learned this, but apparently when getting a promotion it puts you back into the "probationary" period at your new role. So people with 10+ years of service are being let go because they had recently been promoted.
I will say that Ford has drastically improved in the last few years (I own a fairly new Explorer ST) but much of what they've done you can clearly see is copying what Tesla has done. Even still it is miles away from what Tesla has done.
As far as ICE companies competing, most of what we've seen so far is fairly limited and there is good reason for this. Their whole profit model is built on the dealership model and serious investment into electric cars is going to, essentially, nullify that model of doing business. Moving to electric cars is not just an incremental changes for current large automobile companies but an entire paradigm shift in how they do business.
Either way, for scripting uses there are tools like babashka or lumo with sub second startup times.
You mention zoning laws in particular. Those were designed for specific reasons so what about them would you change? Surely you aren't suggesting just to get rid of them all?
