Intellij / Android Studio are nagging me to update gradle
Another thing, are tools used to compile still available? I tried to compile my BCS Android+native OpenCV project and failed quickly. Gradle removed some plugin for native code integration, another plugin was no longer maintained, it had internal check for gradle version and it said "I'm designed to work with gradle >= 1.x < 3.x" and just refused to run under 6.x ... I would have to fork that plugin, make it work with newer Gradle or find replacement. I was obviously too lazy and stopped working on that project before I even started.
I'm sure if (would) put more effort into making the build process reproducible, it would work effortlessly, but I didn't care at the point. I wrote it using beta release of OpenCV that's also no longer maintained, because there are better, faster official alternatives available.

This is 5 years old, today we are doing:
Updates happen in background automatically without user knowing and sometimes when autoupdated software is being used at the time, it crashes when new action is performed and all not saved user data is lost.
Move fast, break things!
Our goal was to build lowest possible energy consumption GPS tracker with "live" feedback, 2h delay was acceptable not ideal, 30min was just ideal. It was close to 30min on good weather.
I remember it used Ardunio Uno with xbee or zigbee with mesh module on radio, whichever had lower power consumption. GPS module was checking for fix every 30minutes, transmitting the location to master nodes which were sending it to our server.
Master nodes were located on hills without trees with solar-powerbanks, so even if there was no sun it would keep the nodes running for 2 months, GPS nodes were in areas without even GSM signal, and even on hills 3G was not guaranteed.
GPS nodes had replaceable rechargeable batteries, had to be changed every 3.5months. We didn't care about speed transmission.
We had budget of max. £15000 (including hardware, software and any legal fees and SIM card maintenance) for around 350 devices.
I'm taking bets.
What if management wants to move away from web development and concentrate on satellite technologies like email and VPN?
Web browsing is much more than a browser now, it's outside of browser tracking, like Facebook and Google pinging your ip address. It's hiding your email from spammers and email traders. Sharing links outside of browser and being able to read them offline. Controlling browser habits with voice.
Mozilla offers paid service that do such things. It all works towards your second goal - respecting your privacy.
When we talk about CPU it's bad enough. Think that your program has an input and output streams where most of the app data goes through and I can attach debugger and listen on the data.
I would not be very happy about it and would still consider it backdoor.
