No, “an Apple Silicon version of this”.

I use BetterMouse with my MX Anywhere 3S and it does everything I need it to. It’s a few dollars but it has a trial and is available via Homebrew.

akerr··on Conversations are better with four people
Is it worth counting/considering the listener? Multiple people listening also leads to interesting things like pausing the podcast for a side conversation.

Incidentally, half my regularly listened to podcasts have three hosts or two plus guest.

akerr··on Blender 4.3
I really like the MX Anywhere 3S (with BetterMouse for macOS instead of Logi Options+ to configure gestures like middle click move to pan). It’s closer to a Magic Mouse in functionality/simplicity but more ergonomic and USB-C on the front.

akerr··on Covid-19 Intranasal Vaccine
There are other possibilities beyond the two you gave. For example, I read of an n=1 study where a doctor was self-administering nasal heparin and was yet to get sick.

You might have a genuine question but it was rude to frame it has an assumption or accusation. Furthermore your follow up is dismissive of the whole community. Please reflect on your behaviour and try to do better in future.

akerr··on Toasts are bad UX
The Homebrew nouns are one thing. It’s the verbs that trip me up: update/upgrade is different to everything else on the Mac but at least is familiar to me from Debian but then I mix up list, info, show etc.
akerr··on Rodney Brooks on limitations of generative AI
“Yes, it is debatable. Here are some arguments for and against the idea that more context leads to better decisions…”
akerr··on Rodney Brooks on limitations of generative AI
ChatGPT says, “Generally, yes, both large language models (LLMs) and humans can make better decisions with more context. … However, both LLMs and humans can also be overwhelmed by too much context if it’s not relevant or well-organized, so there is a balance to be struck.”

Philips Hue has local API access for this sort of thing. Works with non-Hue Zigbee accessories too.
akerr··on YouTube's next move might make it virtually impossible to block ads
If they inject video, I can skip ahead. If they lock playback for that time, I can skip ahead programmatically.
akerr··on Ask HN: Is iCloud a viable alternative to Dropbox? Any other alternatives?
I’ve had great experiences with iCloud Drive. Moved from Dropbox and Google Apps a few years ago. iCloud+ 2TB shared with family is quite cost-effective for our use. Mail with custom domain too. I tend to buy devices with base storage because Optimise Storage in Drive and Photos works seamlessly. To collaborate with others using Dropbox, I much prefer to use Panic’s Transmit than keep sync running (I no longer have the Dropbox app installed).

akerr··on Things software developers should learn about learning
Generally, these are things that teachers learn during their training. Everyone has an education and has an opinion of education yet it doesn’t mean understanding how learning happens. In my opinion, good teachers teach the how of learning too.
akerr··on What’s behind the Freud resurgence?
Societies have gone through waves of considering children. Proverbs 22:6 is a good example of how the Judeo-Christian worldview contrasted with those around, including regarding children: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
akerr··on USB inventor explains why the connector was not designed to be reversible (2019)
I would line up the barrel and then rotate while pushing in until it plugged in. I don’t remember bending any pins. The mark on the top helped until the tower form factor turned the motherboard sideways. Still do this for XLR and MIDI but they’re more robust.

akerr··on I used a Game Boy camera for Facetime video calls in iPadOS 17
Well, the Analogue people did the protocol conversion and made an off the shelf product that is impressive (and previously praised by the author). The additionally impressive step comes with the improved accessory support with iPadOS 17. Hurrah for dongles!
akerr··on I used a Game Boy camera for Facetime video calls in iPadOS 17
No, the writer rightly criticised the iPad’s accessory support and found some encouraging signs in a surprising place. Lighten up.
