What tools can do the opposite? I have a refurb Thinkpad X1 Carbon, running Deb 11 w/ i3, I use for creative writing (vim/markdown/pandoc). I'd like the battery to last as long as possible.
Not a doctor, but I think you may be experiencing a form of burnout. You should have a chat with your doctor about this, because it's not necessarily ever going to resolve in its own. You may possibly need to take an extended break from everything. For example, a friend who encountered a similar state only got resolution doing multi-month thru-hiking. I hope you feel better soon.
The post mentions using crontab for scheduling tasks. Recently, I needed to use systemd user account job scheduling. I found it pretty nice once I got the hang of it.
One thing that's interesting to me is the AI Apocalypse is dependent on substantially large scale ongoing chip production - in particular GPUs. Chip production supply chains look a little more shaky these days for both logistical and geopolitical reasons. So another possibility I've been considering is that AI development outstrips the world's ability to supply the necessary chips at some point in the future. It's not the highest probability outcome at this point, so I intuitively ballpark the chances of this outcome at 20% in the next 20y, but I haven't done any hard analysis.
Walking outside 2h a day, rain, ice, snow, or shine, with no device interaction except emergencies (even cameras), is a key component of my "pull rip cord" burnout recovery plan. The idea is to give the abstract thinking/creative parts of my brain a generous daily time slot to zone out.
I tend to organize my world by color so it would work for me. It would drive the rest of my family insane though, so I stick to topical organizing for books.
I've come to appreciate this B&H practice. It reminds me that I have to take breaks too. It hasn't affected my use of B&H much because their shipping is remarkably fast for my location in the US (well outside of NYC).
Assuming you're in the US - At the current dividend yield rate, save up about $350,000 in Vanguard VYM for $10k/year paid quarterly. If I recall correctly, if that's your only income and it's all dividends, you will pay minimal federal taxes (check with a tax pro though).
Definitely. I did an Applied Math undergrad degree one class at a time at night (US) from late 20s to late 30s. It was fun, hard, and gratifying. Also, I had zero student debt when I was done, which was really convenient.
Myself and other folks in my friend group are MAU in that we use FB about once a month, maybe once every two months. My IG use became the same after the recent feed changes. Using either platform now feels like work and I have enough work to do already.
My read of the email I got: Unencrypted files are safe for formats recognized by Amazon as "photos" or "videos". Everything else is "data" (maybe even raw photos?) and gets removed.
You know how sometimes you become aware that you need to breath and this completely messes up automatic breathing? Well, during the tail end of full WFH (we're hybrid now), I became acutely aware of what I did every day in the house in a way that became uncomfortable. There used to be five day gaps between two full home days. It made me think a little harder about sabbaticals, early retirement, etc.
